Every time there’s a windstorm, the garbage cans go flying down the alley. I keep wondering why my neighbors don’t grab some bungee cords and secure the cans to the fence or even the more stable recycling bins? Then I realized–they don’t KNOW their garbage cans are rolling around the alley because schmucks like me have already picked them up to get them out of the way.

maybe waste management should phase in square garbage cans.

or maybe VBD could make a zillion dollars selling the can arrester! â„¢

you could design a collar that prevents garbage cans from rolling around… and a GPS to track the lids if they blow away!

redblack–pure genius. I think re-branding bungee cords as “can arrester!” and marking them up 200% oughta do the trick–whaddaya think?

On my walks with the dogs I frequently retrieve cans and lids for my neighbors; its just a nice thing to do.

Last month I retrieved a can and lid from the middle of the street around the corner from my house. I snapped the lid down and put it up in my neighbor’s driveway assuming it was theirs. It was not and they placed it back on the parking strip where it sat for days waiting to be taken home. I walked by it numerous times and thought “If someone doesn’t take this soon, I will, its just like the pair I bought a couple of years ago at McLendons.” Still it sat there. And then the lightbulb came on. It was mine! I never noticed it missing from its familiar spot and it never occurred to me that it would blow around the corner and down the street some. I would need the GPS tracker on the can to cause the can to jump up and down as I approached so I would understand that it was mine all along!

Ah, the dulcet, clunky tones of garbage cans rolling down the alley and recycle bins falling over. I guess I know what I’ll be doing today seeing as I have to go somewhere later.

    before reading your post..

i had moved my garbage cans out closer to the alley so i wouldn’t have to make sure they reached curbside before pickup..

and to move the garden waste can away from the back gate..

it’s not so sweet in the wintertime without bundles of yard waste absorbing kitchen wastes…

that day i found my garbage can mid alley down by the neighbor’s house :(

i moved them back in next to the gate where they are protected… and although i have seen them wiggle since.. they haven’t gone walkabout…

    thanks for your reminder.

sorry i missed your reply last week.

yes, bungee cords. and a concrete block to bungee the cans to.

it’s the can arrester! now with fewer things!

just working out the marketing campaign…
