grrParticipantOK. I get that you want your dog to freely walk while you’re out there, BUT GOOD LORD..if you’re going to cross in a crosswalk, AGAINST THE LIGHT, don’t drag your 10lb little dog with the leash out 10 freakin FEET behind you. I was so busy looking at YOU ignoring the signal that I didn’t see the BLACK dog in the rain that you were letting wander behind you. DAMN lucky I did see it at the last minute and nobody was in the other lane. PAY THE HELL ATTENTION to your dog. And ditch that lame ass leash. They should be banned anyway.

JoBParticipantgrr..
that lame ass leash is a life saver to people with limited mobility who choose to exercise their dogs in open fields or on trails and will not do so without controlling their pets…
but you are right.. there are too many people who ignore the flexi part of that leash and don’t teach their dogs to walk next to them in public.
the same leash that can extend to allow more exercise during a walk can also be shortened and locked to keep pets next to you when walking in public/

catladyMemberIt’s the pet owner’s fault for allowing that to happen. We have the flexi leash and always “tighten up” our pup whenever we approach people and streets – especially streets.

anonymeParticipantEither very few people know this, or they simply choose to ignore it like the leash law itself, but extendable leashes are prohibited within Seattle City limits. A standard leash no more than 6 ft. in length is required.

bsmommaParticipantIf they’re prohibited then how can the pet stores sell them?
June 24, 2011 at 10:16 pm #727592
KBearParticipantIt is not illegal to possess or sell retractable leashes in Seattle. But it is illegal to use a leash that is more than 6 feet long in public places.

grrParticipantdidn’t know that about the leash law!!! JoB..I agree, they’re a great asset in the situation you mentioned. As any dog trainer will tell you, you simply DO NOT have control of your dog if it’s on a long leash that far away from you. Lordy I hate them flexy things. I keep thinking how f’d up I’d be if I’d ran over that little dog :((( I really missed it by about a 2 second quick flip of the steering wheel, and the lady walking it was CLUELESS that I was even there. grr.
