skeeterParticipantI’m not a hipster- but I want to be more like one. The indifference is really appealing to me.
I know there are a few hipsters near Easy Street Records. I’ll try to spend more time there. What other neighborhoods should I check out? Maybe Ballard or Capitol Hill?
May 3, 2013 at 5:41 pm #789419
PangolinPieParticipantDefinitely Georgetown. :)
May 3, 2013 at 6:59 pm #789420
RarelyEverParticipantLoretta’s in South Park. Hipster heaven.
May 3, 2013 at 7:01 pm #789421
datamuseParticipantI haven’t seen much indifference in Georgetown, PangolinPie. Hipster or otherwise.
May 3, 2013 at 7:16 pm #789422
GrinMemberBallard is like Mecca for hipsters….
May 3, 2013 at 7:38 pm #789423
PangolinPieParticipantMaybe not indifference – but it’s a hip place. I know it was a sarcastic post but I still love me some G-town.
May 3, 2013 at 7:46 pm #789424
skeeterParticipantMy post was only half sarcastic. I love people-watching. Hipsters are really fun to watch and I really do want to be a little more indifferent. I need to enjoy life and not worry about my 401k so much. Hipsters have mastered that art.
May 3, 2013 at 7:55 pm #789425
happywalkerParticipantWhat is your definition of a “hipster”
May 3, 2013 at 7:57 pm #789426
PangolinPieParticipantI hear that, skeeter. I love people-watching too. Life’s too short to worry about things we can’t control…put on some shorts and head over to Greenlake and half-nap in the sun for a while.
(Sure wish I weren’t at work.)
May 3, 2013 at 9:33 pm #789427
datamuseParticipantI dunno, skeeter, there’s an awful lot of irony among hipsters. Maybe I’ve been hanging out with too many postmodernists, but I could do with a little less irony these days. ;)
May 3, 2013 at 9:57 pm #789428
skeeterParticipantI hear ya datamuse, but I’m okay with the irony.
You might enjoy this article. Check out the comments, too.

smokeycretin9ParticipantBallard or any ironically cool dive bar.
May 3, 2013 at 10:51 pm #789430
datamuseParticipantWhat I’m learning from that article is that flannel and work boots are in again. Guess the 90s nostalgia wave has arrived.
May 4, 2013 at 4:55 am #789431
SonomaParticipantHipster hubs like Williamsburg have become a parody of themselves. Truly hip people don’t think of themselves as “hipsters.” I don’t see hipsters as people who don’t worry about their 401ks or just enjoying life’s little pleasures. That’s a fine philosophy, but hipsters tend to be poseurs.
May 4, 2013 at 6:14 am #789432
JanSParticipantSonoma…yes…if one needs to label oneself as a “hipster” one is not one, really…
May 4, 2013 at 3:36 pm #789433
happywalkerParticipantJanS my thought exactly…as per my post #8. You shouldn’t have to try so hard. Just be yourself, I think that’s what “real hipsters” do.
May 4, 2013 at 3:38 pm #789434
EdSaneParticipantFirst step, read infinite jest by david foster wallace (aka the hipster bible).

FilbertMemberLet’s see……
Going on the internet to smugly broadcast to the world how much you don’t care and that you’re NOT a hipster. Check.
Reminding us all that you’re not REALLY a douche, you’re just mocking people you consider yourself better than IRONICALLY. Check.
Completely Out-of-Touch Bourgeoisie Backhanded Compliment, as if they are sooo lucky to be carefree and not have your burden of worrying about your 401k. Check.
Congratulations, Skeeter! You’re a hipster and you didn’t even have to leave your home.
May 6, 2013 at 8:05 pm #789436
skeeterParticipantThanks Filbert. I agree with your first three “checks.” I particularly enjoyed check #2. But I’m not sure about your conclusion. I feel like I’ve still got a long way to go to become a hipster.
BTW – are hipsters allowed to go to Starbucks? Because I’d really miss those Frappuccinos.
May 9, 2013 at 7:06 pm #789437
DunnoParticipantWe pretty much hang at the Taco Time at 35th SW and Fauntleroy. Sometimes at the Admiral Jack in the Box!

JoBParticipanti suspect that having been born early enough to earnestly wish my mother had had me at 10.. so i too could have been a hipster…
that i don’t fully comprehend the current definition of the term ;->
if only i could have run away to San Francisco 10 years earlier ….
would hep cats have qualified by today’s definition?
i wish i was curious enough tonight to find out:)
May 10, 2013 at 2:20 pm #789439
miwsParticipantBut JoB, if you had run away to San Francisco ten years earlier, you would not have known to be sure to wear some flowers in your hair. ;-)

JoBParticipantmiws.. sure i would… being older didn’t stop me from getting disco fever either ;->
