mommymParticipantHi Clarasmom – I am Mindi the owner of a small in-home daycare over on Fauntleroy. Our daycare is called The Munchkin Junction daycare and our very outdated website is: http://www.munchkinjunction.com
Our daycare is run by 2 moms and each and every day we feel privileged to have the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a child, to join in their laughter, and to be included in their games. This is how we have chosen to spend our days. Being mom’s we both understand how difficult it must be to leave your child in someone else’s care. Because of this, we can appreciate the trust you must put in us on a daily basis. We view our chosen profession as a career, not as just a job and we love what we do.
We take children over the age of 18 months and often can take part time schedules.
Feel free to drop us a note and good luck in your search !

pattileaParticipantI have a question for mypatience, are you licensed? and why does a public health nurse come once a month, that seems odd?
March 12, 2012 at 4:57 pm #751069
mypatience1978ParticipantHi, I am not licensed at this time. The public health nurse is one of my references. She would come to the daycare center where I previously worked once a month to check on the infants in the infant room to make sure they were healthy, thriving and to offer support and advice to the parents.

mypatience1978ParticipantI had not intended to quit my job at the daycare center where I was working. I absolutely loved working in the infant room. When my youngest started attending preschool there was a lot of conflict with my work schedule and her transportation. From Sept. to Dec. it was very stressful at work for my self and my coworkers. My boss did the best she could to help with scheduling but is was all around just not a good situation. It was in the best interest of my family that I be at home to reduce the stress of the bus scheduling. My passion and my heart belong to providing care for children. I have had several parents at the daycare center state that they wish I had my own daycare center so that I could stay with their children past the infant room. I do intend on becoming licensed and is something I am looking towards right now. I am the type of parent that was never able to bring myself to leave my children to be cared for by other people or a daycare center unless I worked there. I completely understand how scary and stressful it is to put trust in others to provide care for your children while you are away. For this reason I am highly recommended by many people because of the relationship I build with the parents and their children. I am just letting parents out their know that I am available and I still want to continue to do what I love.

pattileaParticipantChildcare resources is a great place to find licensed childcare. If you are seeking childcare you should check out Dateline NBC Chris Hansen it aired on Friday March 2nd. You need to know who is watching your children. The DEL (department of early learning) licenses child care providers in the State of WA. It is illegal to operate a childcare with out a license. You can not get insurance to cover injuries or even death of a child if you are not licensed. Being licensed does not mean child care homes or center are perfect, parents still need to do their own research. If you are caring for children with out a license you are a lawsuit waiting to happen!

Ms. SparklesParticipantDepending on when you need care, my daughter will be leaving Organic Sprouts (http://www.organicsproutspreschool.com/aboutus.htm) for Kindergarten in August. I think she’s full until then, but I’m not certain.
Claudia Haynes is the owner and she is wonderful with kids. She is licensed and located on 106th just west of 35th Ave

clarasmomdotcomMemberThank you Ms. Sparkles! I actually need care starting in August. Will look into it, thanks.

MrsLMemberIf you call the Child Care Resource Center Referral Service (http://www.childcare.org/families/new-subscribers.asp) they can send you for free a print out of all licensed childcare providers (in-home and larger daycares) around your home. You can also pay for that same service if you want to do that online but the folks I spoke to were very helpful. That’s what I did when looking for daycare options for my daughter. From what I remember there are many licensed in-home daycares in West Seattle.

kayoParticipantIf your work provides an EAP (employee assistance program), they can also help with daycare searches. Childcare Resources is a great place to start though. Good luck.
