redblackParticipantyeah, rich. members of AFSCME, AFGE, etc. total something like 4% of the work force, and AFL-CIO-type union members total about 3% of the work force.
wtf are republicans so hung up on unions for? you broke us already.
before you say it, private enterprise is outspending unions around 20-1 on campaign donations.

and that isn’t the whole story.
Private enterprise is outspending unions 20-1 with the aid of anonymous donations to special interest groups.
The trouble with anonymous donations is that you have no idea who or where they are coming from.
It is now absolutely possible for foreign interests to funnel money into American elections.
It’s still illegal.. but without transparency and accountability it is possible.
the American Chamber of Commerce has made a huge investment in this election and has a large number of foreign donors dumping money into the same general fund that is writing the checks for all of those ads…
and you thought the chamber of commerce was all about main street :(
the only good news is that republican greed in financing this election may be the silver lining that eventually breaks the latest supreme court ruling on elections….
it will take decades… much like the recent decision on don’t ask don’t tell… and it may be too late by then.
but at least there is hope.

though we may know what organizations are spending this new source of money on what candidates..

he then implored his listeners to contribute to the u.s. chamber of commerce forthwith, because they are you.
speaking of “they are you,” i heard the twit from delaware claim that the u.s. was fighting the u.s.s.r. in afghanistan in the 1980’s – despite the fact that that particular covert war has never been u.s. foreign policy and no one in the u.s. government has ever admitted giving aid to pakistan to fund the mujahadeen – who actually were fighting the russians, and who then turned their ire, stolen stinger missiles, and u.s. taxpayer dollars against the u.s. in the late ’90’s.

i wonder if any of them will ever acknowledge that the central district really is a part of the u.s., despite its proximity to broadmoor and madrona.
edit: here on the wes’ side, we all rub elbows, no matter your income or political stripe. i blame the bridge commute.

In what ways is America better for the average American citizen since the Laffer/Wanniski/Reagan “revolution?” While per-worker productivity continues to rise in America, REAL product is no longer manufactured, the average American is working longer hours, more weeks out of the year, with far fewer benefits (so they are lost or replaced out of pocket. Talk about a hidden tax!), and for wages that have in no way kept up with inflation.

The Republicans have most recently actively worked to block the end of tax breaks for corporations to (continue to) close factories in America and move production overseas. Good for CEO’s and unscrupulous share-holders, completely destructive for the rest of us.

They haven’t forced govt. oversight of women’s health issues, as promised.

They haven’t been able to force homosexual Americans back into the closet, as promised.

They haven’t been able to force us to pray to their Christian God in schools, as promised.

The Democratic Party is STILL actively NOT doing anything to take your 2d amendment rights away, as your fear-filled, fear-mongering leaders keep threatening.

yet the Average American citizen is poorer and less safe than they were 30 years ago.

and by the way, the concentration of wealth has become even more concentrated in the past decade. It’s a crying shame that some (too many) working people buy into their own enslavement. It never fails to amaze me that people will work passionately against their own interests.
