JenV – Are you telling us that you haven’t read “Dreams of My Father”? It’s in his book. He wrote it himself.

Nope, haven’t read it. Thanks for the clarification. Was I supposed to have read it? Good God! I better get right on that, or I might have to turn in my Democrat card!

Good to know he was doing EXACTLY what the president was doing…except didn’t have powerful connections to get him out of trouble, like Bushie did.

oh, and by the way….Sarah Palin has admitted to smoking pot. So there.

Tonya, NR – Here’s a question how is Sarah Palin going to do it? She has 5 children whom are in need of their mother, a child who is to become a mother herself, and also a husband. How is she going to be an involved mother if she is Veep? Do you not think she will have to neglect being a mother? There is no possible way she would be able to fullfill her role as mother and be available to McCain and the Republican party at any hour of the day. She will also have to travel extensively and for semi-long periods of time. Will she tote her kids around? Will she hire a multitude of nannies? As much as I am for the progression of women, this I feel is selfish on her part.

I saw that too, Jen V, made me laugh!

I read an article this past weekend that talked about one of Obamas biggest pieces of experience that gets constantly overlooked. Wondering what it is ???

He won the support of milliosn of voters and beat out Clinton for the nomination of the Democratic party. He was the underdog, the one that most when they heard his name said who, but he managed to go through debate after debate. And make speech after speech and he has wowed millions of Republicans, Independents and of course his party the Democrats. Now that says alot about experience and that is just one more reason why I am truely interested to see if Palin wows in America during her speech @ the RNC. The very speech I think will make an entire new thread tomorrow/tonight. :)

No, JenV, I don’t think this affects whether you can be Democrat or not (this is America, land of the free), but I would hope that you would be more informed on your candidate.

You’re right, Palin smoked pot too… you got me!

MissK – I think she can do it. I think she can be a good mother and be VP. Who are we to say what she can and cannot do. She’s obviously intelligent. If she thinks she can combine this job with motherhood, who are we to say otherwise. That’s a personally decision that only she can make. Obama is the father of 2 children, how will he manage? See how silly that argument can be?

BDG – You never know, McCain/Palin could very well get the vote of millions of people. We shall wait and see.

I don’t think it’s so obvious that she’s intelligent. I haven’t seen any evidence of that yet. It’s obvious she’s fertile, yes.

    To your response NR,

    Why do I support Barack?

I like the fact he’s pro-choice,not homophobic, doesn’t intertwine his religion to the forefront of his policies, has maintained dignity throughout his campaign when smeared by the brutal christian swift boaters and Republican spin machine (Even you NR still question his associations with terrorists), has raised more money by single donors in history, ran one of the best campaigns in history that both sides have agreed upon, was against the war in Iraq but supported the war in Afghanistan, proposed pulling the troops out when he was called a “defeatist” but now seems to be a popular subject with a different tag by your party.

I think he’s a visionary that doesn’t rest on the past (Did we see a video montage of Kennedy or Clinton?…umm NOPE), but talks about the future, he is extremely bright (educated) and articulate, love how natural his family is around him, is upfront and honest with subjects that may not be popular, spoke of “change and hope” before the McCain camp did, was one of the first to acknowledge that the economy is in dire straits when the administration kept telling us it’s just a bump, He wants to help the middle class regain it’s financial independance that most have lost, doesn’t distort that he’s going to raise taxes on citizens making more than $250k, speaks about regaining the wasteless spending we’ve seen in the last 8yrs…………………that’s just the beginning why I like him.

In fact, all of us don’t really know our candidates personally, so it comes down to an educated guess on your principles and intuition.

    >

    >

I personally can’t relate to a party that lies and distorts the truth about a war that 4,000 + have died in and say it was necessary, then say that we’re winning? Believes that women don’t have a choice on their reproductive rights, spies on it’s citizens, makes more amendments to the constitution than all past presidents combined to cover their butts, can’t admit that waterboarding is torture, DUH! …and so on, and so on.

The continual threat machine only isolates us even more from our allies.

I know from living in Europe for 4 yrs that our image around the world has been bruised and frankly, our respect thrown aside, especially in this global economy, we can’t just turn a blind eye to, and think it doesn’t have it’s consequences.

Now NR, instead of being so questionable repetively about why so many of us like Barack, I’d like to see you start making your OWN points on your decisions instead of always being titilated when HOUSE comes in makes them for you.

Also why you make personal decisions on a party and your candidate, whoever that may be. I guess I still don’t know.

btw, I didn’t copy and paste this from a website, it just comes from the gut, just like my decision and intuiton that Obama will be one of the best Presidents this country will have, and NEEDS.

Clap clap clap Trick!! Very well said.

It’s funny that the McCain people are now saying that the media should let the Palin family deal privately with the preggo daughter sitch. Funny that this teen pregnancy is a private family matter. Too bad they can’t spread that to all women. What goes on with our bodies is a PRIVATE matter. No one should have a say on what we do or do not do with your bodies.

Do Republicans read, or even want to know what has gone on in our government? It absolutely boggles my mind to listen to them!

I have yet to see any evidence of the Republican Party concerned with the country’s conditions. We have veterans returning that can’t get through paperwork to get the care they need…..we have older veterans who have practically been forgotten.

I don’t remember anytime in my lifetime that we have been labeled “Liberal” or “Conservative”….what is all of this anyway?

and it is insulting to me that I am labeled! I am a Democrat and proud of it.

I am not radically liberal, or ultra conservative so I wish these hypocritical Republicans would get over it. I am sick of the hate mongers among them…instead of discussing the issues they have to attack….it is so disgusting. I can’t remember any period in my lifetime when there has been such animosity and hateful inuendos thrown around.

That is why I will support Barak Obama and Joe Biden to the end…

If Barak Obama can run the country the way he runs a campaign, with integrity and openess BRING HIM ON!!

The man is so intelligent, articulate, and lives his values…..it’s not just words!

He addresses the issues I am concerned about for my sons and daughters and grandchildren.

I know from experience about the gap between men and women within the coporate payscale…..I have

experienced sexual discrimination in the work place along with other women under my management…I saw what they did to women that challenged abusive treatment……kept all of us in line because we needed to support our families.

We have experienced the most terrifying administration in history. This administration,( and I am being polite, because there are much better words to describe it….)has practiced the most outrageous governing in our history. Why aren’t people more outraged about this? Read “The Dark Side”……it is a compelling and disturbing account of the way Bush Administration has skewed the law of this land and imposed their fanatical ideology on the citizens of this country. Read Paul O’Neils book about his time as the Secretary of the Treasury. Bob Woodward’s trilogy , “Bush at War” , “State of Denial” etc if that doesn’t wake anyone up then God help us.

From what I have researched, if McCain gets elected we will have another overgrown “Frat Boy” for President.

As a Catholic I am a strong believer that Church and State are separate and must be……isn’t that why our forefathers came to these shores? To form a new republic without church domination, and persecution.

I have been following the blog here and really enjoy it and this is the first time I have entered in……

As a political science major I am going to say something here I never thought I would say …..

this is as close to a Fascist government as we have ever been subjected to and we need to put an end to this type of governing. We are America…home of the brave and the free…remember!

ok Dems…where do i go to turn my card in? NR thinks I am not informed enough on my candidate because I haven’t read his book. The horror. Is there anyone else out there who is voting for Obama who hasn’t read it? I feel so alone. Someone, please, come to my rescue.

But…I have been in the same room with it…which means I have experience with it. Just like Sarah Palin living so close to Russia gives her foreign policy experience!

Just a little levity here – think it’s hilarious that the Governor’s parents are “Chuck & Sally.”

It’s probably been echoed here more than it needs to, but I can’t believe that a parent (mother/father) would opt into the national spotlight when her daughter is 17 and pregnant. Yes, they are a normal, American family just like the rest of us. But knowing full well how things work in the media, how could a parent knowingly let their child be hung out to dry for all the world to see?

I do not think anyone can know everything about any candidate. Hopefully you do enough research to find the candidate you can support and do not let thirty second TV commercials do your deciding for you.

I really wish some people (you decide who you are) would get off their moral high horse. We are all people (even the candidates) with failings and no one is better than any one else.

    thank you,Angelscrest….

JenV…don’t turn in your card……I have only read half of his book….

Well, somebody over there at the Republican Convention is feeling some what threatened….I can remember when I could vote for “the candidate”, Republican or Democrat…but now we have been forced to vote for party…..There are some great Republicans out there that need to be part of our Congressional process.

The attack focused on Obama was kind of silly…I still don’t know what the Republicans are offering other than more of the same
