AngemarieMemberI’m looking for an opportunity to do a beach clean up (or start one) on a weekly basis during the summer. Does anyone know if something like this exists?
Thanks!

Good on you! I was going to suggest contacting Seal Sitters, but it seems you already have :)! Excellent!
Here’s the link for the Parks Dept. information regarding organizing volunteer groups and activities for city parks.

Also, perhaps the good folks at the Alki Community Association and/or the folks who put out the Community paper (The Beacon, I think it is called) might know about existing efforts, or be a source for you to find others to join you.
Thank you! The summer crowds are hard on the beach and the wildlife, as well as unpleasant for the human users. So, really, it is excellent you are trying to get something going. Way to go for it!
Good luck!

WSBKeymasterI’d also recommend checking with the volleyball associations, which tend to do this sort of thing now and then. Alki Volleyball Association comes to mind and I’m having trouble remembering the other one.
Link for the Alki Community Council mentioned by WSD, which is publisher of the Beacon,
I’d start with Parks and the volleyball groups first, too. Also an offbeat choice but they know EVERYTHING about the shorelines – Seal Sitters.
Robin wrote about the Alki trash problem during that awful weekend when it was bad here and at other parks … you can still find her post not too far down this part of their site

herongrrrlParticipantI think the Surfrider Foundation (http://www.surfrider.org/seattle/?gclid=COe-sfaugqICFQgSawodLSHcGg) used to do one on Alki, might be worth checking with them.

Thanks!!

BlendParticipantI read about this guy who started a thing called Zero Trash. It was something he organized with all the local businesses. They would donate the supplies and volunteer too. It was a big success. And he did it all by starting up a page on Facebook and talking with the community just like we are doing here.
Currently our family does our own where we take a trash bag with us when we go to the beach..and pick up the trash around us. If everyone did this..then it would make a huge difference. Maybe some people will see this and start doing it too.
