    Job Description

    The role of the Preschool Teacher is to support and provide a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom and learning programs that are aligned with the mission and goals of Leaps and Bounds Sensory Preschool, as well as all relevant federal and state requirements and initiatives. Your job duties include managing and teaching the classroom of 10 students with a 1:5 ratio, facilitating a positive learning environment focusing on teaching the whole child utilizing conscious discipline, social-emotional development, process-based and skills for learning.

    To be successful as a Preschool Teacher at Leaps and Bounds Sensory Preschool, you should have a strong sense of ownership and responsibility in the classroom, be able to work with the team, understand and work with the individual needs of the students, remain calm under stress, and have strong time and classroom management skills. You should be patient, engaging, and have the ability to communicate exceptionally well.

    Preschool Teacher Responsibilities:

    • Support the Leaps and Bounds unique curriculum that highlights and remains consistent to the mission, values, and goals of the school.
    • Implement the curriculum in a way that is consistent and works with the unique needs of each student, teaching the whole child.
    • Day to day classroom and student management.
    • Update classroom decor, seasonal calendar, and maintain child portfolios.
    • Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play, learn, and express their uniqueness.
    • Model positive guidance and effective classroom management to maintain the safety, well-being and attention of all children.
    • Meet and report regularly to the Executive Director regarding program, student, and staff performance.
    • Cultivate partnerships and positive relationships with families, therapists, and staff to communicate and provide the best care and education for the students.
    • Develop and manage staff, including Assistant Teachers, to a build high performing team focused on quality service and education.

    Preschool Teacher Requirements:

    Education
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in early childhood education
    • Washington S.T.A.R.S. certified, or complete basic course within six months of being hired
    • A current and valid Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate OR at least 10 college credits (quarter system) in early childhood education preferred.
    Experience
    • Minimum of three(3) years working in an early childhood education setting with children ages 2.5 to 6 years old.
    • Prior experience working with children in a developmental or special needs program a plus.
    General Qualifications
    • Outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple situations effectively
    • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willing to complete within 2 months if hire)
    • Current and cleared TB test, MMR immunization, CPR, First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens within first 90 days of hiring.
    • Clean background check and good references.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, families, and community partners.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • High level of attention to detail, patience, problem solving, and empathy.
    • Manual dexterity and physical endurance with ability to assist children physically, and lift equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
