funnygirl28MemberWe loved the Brioche French Toast dessert at the new Blackboard Bistro, which got us thinking: what are some other standout signature desserts at West Seattle restaurants? It will be our mission to try them all!

desertdwellerParticipantMy favorite are the ice-cream sammies over at Eats Market Cafe! (And their matzo ball is great too!)

linasenzerroseParticipantthe rasberry chocolate mousse at bakery nouveau!
October 5, 2010 at 3:51 am #704960
CMPParticipantCoconut cream pie at Shoofly! I’m glad they only sell it on the weekends or I’d be there all the time.

angelescrestParticipantLa Rustica does takeout, and their desserts have been incredible. (Yeah, the bread, too!)

cjboffoliParticipantI cannot rave enough about that French toast dessert (with grilled figs and honey ice cream) at Blackboard Bistro. It is epic! I’ve made some tasty pain perdu in my day (with eggy, buttery brioche). But the texture and flavor of theirs is in a league of its own.
Obviously, just about anything in the case at Bakery Nouveau is toe curling. But the classic chocolate cake is a standout. As is the pistachio and strawberry (or blackberry, depending on the season) mousse cake. I’m still trying to figure out how he manages the crispy/sweet texture of that lower middle layer.
And as much as I’ve said that tiramisu is a cliche in American restaurants at this point (not to mention the fact that it is not even a dessert in Italy), the Tiramisu at Café Revò is definitely in the top for versions of that dessert. Really great.

todd_ParticipantSalted Caramel ice cream at Full Tilt! :D
October 5, 2010 at 4:58 pm #704964
JoBParticipanti am in agreement on that one..
unless of course it is the mexican chocolate at Full Tilt…
thanks for the reminder. i need to get over there today.

thansenMemberThey might not qualify as dessert but every time I have the Chocolate Macaroons at the Alki Bakery I’m VERY VERY VERY HAPPY
October 5, 2010 at 11:39 pm #704966
KeithMemberThe coconut cake at West 5 is a favorite. They used to make a classic ‘as seen on TV’ round yellow cake with chocolate frosting at Coffee to a Tea, but I never see it in there any more. :(

hollyplaceParticipantHere are a few of the best in my opinion that aren’t on the list above.
Chocolat Pot de Creme at La Rustica.
The peppermint cheesecake at Bakery Nouveau during the holidays it tops. I didn’t order it since it sounded like too much peppermint for me and maybe too sweet, but once I had a bite of my husband’s slice – I knew I had ordered the wrong dessert. Looking forward to December.
The baklava at Phoenecia is pretty fantastic.
I wouldn’t have guessed that a Southwest restaurant could make such delicous desserts. I haven’t had much luck with desserts at them before(oregano creme brulee is TERRIBLE). But two of the desserts from Cactus are really fabulous. The Bananas Dulce “Flash seared with brown sugar and Myers’s dark rum with toasted coconut ice cream” is an amazing version of bananas foster. I was even more impressed with their Cuban Flan. Usually I think flan shman. But theirs it more like creme brulee with carmel instead of a gelatin base.

herongrrrlParticipantReviving this thread because I’ve got a dessert date tonight, but my first two choices (La Rustica and Full Tilt) are closed on Mondays! :(
Where would you go in WS for a lighter dessert or special ice cream/sorbet on a Monday night?

inactiveMemberHmmm…such a sweet dilemma!
Less expensive, light options in WC: flan at The Salvadorean Bakery – no fancy add ons, but simply very, very good. They supply flan to many of the mexican restaurants in town. And they do a decent espresso too.
3.14 Bakery on 16th has a few treats at a ridiculous $ value – right now there is some buzz on their cake balls ($1 eac) – not high end, but tasty just the same – particularly their chocolate devil food, with chocolate grenache and chocolate icing. That’s Da’ Bomb!!! Portable cake! They are so cute.
Or, consider going to Bakery N. and split one of their mousse/ cakes. Gah!!!
Rich and creamy our mousse is unsurpassed in flavor and quality. Try the gorgeous Chocolate Raspberry Dome, Passion Fruit Mousse Dome, Banana Mouse, Black Current Panna Cotta or Praline Dream which was awarded best chocolate dessert from Seattle Magazine in 2007. Also try our award winning Phoenix cake. In 2005, William and his teammates won the bronze medal in The National Pastry Competition. The Phoenix cake scored highest in flavor at the competition.

CaitParticipantOMG – the macaroons at Bakery Nouveau. A MUST!
February 7, 2011 at 11:03 pm #704972
dawsonctParticipantI never really liked baklava (I always feel I can sense my teeth rotting out) until I tried Inam’s version at Phoenecia. It is still a sweet, honey-soaked desert, but Inam’s recipe is so light and perfectly sweet, I had a difficult time avoiding eating them daily when I worked there. Served with a scoop of Husky Deli ice cream, hard to go wrong there.
February 7, 2011 at 11:20 pm #704973
sam-cParticipantAbbondanza pizza at Morgan Junction. I’ve never actually eaten there, but we’ve gotten their tiramisu to go. I thought it was delicious.
February 7, 2011 at 11:37 pm #704974
AlParticipantI am not a pecan pie fan. However, something told me to order it last night at Blackboard. It came with creme fraiche ice cream. Holy. Moly. Salty/sweet just the right amount with a freakishly delicious thin crust. I had to slow myself down when eating it so I could be sure to catch every single flavor. I now understand pecan pie.
A more common desert that I would love to eat all the time? Full Tilt’s Horchata ice cream.
February 7, 2011 at 11:48 pm #704975
herongrrrlParticipantOh wow, that pecan pie and ice cream sound fantastic.
Bakery Nouveau is only open until 7 on Mondays. Too early for me tonight! :(

February 7, 2011 at 11:51 pm #704977
herongrrrlParticipantNoooo! Blackboard isn’t open on Mondays either.
February 8, 2011 at 12:07 am #704978
CMPParticipantSugar Rush Bakery has great desserts and I think they stay open later. Or you can try West 5 for dessert and drinks. I tried their coconut cake a few weeks ago and it was delicious.
February 8, 2011 at 1:07 am #704979
inactiveMemberSpeaking of tiramisu – Proletariat has a version I think is pretty nice – very cakey and light. And, I’m a big fan of the baklava at Kokoros, but there is the slightest variability from night to night. Freshest is bestest there.
Enjoy, where ever you land tonight. Monday nights are not good for eating out – good luck!

angelescrestParticipantBT McElrath Prairie Dog Chocolate Bar at Metropolitan. Seriously!
