anatidaephobiaParticipantOur dog needs regular care every other Friday from 645am-530pm, and soon every Thursday in the afternoon. She is about 60 pounds, lab/boxer mix, almost 10 years old. She desparately needs a buddy dog!
She was kicked out of doggie daycare. It was an in-home situation, where she was anxious about us leaving her (shake, cry, look for us). When other dogs were picked up before her starting at 430pm, apparently she was locked in a bedroom & would cry/bark the entire time (ie. the dogcare owner didn’t want her to run out the door in search for us, so she would confine our dog in the bedroom). Thus, she scratched the owner’s bedroom door. Obviously this didn’t work for the dogcare owner.
We would love to leave her at home, but unfortunately she is territorial in our home and tries to protect our children and the refrigerator from our babysitter. She is never territorial in other people’s homes, or even outside of our house.
She needs a fenced yard w/ another dog friend, or just lots of attention from a caring animal lover. We love her & she is part of our family. I’ve searched for doggie daycare situations at businesses, but they have waiting lists. I’ll keep looking, but I’m hoping that someone out there in blog land is looking for a dog friend for their own perhaps challenging dog. We paid $25/day for doggie daycare, and could continue to do that for another caring situation (or perhaps negotiate a higher rate).
We once had a wonderful care situation w/ a woman who moved from Seattle. Our dog loved her, and fit right in. So I believe there is another place out there for her, we’ve just got to find it.
Thanks!

biankatParticipantHi! I wanted to PM you, but the feature seems to have disappeared from my view. If you’re still interested in doggie daycare, have you tried Tails of the City in Georgetown? Some really wonderful ladies run it. Here’s their website: http://www.tailsofthecity.biz/index.html

RainyDay1235MemberI would say Stella Ruffington’s as well. They were the ONLY daycare that was even willing to work with us. We did not want care, just socialization. She came to us with an abustive/hoarding past and many special needs – separation anxiety being the main one. When she adopted us, she REALLY adopted us. In the end it did not work out (she was just too defensive around other dogs), but they were so understanding and willing to work with us – I still recommend them!

theshellMemberWest Seattle Dawg. It’s the new Daycare. They have small headcount, indoor and outdoor play, and even a planned schedule. I live on the same street and do daycare with them 3 days per week, and love it. My doggie even gets cake and doggie ice cream on Fridays. My dog is a bit of a head case too – so I understand. I love this daycare and highly recommend them.

anatidaephobiaParticipantIt sounds like there are a lot of awesome places in West Seattle. I followed through with the first blog recommendation, and am starting my dog there on a trial run this week! We were able to meet the staff and tour today, and they met my dog. It seems like a perfect fit.
Thanks, bianket. And thanks also to everyone who responded. Surely this will help other people who are also looking for a care situation right now.
