MaryTMemberHi, folks — a friend sent me this, and I didn’t believe it, but it is true! As a special 9/9/09 promotion, restaurant.com is letting you take 90 percent off your total at checkout if you enter the code NINETY.
I just purchased the maximum amount allowed of gift certificates from Mission, one of our faves!! Several other West Seattle and White Center restaurants offer discounts on there too — so basically you’re getting 90 percent off an already hefty discount (you would ordinarily buy at $75 certificate from restaurant.com for $30, but with 90 percent off you only pay 3 bucks!)
Get on this now! Some of the quantities will expire if enough people buy them. There are also restaurants all over Washington participating!
Enjoy!

miwsParticipantI heard about that on KOMO News as well. Great deal!
Just remember folks, please be sure to tip your Server based on what the bill would be *without* the discount!

CMPParticipantThanks for the heads up Mary! I just ordered a bunch and it cost $5. Loads of restrictions but I guess this will be my cheap treat to whoever wants to dine with me at Mission, Royal Indian or Kokoras. Yum!

MaryTMemberActually, Mike, the terms of the certificates include an 18% gratuity of the original — so you’re covered!

SueParticipantThanks so much for posting this! I just got a bunch for Royal India and Cafe Revo.
I’m wondering though, is it the restaurant who is taking the hit for such a discount? I just got $200 worth of gift certificates for $8, and I hope that I’m not ultimately hurting local businesses in the name of discounts.

miwsParticipantOh, cool, Mary!
Even with a simple two-for-one, or 1/2 off a second meal type of offer, I worry that the servers may often get tipped based on the discounted total of the check. But, with the 90% off, I was afraid some customers would end up tipping them next to nothing.

swimcatMemberI often wonder who eats the cost for these discounted gift certificates too. There are so many restrictions while using them though- but they are still a great deal. I can’t wait to go to the Mission!

rockergirlMemberWoohoo! I got a few last night too. Mission, Reveo and Ztejas (in Bellevue where I work so I can go there one night for dinner after work) – three places I have not been to and look forward to trying out soon. Thanks for the hot tip.

SueParticipantI was reading some old forums online and someone said that the terms of a restaurant participating is that they will not be reimbursed the cost of the gift certificate – that it is in exchange for the national exposure of the restaurant on their site.
If it’s true, I’ll admit that makes me feel bad about using them now, especially for a place like Royal India which is usually empty and I wonder how they’re still in business.
However, for those interested, I heard the code was actually good for 99 hours, and is valid until sometime on 9/13 if you want to order some/more.

WSU03MemberHas anyone tried using their gift certificates yet? One of my co-workers purchased one for a restaurant in Magnolia and was told this weekend that it was not valid and that Restaurant.com used their info without their permission. Basically they did not have a signed agreement with Restaurant.com to issue these GC. It got me wondering if this is all a scam or if some restaurants are not accepting them. We bought a few to WS restaurants and are now not sure if they are valid or not.I would love to hear other peoples experience with these…

CMPParticipantI used one at Mission over the weekend. It certainly didn’t end up being that great of a deal in the long run. An 18% gratuity is automatically added to the full amount of the bill before the $25 was deducted. We had three entrees and I think three margaritas between us and the bill was about $50. Our waiter gave us no problems with it though and this is the first time I’ve ever used one of these.

hopeyParticipantI can vouch for having successfully used certificates at: Mission, Cafe Revo, Kokouros, Alki Fish House (the one on Seacrest pier), and Royal India. Adding the gratuity varies by restaurant. Sorry I don’t remember which ones did and did not. Be sure to look to see if it was added to your bill or not.
As far as the restaurant in Magnolia, I’m inclined to say it’s a restaurant owner who decided they were unhappy with the program and did not want to honor the certificates anymore. I would have found a phone number for Restaurants.com and called them on the spot, if possible. If not, I would have definitely emailed them as soon as I got home to complain.

WSU03MemberYes, my friend did call and complained to Restaurants.com and got a credit to their account. They are going to call the other places they got GC for and verify that they can be used. I’m glad to hear that this isn’t something that seems to be happening across the board. Thanks for your feedback.
