I guess when you want to pay everyone and only take from a few thats what happens.

    Yeah.

And sadly, those few in the middle class, that are compensating for the rich that hide their money in foreign accounts, becoming even fewer…

Same ole arguement. You know, those blue states could pass income taxes on wealth over a certain dollar amount of income. Completely avoiding changes needed at the federal level but guess why they don’t? It’s because people don’t trust the government, democrat or republican doesn’t matter. It’s all about getting re-elected and you don’t get re-elected without money.

So, neither party is going to bite the hand that feeds them no matter how many rally’s, protests or fancy politicians you throw at the issue. Tax reform is a huge undertaking and I would argue no elected official is smart enough to tackle it by themselves.

Just to clear one misconception up. The rich individuals in the US sre taxed. Corporations can keep funds earned overseas in accounts overseas and not be taxed in the U.S. Individuals who earn and receive income in the US are taxed because it was paid to them here. So, there is no hiding going on, they are simply following the tax code.

“Nevermind, its actually blue states that have some of the largest unfunded liabilities on pensions. I guess when you want to pay everyone and only take from a few thats what happens.”

and blue states that still have living wage jobs to pay for them…

    Bostonman..

rich people are taxed doesn’t tell the whole story, does it?

rich people do not pay the same effective rate of taxes as their poorer employees.. do they?

and yes, both individuals and corporations can legally invest and make money overseas without paying US tax on their profits..

as long as that money is not brought back to the states…

It’s when you want to bring that money home to use it here that you incur taxes.

Thats right, but I didn’t say they couldn’t. I said they are taxed on income received in the US. If they turn around and invest in a foreign investment and that money doesn’t come back to the US then its not taxed.

I would argue that isn’t an issue with the investee though. Its an issue with the IRS tax code.

and who creates the US tax code?

and who lobbies the creators to get the best deal possible for themselves?

why do you think big corporations and dumping big big money into those corporate rights of speech ads?

they expect to get their money back

and if you back them.. they will

which leaves you and me holding the bag to fill the hole in the treasury that creates :(

    bostonman:

looks like we hit a nerve.

before you continue to call us blue-staters freeloaders and lazy socialist bums, you should probably take a look at where most of this country’s welfare goes.

LINDSTROM, Minn. — Ki Gulbranson owns a logo apparel shop, deals in jewelry on the side and referees youth soccer games. He makes about $39,000 a year and wants you to know that he does not need any help from the federal government.

He says that too many Americans lean on taxpayers rather than living within their means. He supports politicians who promise to cut government spending. In 2010, he printed T-shirts for the Tea Party campaign of a neighbor, Chip Cravaack, who ousted this region’s long-serving Democratic congressman.

Yet this year, as in each of the past three years, Mr. Gulbranson, 57, is counting on a payment of several thousand dollars from the federal government, a subsidy for working families called the earned-income tax credit. He has signed up his three school-age children to eat free breakfast and lunch at federal expense. And Medicare paid for his mother, 88, to have hip surgery twice.

ahh! the vaunted small business owner! a perfect example!

…a perfect example of how republicans have convinced poor people that everyone else are freeloaders, while they, thenselves are self-reliant.

a better example is how you, a self-reliant successful middle-classer, are trying to convince poor and working people here on the WSB forums that they’re freeloaders. kind of shameful, in my opinion.

and you know that we blue-staters are over 70% of the u.s population, right?

Actually Redblack I am not trying to convince you that you are anything. But, trying to convince me that the red states are freeloaders and the blue states aren’t is just going to be met with a shrug of the shoulders. Both states have people who rely on others. Red states live closer to the budget than blue states do with the exception of Nevada.

I am merely pointing out that the fed and to a lesser extend the states could adjust tax rates, change the tax code, close loopholes and do all these things you guys talk about. But, they don’t. It’s because in the end they aren’t here for you or me. They are here to get re-elected.

“and you know that we blue-staters are over 70% of the u.s population, right?”

Kind of a distortion of the truth isn’t it? I believe 70% of the population resides in blue states but I don’t believe everyone in the blue state is a democrat. If you forced republicans into one state and democrats into one state they would be about equal.

    kootch..

i don’t know how to burst your bubble..

but California, New York and Illnios all have high paying industries in their major cities.

This illusion you have that everyone is bailing from those states to move to the south??? is not so accurate.

    Bostonman…

you should maybe take a closer look at demographics…

those blue states are called blue states because more than half of their registered voters are democrats..

and.. the majority of those voters with some notable exceptions tend to live in the urban areas where the incomes tend to be larger.

believe what you want to believe…

but the facts don’t really back you up on this
