I am hoping to travel for 2.5 months and I am looking for a boarder for my three drakes (male ducks). Everything would be provided for their care, and I can afford to pay 50$ a week. The boys are tame as I incubated, hatched, and raised them. If you’re a gardener, duck poop makes fantastic fertilizer, and they love to eat slugs! There are a few requirements:

-Not dogs unless they are experienced with poultry, but cats should be okay.

-They need to be able to free roam outside during the day in an enclosed yard for their safety.

-They need to come inside wearing diapers (they don’t have bladder control) at dusk since coyotes and raccoons in particular are a major concern.

-They need access to water at all times to drink, and access to enough water to wash themselves at least every other day (either a few inches of water in their kiddy pool, or some time in a bathtub)

Please let me know if you’re interested. I am hoping to travel mid March until the very beginning of June. Thanks for looking!

I’m sorry I can’t help. Ducks are very cute, and the image of ducks in diapers is hilarious. Huggies for ducks? Hope you can find someone who can help.

Makes me wish I didn’t have a dog, curious though…where do they sleep?

If I’m just too tired to deal with them, I put them in their dog cage in the basement and they just sleep. Otherwise, they wander the house for the night until I go to bed and then they sleep in my bedroom, usually on the floor, but one really likes to be on a pillow by the heater.

I don’t think I can post pics, but here are links to the boys, and one really showing off the diapers.

THAT is amazing. Diapers! Love that you love them so much :) I wish I could be of service, but my terrors preclude me. Best of luck in your search.

If they’re willing to share a yard and henhouse with four chickens, I might be able to help. Our birds run around outside in the yard during the day, and then get locked up at night in a very secure and warm henhouse (so secure we call it “Stalag Coop”). I’m not sure I can guarantee we’d bring them inside our own house EVERY night, but we can give it a try. We can also accommodate a kiddie pool for ducks.

We do have a dog, who is great with the birds. She leaves them alone.

Let me know if you’re interested. luckie

I think the good folks at Uwajimaya might be willing to watch your ducks for you. I often see lots of them hanging around there. . . . .sorry, couldn’t resist.

West Seattle Art Attack…not funny and pretty thoughtless (IMHO only)

It sounds like Luckie might be able to help. Don’t know much about ducks. If you run out of options you can email me at feraltrapping@gmail.com, and no this is no joke. (I rescue cats)

Thanks for posting the duck photos. They are adorable – and you can tell they have personality. Love the “patriotic” diaper.

OMG if you can’t find any one I will be happy to help in anyway I can. I am happy to help some one WHO IS NOT willing to give their pet away.

Thanks for everyone’s support! WSAA, I can take the humor and I know you mean well, but it does kind of strike a bit of a chord; though I don’t curse people at all for eating duck, but it unnerving how it looks like the look of terror is cooked onto their faces.

I’ll get in contact with those who expressed interest. Or those who would want to meet them for the hell of it :).

I knew I’d take heat and posted anyway. I used to have a small dog that people called “soup bone” but it didn’t offend or bother me. There were plenty of jokes about other cultures that traditionally eat dogs. Why is it that in many cases the person that isn’t a(n) duck owner, differently abled, Italian, Native American, vertically challenged or any other category is usually the one that is most offended on behalf of the others? For the record: I like ducks both in diapers as pets (I really did think that was pretty cool) but also as a form of sustenance with a nice orange glaze. I also like humor and hate it when everything we say or do is scrutinized and must be politically correct so as not to offend someone, somewhere. Thanks Amblypygid, for your ability to identify my comment as an attempt at humor (I thought it was obvious). Sorry if I ruined your day. I hope you find a duck lover to watch them – have you tried JustDucky? He has a lot of the rubber version he watches.

Art Attack…I knew you were attempting humor. It just wasn’t funny to me on an emotional level as I used to have a pet duck (and a wide variety of other animal companions).

Has nothing to do with being polictically correct–humor, to me, is a matter of personal taste.

    Amblypygid –

I’m trying to talk my husband into this, but he’s a bit reluctant… we have a great, fully-fenced backyard, and your ducks would even have a free-roaming bunny rabbit as protector! I’m thinking if I could get him to come out and meet your ducks he might be more open to the idea… if not, I’d still love to see them!

If that would be ok, email me at dohertym at gmail dot com. :)

OMG they are adorable, my 9 year old just fell in love, If I had a house I would so help you :( Unfortunately I am in an apartment for time being, I hope that you can find someone who can take care of them while you are away. I have a feeling that the talk for the next week around my apartment is gonna be about having a pet duck :)
