ErikParticipantYeah, I’m single and can be quite introverted. But I’ve gotten tired of always staying at home and proving to myself how domesticated I am and finally walked the whole 3 blocks to Cactus a couple weeks ago for the first time. Sitting at the bar and eating/drinking was fine. As usual no one sat next to me (just like the bus), till the end when a lady and her bf had to.
Newsie, I think you and I suffer from the beautiful person syndrome (partially joking). Don’t hate us cause we’re beautiful…lol.
June 3, 2008 at 10:03 pm #625985
AnonymousInactiveErik – Lol! Okay… I’ll go with that!
June 3, 2008 at 10:25 pm #625986
AnonymousInactiveErik, I haven’t met you yet, but I can vouch for NR being beautiful. I’m sure you’re right, that everyone is just too intimidated. :)

RSMemberWe just moved here last summer and don’t really know anyone either. So I’m definitely up for a BPP night if one happens!! I’m a liberal democrat too, JenV, but I can totally play nice with everyone.

JiggersMemberIts really not a restaurant, but if you like being an unsocialite,Verite coffee I notice always has people in there with their faced buried in their laptop or reading a book.
June 3, 2008 at 11:03 pm #625989
JenVMemberwell lets do it then. this saturday is out for me (tickets to Anthony Bourdain!!) but that is the only “out” day for me. I promise to try to play nice with everyone too…
June 3, 2008 at 11:13 pm #625990
AnonymousInactiveJT – That was very sweet! However, I WISH that was the problem! Lol.
JenV – Any day, pretty much, works for me. I would just need a little advanced notice. I could do weekend or weekday.
And, how about no politics discussed? Or, would that not be any fun?
June 3, 2008 at 11:17 pm #625991
JenVMemberhellz YES on the “no politics” rule. I hate talking about politics, actually. Let’s talk books, music, tv, movies- anything but politics. I get enough of that crammed in my head all day long!
June 3, 2008 at 11:19 pm #625992
JenVMemberPolitics…poly-tic…as you know, from the Ancient Greek word poly, meaning many, and tic, meaning bloodsucking vermin….

JiggersMemberElgrego, I sympathize with you and you may have a strong ethnic background(seeing your screename) like I do that’s not all white. I’ve been living here for 12 years for who knows why and know that it’s very hard to make friends out here, especially if you have darker skin than the average normal white guy. I have no exceptional real friends here like back home, but only know aquaintences. Seattleites are a weird group of people who like to say we are “nice” but its like this “I’ll give you my number, but please don’t call me anytime soon to have coffee” Its a cold shoulder, but you’ll get used to to it. More ethnic folks have a harder time mixing in because that’s the way it is out here with the whitie’s. I frankly couldn’t give a crap, but I’ve never needed to put on a second face to be accepted into a social group. Remember, life’s to short to worry about people if they like you or hate you. I have other things to worry about than if you like me or not. Just be yourself and go with the flow. And don’t sugarcoat the way you feel or things they you want to say, or listen to how others want you to think out here, its all BS. You have your own mind and thoughts. Be yourself.
June 3, 2008 at 11:30 pm #625994
AnonymousInactiveJiggers – That is exactly what I have experienced. The whole, “Here’s my number, but don’t call anytime soon” thing.
Of course, I have met some REALLY great new friends just recently that I have found to be refreshingly genuine.
But, I’m white (completely) so I don’t necessarily think it is a “race” issue. I think it may just be (especially here in WS) such a tight knit community, that people are either not used to meeting new people, or uncomfortable with it.

beachdrivegirlParticipantHey NR dont talk about me like that when you know you I will read your posts…i dont know about everyone else but I am just really honestly busy with work and planning a wedding etc..but I am always up for a happy hour so if you all tell me when and wehre to be i will be there as long as it is just not this Saturday b/c I am going to Yakima for the wknd….
June 3, 2008 at 11:38 pm #625996
AnonymousInactiveBDG – I really, really was not referring to you!! I promise. I understand that you have been busy. Please don’t think that was aimed at you in any way!
Maybe next week (during week) or next weekend would work best for everyone?
June 3, 2008 at 11:52 pm #625997
RSMemberNext week works best for me, pretty much any night of the week. Next weekend is the Brewers’ festival and the Georgetown music festival, so I’ll be hanging out in other ‘hoods. :)

elgregoMemberJiggers – I’m pretty white, being German/Swedish. Don’t let the name fool you.
Out of curiosity, what are everyone’s ages? I’m turning 30 in a couple months.
This weekend is bad for me (Navy Reserve), and I work the swing shift (330-1030pm) on weekdays.

JenVMembernext Saturday should work, I think, for us. where should we go? I think someplace where we can actually all talk and interact would be great. BPP would be great for that, and they have always been so welcoming to the WSB-ers. if we get there early, we can secure some seats, even.
oh yeah- 34.
oh yeah, and while we’re on the topic- this thread got me all thirsty for happy hour, so I stopped at Shadowland on the way home and had a beer. it was nice, and quiet, and I read the paper. I didn’t speak to anyone but the bartender and hid in the corner, but it’s a nice place to sit by yourself, anyway.
June 4, 2008 at 1:30 am #626006
AnonymousInactiveThat’s cool about Shadowland (I think I should give it another try).
Next Saturday at BPP works great for me. I say early too. Maybe around 3 or 4?
Anyone else? JT?
June 4, 2008 at 1:43 am #626007
AnonymousInactiveBecause I’m slow, next Saturday does not mean the one coming up, right? And of course it depends if my puppy sitter is available :)
June 4, 2008 at 2:07 am #626008
beachdrivegirlParticipantSo Saturday the 14th @ BPP? I am in. And JenV I will have to give Shadowland another try to…just might take me awhile …
