Last month I posted here to see if anyone had found my front license plate, 294WMI, missing from my car parked in Seaview neighborhood.

Well, early this month I got a parking ticket penalty postcard in the mail. Since I never got the original ticket, I called about it. They ended up knocking off the penalty portion but said I had to that day or the penalty would go back on. Since the car described sounded like mine, I paid. I did some digging afterwards and found that the car had been parked in front of Uwajimaya in Chinatown while I was at work in Redmond. After more digging, I got someone in records to eventually email me pictures of the car. Turns out, it is NOT my car, as I suspected, but is the same model and color. I have since filed a police report on the stolen front plate and will be contesting the ticket.

Lesson learned #1: immediately go to police station and file stolen plate report (must be done in person). I honestly had tried to talk to a police officer about this but never could find the WS precinct open, nor anything online regarding how to deal with this. Evenetually went to Capital Hill where the Officer that I spoke with said that plates are often stolen and put on similar cars for unlawful purposes. weird that they took the ones without tabs and then put them on the rear of a similar car – and looks like they made fake tabs.

Lesson Learned #2: get plates replaced ASAP. After checking with the licensing place on California ave, I learned that it is a $300 fine to drive around without a front plate. new plates=$33

Salt-in-the-wound……the car in the picture with my plate on it is nicer than mine:(

B: my husband had the tabs stolen off his truck recently (we actually don’t know when, an employee of his noticed it), took the whole stack of year #’s (guess they were in a hurry and would separate 2012 off later). And yep, he had to pay again for new ones. Really eats into the wallet!!!
