JiggersMemberThis thread got hijacked I see when the original topic was restaurant for singles. You guys could have started your own merry get together on another post yikes..

yikesMemberHi I’m Yikes and Jiggers was right, I was looking for a place to read my book! But I also want to meet people, being a 56 YO who works fulltime and is raising my 13 yo daughter (yep, got started late). So maybe you guys just sussed out what I’m really looking for and that is friends. I’m going to try to be there!
June 6, 2008 at 3:22 pm #626041
WSMomParticipantCould someone reiterate when where and what time?? I can’t find the post again….
June 6, 2008 at 4:04 pm #626042
charlabobParticipantWSMom, see #79 in this thread. (Thanks, NR — just looked it up myself and put it on one of my four calendars — whether we make it depends on which calendar I find that day.)
June 6, 2008 at 4:11 pm #626043
SueParticipantWSMom, here’s the new thread on the gathering: https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=1022&replies=22

AnonymousInactivecharla – You better be there!!! Should I send a reminder email the day of?
June 6, 2008 at 7:10 pm #626045
WSMomParticipantWe have two high school graduation parties to be at that day. Bummer. Be sure to do this again. It’d be nice to meet when the weather warms up so we can sit outside at BPP.
June 7, 2008 at 2:29 am #626046
TheHouseMemberMaybe if you guys actually posted this thread under the other title I would have checked it sooner.
What time tomorrow?
June 7, 2008 at 3:19 am #626047
beachdrivegirlParticipantSaturday the 14th 4ish
June 7, 2008 at 5:16 am #626048
JanSParticipantHouse..you can show up tomorrow anytime…but you may be drinking alone ;-)
Jiggers…there is a big bar at BPP…and lots of tables, and a couch or two…no restaurant, but we’ll bring you food…and you can sit off by yourself all you want…how’s that? ;-)
June 7, 2008 at 4:18 pm #626049
CMPParticipantDon’t want to sound like a b*tch here, but can we please get back on the topic of good restaurants to dine at solo?? I would really like to know where single people can tolerate getting a meal at by themselves since that’s always a dilemma for me. No more talk about happy hour at BPP…go to that thread for it!
June 7, 2008 at 4:31 pm #626050
JiggersMemberI tried to tell them to stay on topic myself.
June 7, 2008 at 4:41 pm #626051
charlabobParticipantCMP, I can relate — the X-Gym thread wandered into the weeds too — I got what I needed *and* sort of liked the weeds.
To get back to your original question — sounds like there are “people who want to eat alone for the sake of eating,” “people who want to eat alone and possibly meet others,” and (possibly) single people and coupled people who want to be independent. I fall into the latter half of the latter category.
I’ve eaten alone in most of the WS restaurants I enjoy, and I’ve never felt uncomfortable. Does the discomfort come from the way you’re treated? (Seated by the kitchen or the bathroom–ignored by the staff–rushed?) Or does it come from feeling uncomfortable. If it’s the former, PLEASE complain politely to the owner, manager, waiter — whoever. If it’s the latter, realize that no one is really paying as much attention to you as you think.
End of philosophy…charla’s list of places to eat alone, comfortably. NB, I carry a book or magazine and almost never read it, because I like watching people, thinking, talking to random strangers — and I hate the “book as cover” idea. This is the list of places I’ve actually been alone.
All the coffee places — from Sbux through C&P and Revolution
Angelina’s (because they’ll give me half plates of things like antipasto)
Beato
La Rustica (especially outdoor tables)
West 5
Cirque
Azuma Sushi
Bhudda Ruksa (sp)

JiggersMemberSeattle has a lot of lonley single people for obvious reasons.
June 7, 2008 at 8:35 pm #626053
JeannieParticipantI don’t use a book as a “cover.” I bring a book because I love to read (and eat!). Just be careful not to drip anything on your reading materials :)
June 7, 2008 at 8:50 pm #626054
JenVMemberyou can go to any restaurant by yourself. it just depends on your comfort level, not the restaurant itself.
jeannie- I discovered you cannot have an Elliot Bay burger with a book in the other hand…the hard way…:)
June 8, 2008 at 5:22 am #626055
celeste17ParticipantI will often go out to lunch or dinner by myself and bring a book. I love to read and if I can eat and read at the same time I get to do two things I love at once. I will often go to the Chelan Cafe, under the bridge, and sit at the counter or a small booth if its not to busy. I have also gone to Sunfish on Alki and have enjoyed a cup of chowder and my book.
