beachdrivegirlParticipantSo, not really West Seattle based, but I thought I would pass along a friendly reminder to my fellow neighbors. Please when moving anything in the flatbed of a truck remember to secure it tightly and safely!! Two days in a row while driving down I5 I have had items fly off trucks in front of me. Two days ago it was a mattress and yesterday it was a huge ladder! I swear to god my heart stopped b/c i thought i was going to die. So please, please, please secure your loads when moving items. Not only is it illegal but it is very dangerous!

flipjackParticipantHey WSB do you know where to report things like this?
I couldn’t find any info online about where to report illegal loads after the below experience:
I had a similar experience last week that PISSED me off. A big white sand and gravel truck going North on I-5 with big marble sized chunks of gravel flying out of the back. I got at least 5 dings on my windshield and 5 or 6 nicks in my paint down to the metal. I had to stop and pull over and let the mother *#&$’s pass. They took the Dearborn exit..I couldn’t get the license plate and only saw a Yellow logo on the door something sand and gravel.
I was extremely PO’d

inactiveMemberHey Flipjack & Beachdrivegirl –
Yikers – glad you guys are ok. Scariness!
I think that’s a good # folks might want to put in their Cell, so I looked it up. This was from a PI article published last April.
“to report littering or improperly secured loads, they should call the litter hot line at 866-548-8371 (866–LITTER1).”

flipjackParticipantYeah..not sure litter would quite cover it, more like reckless driving really…thanks for looking that up though..might be worth calling if it happens again.

JeraldParticipantI had a sheet of plywood fly off the truck in front of me recently, down by the 1st Ave. S bridge. I called 911, thinking someone should go after the truck as it had lots more junk ready to take wing. All they wanted to know was where the plywood had fallen and if it was clear of the road (it was).

GenHillOneParticipantJerald, next time remind them of Maria Federici’s lawsuit and see if they move more quickly…

wingmeMemberSo I’m driving southbound on the viaduct recently when a steel rake flies off a pick-up 2 cars ahead, which they managed to avoid by deftly swerving around. Me? I had no choice but to run it over (narrow lanes, cars on both sides} causing a blow-out, damn near killing me and a bunch of other people, and subsequently causing back-ups and assorted other mayhem until help arrived. I’m hoping someone in front of me turned ’em in.

star 55ParticipantTo report trucks without secured loads call 1.866.548.8371. It is helpful to have a license number and location. I believe the person will receive a letter from the State Patrol and will be looked for on the freeway.

beachdrivegirlParticipantwingme I feel your pain and am so sorry that you weren’t able to get around it.
I was very very lucky not to have been injured and luckily I dont think anyone else behind me was b/c I didnt hear about anything of the sort on the news.
