Last night a winged termite flew into my house. I never think of Seattle as a host for termites so I was a little shocked. I live in the Seaview Neighborhood and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar encounter. Is this common for the area?
Briefly mentioned a few months ago at: http://tinyurl.com/6n8yl6 My personal experience with subterranean termites is here. I am also in Seaview.
If you have tree stumps in your yard it’s a sure bet that termites are feasting on them. They even destroyed a couple of railroad ties that were used as a retaining wall.
This is a remarkably clear (and alarming) brochure about our local termites. The large, 1″-size termites I usually notice are Pacific Dampwood Termites. The Subterranean Termites are very small, less than 1/2″. They require different remedies.
