I remember a couple times in my youth our dad placing an old piece of furniture in the middle of the garage and ‘helping’ us kids completely disassemble it.

We would burn the wood frame, he saved all the metal springs and such for any future needs, sometimes he’s save the outer fabric too however most times it would be folded up and bound with twine to discard along with most (if not all) of the padding/filler material.

I’m wondering if there is any way the folks at Nicklesville could incorporate this into their lives. Obviously they need wood to burn, with the ingenuity to be found there they could probably find a way to put a lot of the materials to use thus cutting down on how much ends up in the land-fill.

Realizing there are a lot of people out there who are a lot smarter than I am, I freely give this idea to anyone to run with if you see a positive and viable outcome.

However should many bullet holes be shot into my thinking, oh well, it’s not like I can stop the grey-matter from doing its thing.

    Good day all…

Dang, I love it when people think of Nickelsville, for their no longer needed stuff! (Seriously!)

sbre, right off the top of my head, the only concerns about using the wooden frame as firewood, wood….er….would be if there’s any glue on it, that might release toxins into the air.

I dunno if perhaps the heavier duty Elmer’s type glue had been used in the original construction, that might be non-toxic. I suppose someone with a Skilsaw could chop off the ends that were joints. Or, even a table saw might work, on pieces that aren’t too unwieldy.

My other concern, would be making sure all of the fabric was completely stripped off, again, in the interest of making sure that no toxins are released.

Thirdly, my concern with those that might want to shoot your idea down, (which I’m not trying to do) is that if they’d be using lead bullets……….

Perhaps a local upholstry shop would want to take on the tear down task as a centralized drop off location?

Then, community reps can go to one place to provide the actions and skills needed to separate what is usable or not?

Would require some available space (outdoor) and basic tools…dumpster.

    Bump.

With hopes of getting more input.
