flipjackParticipantI have a stack of vintage Seattle newspapers documenting many historical events from 30’s 60’s 70’s. They are folded but in good condition..very interesting reads with photos and such of old seattle.

JanSParticipantI was just looking at a website that features vintage newspapers from all over the country. The WS Herald had some things on it…from back in the 60’s, etc. Interesting to read the ads, the editorials from then…and to see what was going on in the ‘hood….

flipjackParticipantJanS….Thanks for writing, because I re-read my post now and the point of the whole thing is….
DOES ANYONE WANT THEM????? I would like to make a little money, but more just want them gone… They are fun to read…I just don’t have hours to engulf myself in them anymore.
—-I think I’ll go change my top post now—
oops I guess I can’t.

miwsParticipantflipjack,
Good luck in finding new homes for those newspapers. I’d love to take some off of your hands, but at am the point where I really need to avoid collecting more stuff.
Jan,
Could you please provide a URL for the vintage newspaper site?
Thanks!
Mike

JanSParticipantflipjack…hope you find a home for them…craigslist? If you are giving away things…freecycleseattle…I love that place. Also, I wonder if any of the local rags would be interested in vintage papers from the 30’s etc?
miws…I’ll explain this as it was explained to me…”okay, try this link– http://www.smalltownpapers.com.
If you click on the first WSH (West Seattle Herald) link, it takes you to the current newspaper site. You do not want that one.!!!
Click on the special collections archive button at the top of the home page instead.
Click browse archives button
Click state search-washington
(the archives (old papers) are the ones on the left hand side.)
When you click on the left hand side West Seattle Herald, you will get your choice of a limited amount of years.
The problem with this site is that you will find many newspapers that you will want to read,in many states. And your whole day will be gone.”
Make sense? Thank fellow commenter Gina for the link.
Hope that works for you :)

miwsParticipantThanks Jan!
I’m gonna minimize this window in case I have to pop back in for reference.
Wish me Luck!

WSBKeymasterTrivia point, the people behind smalltownpapers.com are based here in West Seattle, south of The Junction!
Speaking of old papers, we were just going through some shelves here in the utility room near WSB Nerve Central Desk-By-The-Washer-Dryer, trying to clear space for business-related stuff now that we’re working from home, and I found my stack of newspapers from the Kurt Cobain death and aftermath. Haven’t saved that many clippings about any one news event before or since.

flipjackParticipantheck maybe smalltown papers will want them.
I already tried selling them on craigslist…no takers. It’s pretty fascinating stuff: coverage of The first lunar landing, world war 2, vietnam, kennedy assn.,
Seattle Earthquake in 65, I think..
just interesting to read the journalistic style and see that blatant propaganda hasn’t really changed much over the years.
