    I also do not get the connection…are we randomly selecting people for the slaughter here? I thought it was decided by their words…

    …yeah, I don’t get it either.

    (The forum does kind of remind me of Usenet, back when Usenet was worth bothering with. That’s both a compliment and a criticism.)

    i like you a lot and i hate that story…

    there is no ritual sacrifice here…

    we get to throw stones back…

    but i can see the reference to blood sports and pack mentality…

    which seem to be the way some people play at differences of opinion…

    even then.. we don’t all go along when it happens…

    but thanks for making me think.. i think.

    I was in a high school one-act play based on this story. It was horrible then too (and that was many many years ago).

    I read THE LOTTERY in a college English Lit class. I preferred THE RUINED MAID.
