hackerb9MemberDid anybody else receive spam claiming to be from the H&R Blocks in West Seattle, White Center, and Delridge Way? I’ve never done business with *any* H&R Block, but it seems very odd to me that the ones near where I grew up (I don’t live in West Seattle anymore) are sending me “unsolicited commercial e-mail” (which is the polite way of saying “spam”).
The spam said at the bottom that anyone mentioning it would get $20 off tax preparation, but when I called the White Center H&R Block, the guy I talked to hadn’t heard of any e-mail campaign, but said maybe the West Seattle branch would know. Unfortunately, they were closed when I called.
I’m wondering if the West Seattle H&R Blocks are being targeted by someone trying to smear their name through spam. I noticed the from address was “christopher Price”, lowercase ‘C’ Also the subject line left out the “R” in “H&R Block”. People make typos, but who misspells their *own* name and the name of the company they’re trying to promote? It doesn’t make sense.
And another mystery: how did they get my real e-mail address. I almost never get spam because I always give fake addresses to companies. (mailinator is good for privacy freaks like me). So somehow, somebody not only got my real e-mail address but figured out that I used to live in West Seattle. Could it be from my auto registration? (I knew I should have given the state of Washington a fake address… just kidding ;-) ).

jissyParticipanthackerb9 — it’s my understanding that Mr. Price owns all 3 of these locations and I believe uses the White Center office as his business location. Is odd though as you mention about the missing “R”, which would make me suspect spam rather than him really trying to market to emails he might glean from somewhere.
