fetchwestMemberI have had a horrible experience with a mechanic (not in WS) and the Service Manager is not willing to help me at all. I want to file a complaint with the BBB but want to know the best way to go about it. I am open to any other suggestions as to how to resolve issues with a repair facility. I was also wondering if anyone knows where I could find the rules/laws that repair facilities have to follow regarding parts and diagnosis.

karenParticipantI recently filed a complaint with the BBB online. I can’t say that it did anything other than make me feel better. However, I hope the next person reads my complaint and saves themselves some trouble.
The customer rights in Washington State for auto repair can be found here:

Good Luck.

CheriBerriMemberI filed a report with the BBB when i bought my used car a year and a half ago. I simply went to the BBB website and wrote them exactly what happened and they chose the best way to go about it… thanks to them i got $100 back, which was nothing compare to the $1,400 i had to pay for repairs just days after purchasing but it was still better than nothin

missmandyMemberHi Fetchwest, I have never filed a complaint with them but our small construction company is a member and one of the things they advertised with our membership was arbitration if a dispute were ever to arise. So I would imagine if you file a complaint they would work with you and the mechanic to come to an amicable solution (but that is probably only if the mechanic is a member I guess). Good luck!

marianneParticipantAlso contact the Washington State Attorney General’s office. They have (or used to) a Consumer Protection division. They can also direct you to the rules and regulations that mechanics are supposed to follow regarding providing written estimates for work and charges.

maplesyrupParticipantIf you’re interested in spreading the word so people don’t patronize that business, I think sites like Yelp would be more effective.

TKDguyParticipantI had a wonderful experience with the BBB. I rented a truck and car trailer from a certain rental company and drove it here from Texas about a year and a half ago. Somewhere in Kansas the wheels locked up on the car trailer and we had the most miserable experience of waiting for hours for them to get us a tow and then we drove way out of our way to pick up another trailer in the pouring rain.
Anyway, we finally made it to Seattle and turned in the truck and new trailer to the company. One month later I received a bill for $1850 for repairs to the trailer. I was floored! They said that it was all my fault and I needed to pay it by their deadline or a collection agency would get the money from me. I held out and wrote numerous letters and appeals to their company. Their collections department realized that it wasn’t my fault when I presented them with all the facts, but they still wouldn’t let me off the hook until I agreed to pay a reduced fee of $500.
What I didn’t know was that my wife contacted the Better Business Bureau, and the BBB contacted the rental company. A couple of days after I paid the $500, I got a call from someone in the company asking me to call her. The woman was from a different part of the company and she was incredibly nice and helpful. She reimbursed me for the $500 AND she also reimbursed me $160 bucks for the car trailer rental for all the trouble they caused me.
Holy crap did the BBB do the job! I highly recommended contacting them if you have a valid complaint and the company is just giving you the finger. You never know, it just might work.

In2theknightMemberAs another poster above said, file with WA State Atty General as well as BBB. Not sure exactly how they do it here but in FL the atty general will forward the complaint to the company. And 9 out of 10 times when a company gets letters from both the BBB and the state’s atty general office, they will do something so they don’t build up a pattern of complaints with those 2 agencies. Also, I’ve used ripoffreport.com.
