mellaw6565MemberAnybody watching C-Span’s coverage of the RNC right now? It’s a discussion/caucus group talking about “Women and the Republican Party”. In particular, they’re discussing how to bring over “Hillary” voting women and how Palin is going to bring more women in as well. Interesting…..
September 2, 2008 at 11:14 pm #636656
mellaw6565MemberThey just said that people will vote for who they like, not just single issues, and therefore Palin is a good choice.
They also said she will bring in “married women with children, independent women, and blue-collar Republican women”.
And most interesting, they just had a discussion where they believe that Obama “choked” when he didn’t choose Hillary because he didn’t have the guts to pick a woman.
Now do they really think people will buy that argument?

mellaw6565MemberOK – initial observations:
The music is ABYSSMAL!!! Church choir music and the final theme song of the Soprano’s
The demographics of the delegates are a stark difference to those of the Democratic convention in all respects.
The delegates are low key, look like they’ve just finished the early bird special at Country Buffet, and they ran out of Geritol!
The guy who is dressed up like Lincoln will probably give me nightmares.
The cowboy hats are annoying and smack of the “old boy” network.
And the co-chairman of the RNC called the VP nominee “Sarah Pawlenty” and said the word “naytional” instead of “national”.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..somebody wake me up when something interesting happens!
September 3, 2008 at 12:25 am #636658
AnonymousInactivemellaw – Probably not gonna happen. Even the Republican (or more conservative) news sources have predicted that the RNC will in no way match the DNC.
It would be silly to even try.
The Abe scares me too!

GenHillOneParticipantIt’s really painful to watch. I’m almost embarassed at the awkwardness of it all. A Christian singer from the Billy Graham tour, really??

JanSParticipantand if you get tired of the RNC, turn on CSpan2…a rally for Ron Paul…
September 3, 2008 at 1:20 am #636661
charlabobParticipantThere are 10,000 in Minneapolis at a counter-convention for Ron Paul. Currently, Bob Barr is polling (roughly) 8 percent as the Libertarian candidate.
The convention: Not Ready For Prime Time (which is only an hour each night) — George Bush. Prime Time: Lieberman and Fred Thompson (who apparently replaced Guiliani as “key note” speaker.

Was Bill Clinton the president of Sept. 11, 2001?

TrickParticipantI didn’t realize this was going to be so military driven….NOT.
Probably the best performance by Thompson since Law and Order episode #345.
September 3, 2008 at 2:53 am #636664
GenHillOneParticipantThat’s funny, Trick – my thought was “I liked his writers on L and O better!” ;)
September 3, 2008 at 3:31 am #636665
TheHouseMemberThompson did a great job of building McCains “character”.
I’m sorry some of you are finding the RNC boring. We should have warned you that they would be using words over the 3rd grade level.

GenHillOneParticipantNice effort, House, but like water off a duck.
September 3, 2008 at 3:44 am #636667
TrickParticipantUsing words over a 3rd grade level?
Did you not see GWB via satellite?
Then I guess your analysis is flawed.
September 3, 2008 at 3:45 am #636668
JoBParticipantThis is the republican convention….
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hksHDv1i55R2qYI6dkmMm10uxZ0AD92UQ8TG0
they’ve taken to arresting reporters with credentials around their necks for trying to report the news…
one of whom was a reporter for a news organization with a heavily republican bias…
wrong place .. wrong time.. no respect for a reporter’s credentials… and lest you write this off as just twin cities police out of control.. an unidentified man wearing no credentials yanked the RNC press passes from the necks of at least two reporters in full view of their police escorts.
when asked who that was … they were told it was probably secret service.
is this what we pay our secret service for? this is a clear abuse of power…
It all has a good ending though. i suspect the lawsuits that come of this will give Democracy Now operating money for quite a while…
one of the reporters had to seek medical care after she was released.
September 3, 2008 at 3:47 am #636669
charlabobParticipantNo, not even a nice effort.
From the party that accuses candidates of being elitist if they use words that make people think? From the party that found yet another person who can’t pronounce “nucular.” Wait, I apologize — she does know how to pronounce nucular — she just has a problem with “nuclear.” But you’re right — it’s a biiiigggg (and obviously incomprehensible) word.
September 3, 2008 at 3:56 am #636670
CaitParticipantOh no they did NOT play Journey! That song is sacred, never to be used for any political purpose no matter how inspirational. *sigh*
September 3, 2008 at 4:07 am #636671
JoBParticipantno wonder they don’t want press coverage:)
September 3, 2008 at 4:33 am #636672
CaitParticipantSpeaking of coverage, Chris Matthew’s toupee is lookin’ a hot mess tonight on MSNBC. Worth a look for the comic relief.

mellaw6565MemberFirst of all, don’t take House’s bait. His insulting comments are, IMO, what trolls due to stir things up. He’ll be my first victim on the “ignore this person” button.
I missed parts of the RNC tonite, but the parts that I saw were kind of depressing. Lots of military talk, videos with war scenes/photos, and lots of tributes to dead Republicans.
I want to know —- “Where’s the beef”? I haven’t heard them talk at all about the Repub. plan for America. During the DNC, many of the speakers talked about issues in America and their philosophy for changing things. Yet, I haven’t heard anything about the future from the speakers at the RNC – just a lot of flag waving reminiscences. Did I miss something?
Also, was it just me or did Fred Thompson sound and act like he had been drinking? I mean I’ve heard him speak before and seen him act, but I thought his speech was slurred and he seemed a little befuddled.
I hope to hear more substance tomorrow. Oh wait, Palin’s speaking tomorrow – never mind! LOL
September 3, 2008 at 8:53 am #636674
JanSParticipantI know this is a snarky comment, so all you nice Republicans out there, don’t be jumpin’ down my throat…but didn’t it seem like a lot of (esp. female) delegates in the audience looked like they’d been sucking lemons?
Yep…snarky…please forgive me, oh, Rep. gods – lol…
September 3, 2008 at 9:51 am #636675
acemotelParticipantMaybe we can hear one more time about McCain’s heroism forty years ago. I’ll be watching anxiously to see if anyone can provide a convincing argument how it would benefit America to elect someone with a cold war mentality whose most significant life event took place more than a generation ago. Maybe someone will explain how a vice president with no awareness of China, Europe, and the Middle East can integrate the United States in the global economy. Lots to look forward to!
September 3, 2008 at 4:05 pm #636676
JoBParticipantI don’t know why this story doesn’t seem to have legs… even here.
i am appalled..
apparently asking questions about two of her staff who were arrested pending felony riot charges is obstructing justice.
September 3, 2008 at 6:01 pm #636677
CPMemberYet another snarky comment, but I didn’t see a whole lot of diversity at all in that crowd.
September 3, 2008 at 9:24 pm #636678
mellaw6565MemberIt’s almost showtime! Who’s got the popcorn?
September 3, 2008 at 9:25 pm #636679
mellaw6565MemberActually, why doesn’t Hooters do a debate night? Hell, they do football!
