The convection part of our microwave oven has stopped working — it basically starts and then turns off. Typically, we buy another but that seems extravagant and non-green; anyone have a recommendation for someone who can fix the problem (or, better yet, anyone know what might be wrong?) I thank you and the island of broken appliances thanks you.

Couple of online resources I use for DIY. I’m sure there are others as well. Sounds like your fan could be bad or the control panel maybe.

Scott Wiseman is a local West Seattleite that has been in the biz for a long while. He has worked on our 1940’s vintage stove, a washer and a fridge.

Give him a call, you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you, JT, for the DIY ideas and WSG for reminding me of Wiseman’s. In fact, if I bought something new, that’s where I’d go — just want to break that habit.

Charlabob, just to be clear, there are two Wiseman brothers. One owns the appliance store up by the Admiral junction. The other is the appliance repair man I recommended. I’ve never done business with the former, but have with the latter.

Thanks for the clarification, WSG — I’m going to TRY DIY and then call him :-) Oops, sounds like I’ve given up, doesn’t it.

Scott Wiseman is a great resource. If for some reason your oven/microwave is toast, ask him which models he recommends because he repairs all of them–who better to ask? He was quite honest with me when I asked his opinion of a brand the other Wiseman’s tout.

That being said, I have purchased my fridge, dishwasher and washer/dryer from Wiseman’s. Some of the in-store sales-folk could use a lesson in customer service, but they have matched/bettered Home Despot’s prices, and offer free delivery. I’d rather keep my dollars in West Seattle than patronize chain stores. I still mourn the disappearance of Eagle…

Scott Wiseman doesn’t repair microwaves anymore. :-( Any other ideas? I’m off to read the DIY pages.

Ohhh Eagle, I too miss thee. *frown*

I have always had pretty good luck with Sears.
