kayoParticipantThis probably should be posted as a Future Darwin award winner. When driving home from the junction today, we encountered 5 misguided young skateboarders skating down the steep hill of sw Genessee (by the golf course) on their way to the skate park. They looked to be young high schoolers or middle schoolers with no adult supervision. I know this is a fun hill to sled down when the street is closed off, but skating down this when it is open to traffic is just pain dumb. There are blind spots in both directions, the road is narrow, the hill is very steep, this road is not an extension of the skate park! If you have kids going down to the skate park unsupervised please take note. I fear this will become a commonplace occurrence and then someone will get hurt or killed.

GenHillOneParticipantWe were JUST talking about this in the car a couple of days ago – “How long will it be before…?” My skater, more the inline variety, pointed out that it’s also a terrible surface with plenty of cracks, seams, and bumps that will send someone a$$ over teakettle in a heartbeat.

kootchmanMemberHope they were wearing helmets at least… head trauma tough to recover from. I went down hard on that hill with the old rat traps pedals and no helmet…. luckily it was lots of road rash.and lots of bruising….no more.. I passed that Darwin marker . Yea… It was foolish..and before helmets were the accepted default position…

kayoParticipantThere were no helmets in sight, but plenty of youthful arrogance and attitude, especially when cars started honking at them for causing a traffic jam. I was honking because I sincerely did not want anyone to get hurt and they were standing in the middle of the street at the top of the hill waiting to launch. People whip around the corner from Avalon to Genessee and they could easily get hit right there not mention what could happen on the way down. I use that hill many times a day. Hopefully, this was just a fluke.

365StairsParticipantStormin…from your last two posts related to skating topics…I get the impression you support the actions…which is fine for you…
When responding…perhaps take a moment to consider that the OP’s concerns and that in any case involving public areas used by…well…the public…there are laws to abide by and Safety consciousness issues…
We all were young and did stupid things…we didn’t listen…and some paid the price…we are still here thankfully to offer guidance as aged representatives to the less aged. Should YOU choose not to listen…good luck.
