    Carson…

i know.. i just didn’t think about it.

and to be honest. i wish i hadn’t.

i bought the one for the bedroom because i am spending a lot of time in bed lately and the old one wouldn’t fit on the dresser at the end of the bed

    but it is small….

the one in the living room is not so small

    it’s not a football fan’s fantasy

    but i still think it’s obscenely large…

    although i have to admit..

as my eyesight fails.. the logic of having a big screen makes more sense:(

they are both energy star rated.

I am going to choose not to think about them… i would rather focus my energy on something i can change.. like politics ;->

even i know when to stop butting my head against a brick wall:)

When in use, both CRTs and LCDs use ~3.4 watts per screen inch. Plasmas consume ~9.6 watts per screen inch.

BUT… the average LCD HDTV is a lot larger than the old CRT it replaces. More screen inches means more power used.

AND… older CRTs didn’t consume much energy when “off”. Newer TVs, whether CRT, LCD or Plasma eat up a lot more when “off”.

I’ve been thinking up getting a new TV for a while and started looking into this from a total cost of ownership perspective. Replacing my old 19″ CRT with a 32″ LCD would end up costing a bunch more per year than just the cost of the TV itself. I’m waiting to see if OLED technology starts to scale to larger sizes and gets cheaper. OLED draws about half the power of similar sized LCD, but right now is limited to very small screen sizes.
