VanessaParticipantMe too. Isn’t it nice to slow down, and notice them.

wakefloodParticipantYou know, I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now and I’ll admit I really don’t know clouds…at all.

christopherboffoliParticipantI’ve always thought Cumulonimbus clouds were particularly awesome, both for their beauty and their danger. It’s a pity that we don’t have a local climate that produces more of them.

JanSParticipantChristopher…the ones that fascinate me are the mammatus clouds. I don’t think they happen here..

miwsParticipantThose are cool, Jan. Probably my next favorite after lenticular clouds, that are occasionally over Mt. Rainier

metrognomeParticipantwake — even tho I thought of Judy Collins before I read your post, I’m blaming you for planting that earwig. I prefer the Neil Diamond version:

wakefloodParticipantI only posted what ya’ll were thinking…
And I’m also a big fan of the awesomeness of the CN’s that CJB noted. I can remember like it was yesterday, flying out of Denver. Only a few planes were leaving as there was a lot of weather popping up and it seemed like most pilots had decided to wait it out.
We took off and literally weaved our way up and around a half dozen crazy big thunderheads. It was like the pilot was playing a video game.
It was just past dusk and each thunderhead was firing off in turn, lighting up the interior of each cloud column like a Chinese lantern.
It was really otherworldly. I thought I was inside some kind of huge diorama. It was super impressive and quite freaky at the same time. It lasted about 40 mins. and once it was over I was both sad and relieved.
Never seen anything like that in all my years of flying and probably never will again.

miwsParticipantOh, that’s right! Judy Collins sang Both Sides Now!
After Googling, I see (and probably knew at one time) that Joni Mitchell wrote it.
Couldn’t find a confirmation that the Carpenters had done a version though. I swear they did.

wakefloodParticipantJoni did a perfectly Joni version of her own song on Miles of Aisles that might be my favorite.
Always loved her comment from that album about the difference between types of artists. Upon hearing folks yell song requests from the audience she said, “Nobody ever told Van Gogh, ‘hey man, paint Starry Night again’.”
