Ok, so everyone watches the news, reads about news, and hears about it from their neighbors. But do we sometimes miss the point?
Information overload it taking away peoples’ ability to see the forest through the trees.
Example:
Possibly millions of people got fooled by a hoax “child in a balloon story.” Considering the quite staggering hours of reporting done on this story, no one seems to notice a crucial detail. THE 6 Y.O. BOY IS ONLY 37 POUNDS.
The average weight for a six year old boy is 44 to 46 pounds. For an adult male thats like the difference between 170 and 134.
When reading the WSB we should make sure to read and post micro-information, but continue to be conscious of the macro picture.

WSBKeymasterAlways a good point. Kinda like an interview I just came back from, with a local businessperson in the heart of one of the most turbulent industries of the moment – the forthcoming story is part about him, part about the industry’s big picture. With a few side gems along the way!

KBearParticipantPerhaps Mom and Dad were so busy hatching reality TV schemes they forgot to feed him. Or maybe they had him on a special balloon aviation diet. Looks like they’re all in for a big dose of reality now. I feel really bad for the kids.

berthaParticipantBe careful reading the growth charts. 44 – 46 lbs is the 50th percentile for weight which means 50% of 6 year old boys are above that weight & 50% are below that. Seems he falls around the 10th percentile where my daughter has been all her life and she is healthy, growing & not underfed! Certainly they are poor parents at best but I doubt they starved him.

flowerpetalMemberGrowth charts lose some of their accuracy when racial factors are included. I believe that Falcon’s mother is Japanese (?). He is smaller; and you are right Bertha, is well below the 50th percentile, but still within normal range.
I too am saddened that parents would lead their children to understand that making false statements is OK.
