TammiWSMemberJust had a guy, Dalon, in the neighborhood of 47th and Raymond selling security systems. Didnt have biz cards, but they apparently have a website. Nicely dressed guy with a name tag and a shirt that had GE on it but not sure if legit. Asked if we had security system in place – I just said not interested. Anyone heard of this company?

JeannieParticipantOne of those Icon guys stopped by on Monday evening. Poor guy – didn’t he know he was interrupting American Idol?! He may have been legit, but I tend to err on the side of caution – in light of all the scams going on now. I didn’t like that he asked me what kind of security system I had. Too many questions altogether. Assuming he was legit, I feel bad for people who have to go door-to-door to make a living.

AnonymousInactiveThis has been talked about before somewhere. It seems they actually are legitimate, but not necessarily users of the greatest tactics. Telling people their neighborhood is unsafe. Asking personal questions. Wanting to see your back door. I had one who was very nice when I said no thank-you at the gate. He didn’t push. But it definitely pays to be vigilant and TR repeatedly says to call police if a door knocker acts suspicious.

TammiWSMemberThanks – I hate feeling so paranoid and not trusting! My BF lives in Cali. in a rental on 19 acres and they dont even lock doors yet we have to question everyone who comes knocking at ours?!! I feel bad for these guys too – what a way to make a living if it’s on the up and up. Thanks for your input!

inactiveMemberHey –
Last night I had a GE Electric Security sales guy at my door. He was also a serious hard seller, but probably legitimately employed, though I really didn’t give him much of an opportunity to provide authentication.
I had two Icon Security guys early last week who I think were also legitimate. Now, THEY were REALLY obnoxious. It took three requests to get them off the porch and out of my face – they double-teamed me.
I’m thinking a constructive thing I could do will be to put a No Solicitation sign up. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference in the traffic through my gate.
We’ll see.
