Lastnight around the dinner hour, two young men came to our door asking about our home security system. They showed me their shirt logos which said they were from some “GE” company, and then one of them proceeded to ask me questions that led me to assume that they were trying to sell me a security system. The other was looking around the outside of our house. I asked them what they were selling. He said “I’m not selling anything,” and continued telling me about how someone could easily bypass our system, etc. I pressed him more aggressively: What do you want exactly? What are you here for? He got defensive and said “nothing” and they left. We called the police and reported them. Others in the neighborhood were also upset by this intrusion. If you see these guys, don’t deal with them and call police to report them immediately.

Even the legitimate security system sales guys scare me. Their tactic seems to be to plant fear of crime in your heart so you’ll buy their product and they’ll get a commission.

If they can’t scare with you statistics about crime, they scare you by acting like thugs themselves. They got so aggressive with me one year that I had to contact the ADT company and make a big stink about it. Since then, ADT has lightened up on me, but I’m still getting lots of sales calls from other companies.

Time for one of those “No Solicitors” signs, I think.

Aw shucks, I’m sure gonna miss the Mormons.

There were 2 guys that came to eat at Giannoni’s on this day that fit this discription to a T. While I don’t want to outright judge them, I did talk at length with them about what the deal was with the alarm stuff and they said that they install for free but then there’s a monthly fee – I told them that WSeattle didn’t like door-to-door and they said that they agreed. They were okay but the whole thing seemed a little shady.

Sounds like the guy who came to our door. He was angry that we wouldn’t open the door. We have a no solicitors sign and he said twice “i’m not selling anything”. He was incredibly rude. He kept ringing our doorbell and knocking on the door. We have a ill dog and I finally looked out the window to see what it was all about. He was not wearing anything to indicate who he worked for.
