JoBParticipantThis year we all could really use a bit of Irish optimism…
so i am hoping a bit of the ability to weather tough times and still smile at a friend plants itself in our fertile soil today…
Happy St Patrick’s Day..
that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…
it’s in your heart.

flowerpetalMemberI haven’t a speck of Irish heritage in me with the exception that my mother’s 87th birthday is today and she always claims “Irish” on this day.
She has been an inspiration to me; as was my dad. They both love(d) their children unconditionally. So today, because I can, I dye my goatee green; and look forward to a dinner of corned beef and cabbage!

JoBParticipantLOL… i made corned beef and cabbage last night and turned it into an incredible stew…
and am not dyeing anything green…
but I won’t stand in the way of anyone who wants to claim a little irish today ;->

austinMemberI’m pretty sure I don’t have any actual Irish blood but I’m also quite certain that I’ve a powerful lust for sensi green like the hills of an Irish spring and pints enough to stagger the stoutest lad. Sláinte!

CaitParticipantI liked it too! Very cool. I think the Irish optimism in the “gold at the end of the rainbow” is a cultural anomaly. We are a depressing people 364 days of the year (at least if you take our literature as an example)… read some Samuel Beckett or James Joyce if you don’t believe me. But don’t tell an Irishman that you’re reading James Joyce! They have a funny name for him over there that is not flattering.

JoBParticipantstrangley, “depressing people” are often the most optimistic…
exploring the dark sides of life and optimism aren’t necessarily opposites in the human nature.
people who would fight British subjugation that long must have incredible optimism ;->

CaitParticipantJoB – good point!

villagegreenMemberExploring 3 or 4 Guinness definitely makes my pessimistic self feel as though things are looking up.
.
An American walks into an Irish pub and says, “I’ll give anyone $100 if they can drink 10 Guinnesses in 10 minutes.”
Most people just ignore the absurd bet and go back to their conversations.
One guy even leaves the bar.
A little while later that guy comes back and asks the American, “Is that bet still on?”
“Sure.”
So the bartender lines 10 Guinnesses up on the bar the Irishman drinks them all in less than 10 minutes.
As the American hands over the money he asks, “Where did you go when you just left?”
The Irishman answers, “I went next door to the other pub to see if I could do it.”

AnonymousInactiveEvery Irishman I’ve ever known was as nice as could be – until he got a few drinks in him. Needless to say my buddy Seamus and I are here at the Yen Wor getting ready to do a set of U2 songs if anyone would like to come join us…..
