Are there any local tracks (like at schools) that are open to the public for walking?

Madison Middle School off Hinds and 46th SW Parking on Hines and entrance on Hinds. There are stairs also to run/climb.

I checked out the Hiawatha track on Sunday – definitely nice. Though I’m guessing that the people running with their dog on the track, and the people riding their bikes on it, probably shouldn’t have been doing so? The signs say no bikes/dogs on the field, but that doesn’t say if “field” includes the track. As a result, I didn’t say anything.

    Uh oh.

If it’s true that bikes aren’t allowed on the track, and if that’s been the law for like 50 years or so, then I’m gonna have to go on the lam.

I can remember riding my Sting-Ray bike, from Home in the Charlestown Water Tower/Belvedere neighborhood to Hiawatha, riding throughout the Park including the track, via the WS High concourse off of Hanford.

If I’m truly a scofflaw, let’s all keep this among ourselves, and not, like, put it out there on the internet or something… ;-)

Sue: I just remembered there is also a track at SW Sports complex (across from Sealth/Denny schools).

My understanding (from talking with people inside Hiawatha)is that it’s okay to walk your dog on the track, as long as you stay off the ball field. (Of course, you are expected to pick up after your dog and dispose of any doggy bags in the trash receptacles.)
