A good friend in WS is desperate for a home to rent starting April 1. Needs to be 3 bdr. 1 & 3/4 ba. and of decent size – preferably 2400 sq.ft. or larger. Garage would be nice as would a gas stove but hey, those are nice-to-haves. Rent negotiable based on the place.

Would like to stay in the southern half of town and Fauntleroy would be ideal – but again, that’s just best case scenario.

Really, really, REALLY good tenants. Super clean and respectful. Cat friendly please?

Just plain desperate, haven’t found anything and have been looking for a while.

Greatly appreciate passing this around should you know any options whatsoever?

    Many thank you’s!!

They do ticket for wrong way parking. This was a few years ago, but there was snow on the road, I was going down California and hit some ice just before Othello and spun, ended up on the east side of the street, as if I had intentionally parked there. I really thought I’d done well though, I wasn’t blocking a driveway or a bus stop. I figured once the ice and snow melted under my car and/or the hill, I could get it out of there.

The next day I had a ticket that indicated if it was not moved within x hours, it would be towed. I ended up hiring tow truck to pull me out and turn the car so it was headed down hill. My next stop was Courtesy Tire for snow tires.. :)

I did challenge it and it was dismissed. But really?? I couldn’t believe that in those circumstances it was ticketed. It seemed obvious why it was there.

While I love the Sanctuary idea, you might also want to consider the Fauntleroy community center. People often book the church across the street for the wedding, then cross to the center for the reception and party. Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes does the catering and they do a great job.

KBear is right: You can’t see oncoming traffic properly AND if you do start to pull out and hit another car, it is a head to head crunch, not a glancing side blow. This causes a lot more damage to both cars.

Parking facing the wrong way is illegal under city and state law. It also requires driving on the wrong side of the road in order to enter and exit the parking space (also illegal.) Just last week I almost got into a collision with some jerkwad who was pulling out of a wrong-side parking space. You can’t see the oncoming traffic when you park that way. People who park on the wrong side are being selfish and lazy.

We used the Duwamish Longhouse and loved it. It’s affordable, unique, and beautiful. We had 100 guests and it was slightly crowded — fewer would be more comfortable. Parks and industry across the street for fun pictures. The facility manager was very helpful.

I am planning a late summer wedding and trying to come up with ideas for a unique location in West Seattle. Probably about 60 guests in the late afternoon and evening. I’d love to hear ideas and experiences with some of the better known venues. I am especially looking for a wide range of ideas.

    Thanks!

CO2 it’s generally considered proper to cite the source you are quoting, in this case the last two paragraphs from a Volokh Conspiracy column in the Washington Post written by Johnanthan Adler. Mr. Adler indeed has questions about the roll of the CPP and EPA given his tenure at the Property and Environmental Research Center. PERC’s website provides a succinct statement of its view on environmental matters:
“The Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) is dedicated to improving environmental quality through property rights and markets. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, PERC is dedicated to the principle that individual liberty, secure property rights, and free markets are essential to the conservation of environmental resources.

Originally a think-tank where scholars documented how government regulation and bureaucracy often led to environmental degradation, PERC is now the place where scholars refine the principles of free market environmentalism; the place where policy, business, and opinion leaders turn for environmental solutions; and the place where environmental entrepreneurs pair conservation and economic profit.”

So I think we now have some context for the unattributed quote you posted. Please cite your resources in the future. And it might have been more helpful to present the entire article which is actually a more complete discussion of the issues at hand than the material you selected.

Congratulations on your newest family member! We have a miniature dachshund who is almost 2.5 years old. Have you called Vanessa and Joe at Camp Crockett? We love taking our dog there because they treat her like their own. I’d love to help out but couldn’t stay at your place. Best of luck!

I met Red over 12 years ago, before she had permanent housing. I was pregnant at the time and she 1st met my son when he was a few months old. I was so happy to run into her again selling Real change a few years later. She has watched my son grow up, he’s 12 now. He only knows her as a hard working lady who travels a good distance by bus to make available to us a great newspaper and a smile. So much respect and fondness for that lady in red.

What a joke! Why do we bother to pay for any Parking Enforcement at all? Here in the lawless Wild West, they only ever patrol about 3-4 roads; California, 35th, Fauntleroy, and Delridge. There have been days where I can drive from one end of California to the other and see 2-4 P.E. Officers, yet take ONE turn down ANY side street and you will see car after car parked illegally. Try calling them on it, and according to supervisor Meyer(spelling?) “Parking Enforcement does not enforce wrong way parking as long as it is not hindering anyone”. So as long as you’re not parking illegally on an arterial, apparently you can break as many parking regulations as you want. I was also informed that they only have one officer per area to deal with abandoned vehicles, and are over 100 vehicles behind, so why bother with the find it fix it app, or the abandoned vehicle on the police website, or calling it in, they won’t get to it. I encourage my fellow West Seattlites to call on ANY and ALL parking violations you come across, so they can see just how out of hand the situation over here has become. I only wish I had a job that I could choose which aspects of my duties I had to do, must be nice.

    You’re welcome, TR.

Another thing I’m happy about is the paragraphing issue in main page commenting being fixed. Was having to remember to not attempt paragraph breaks, otherwise, that would just result in what was to be the start of the new paragraph, bunching at the end of the previous one and not leaving even a space between them.

    Also, no more of

    .

^that, to create the paragraphs on the main page.

and , frankly, no one is under any obligation to talk with anyone (except maybe the office who just pulled you over, and the subsequent judge – lol). No one HAS to respond to her every time. Or a simple “no thanks” would suffice. Do you go to Safeway down the street ever? Do you feel an obligation to speak with the person selling Real Change outside their main door? Same difference, essentially. You can simply walk by and ignore her…or use the other door :D

as someone pointed out. you could always choose the other entrance to the store if her presence bothers you. It’s not like you have to walk around the building to do so.

    she offers interaction
you choose whether or not to respond…

how is this any different than the street vendors selling programs and memorabilia and .. at sporting events?

you do realize that a good number of those vendors and the people who sell you hotdogs and snacks at night time sporting events are homeless don’t you? Worse yet.. working the night shift at games means that they literally can’t get into a shelter to sleep that night.

does that bother you? it bothers me a great deal more to know those people will be sleeping on the street than to murmur a polite good day to Yvonne…

you don’t have to purchase the paper to return her greeting any more than you have to purchase anything in PCC simply because you walked in the door…

depriving someone of their livelihood simply because you feel uncomfortable about having to make a choice whether or not to participate is not a good thing.

next time you pass her you might think about how uncomfortable you would be if you learned she had lost her indoor housing because she was no longer able to sell her paper to those who wanted to purchase it.

    just saying

k[squared] is a fun, creative salon hidden in broad daylight; right off the West Seattle Bridge! This establishment is owned by 2 salon professionals looking for a like minded, independent, creative professional. [Not limited to beauty industry professionals].

The room itself is quite large [L 16′ x W 10’3″] and has potential for many different uses. It does have a door and feels secluded from the salon. This is only available for commercial use, so no, you can not live here. The cost of space includes : utilities, restrooms, wifi, use of lounge/wait room [coffee, water, tea, magazines, seating, ect].

Please email with inquiries – ksquaredhair@gmail.com

Potential for: esthetics, waxing, sugaring, massage, lashes, cosmetic tattooing, office space, photo studio, art studio, storage, independent production, sew room, creative professionals

By all accounts, Scalia was personable socially, noted for being quick to exercise his charm and keen wit in interacting with anyone he met. It does seem he was very proud if not smug about his intelligence.

What he clearly was lacking was compassion. Interesting to consider how easily a sharp mind can be dulled by a small one.

I’m torn. I am happy that Yvonne has found a job that enables her to stay afloat, and I admit I have never walked two feet in her shoes. So I can’t possibly claim to know what her life is like. But I also admit to sometimes finding it a minor annoyance to walk by her and answer her *every time* I want to go in the East entrance to PCC. She’s hardly “in your face.” But, truly, why do I need to have to answer the same question each and every time I walk into and out of a store? I have NO issues voluntarily chatting with folks in all walks of life (ask anyone who knows me). I just resent the forced choice and passive aggression that this situation continually presents. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for my insensitivity and privilege, but wanted to speak my mind.

Thanks for the alert, Mike. Our tech team has been steadily working through the list for four weeks now and I don’t necessarily get an alert that “X is fixed” … recent fixes also include news-story-comment formatting, and a huge problem that was making it extremely difficult to update calendar entries (everything looked fine to readers but behind the scenes, one crucial feature was missing and took many, many hours for a developer to finally solve).

If you’re not seeing what Mike mentions – clear your cache or sign out of your browser and back in again. I’m going to have to do that myself because I don’t see it either but Patrick signed into a fresh browser at his desk and sees it.

Some of the many things that have changed with our overhaul are subtle but important. For example – because of the persistent spam problem with the broken, old site, Google stopped indexing the forum some time back, and that’s why it was unsearchable. (Google doesn’t tell you these things. We just discovered it one day while troubleshooting.) That is no longer an issue. It matters because there are more than a quarter-million posts here from the past eight years and they’re an important part of the WSB archives too. We know people who weren’t able to preserve their entire archive when overhauling their websites, and the folks who worked with us on this went through a lot of weirdness to figure out how to make it work.

The Mayor plans to sell Myers Parcels located at the south end of Westcrest Park across Olson Place. It should, instead, be saved (‘ land-banked’) for future use as the John Beal Park and Environmental Learning Center. It is 32 acres of wooded hillsides, wetlands and open meadows. The meadows are the most important part because, unlike the steep, wooded hillside of most natural areas, they could be quite accessible to people with health issues, seniors and the handicapped with the addition of a boardwalk . A wildflower meadow is a way for people, who may be leery of the dark woods, to experience Nature and it has its own separate ecosystem with native butterflies, crickets, killdeer, gold finches, chorus frogs, songbirds, and the Westcrest redtailed hawk hunts voles there. The flatland is the parcel the city wishes to sell to LOWES to put up warehousing.

The flatland meadows would be the perfect place to have a ‘home’ for the Duwamish Greenbelt. The Greenbridge kids could learn about nature in a safe setting after school and during the summer when their parents might be working. The seniors from Arrowhead could use it for exercise and bird watching. Much more low income housing is planned to go in adjacent to Parcels, Wind Rose low income senior housing center, and 400 more units for Greenbridge. Young people could be trained in Environmental Restoration at Beal Park, and it would be a place for the summer jobs program that would also help maintain the park and keep Hamm creek clean. John Beal, you will remember, fought to keep the City from building in the wetland on the other half of the land which is now the Joint Training Facility for firefighters and first responders ($33 million). A modest facility for the public at Myers could be used for classrooms, local cultural events, and rented off-season for meetings and private events. Yes, there is no money right now to build such a thing, just as there is no money for transportation, low income housing, and jobs programs. But until the money comes the property could be used as an ‘official’ homeless encampment (using the facilities and security of the underused Joint Training Facility next door.) And maybe some mountain biking could be allowed. It has hills that were used for that unofficially for years. There are only 12 days left to contact the City to ask that is not be sold. You should make that comment to Daniel.Bretzke@seattle.gov or send a prewritten email to the Seattle City council by going to the TreePAC.org website and following the quick, easy steps using the TAKE ACTION tab. Myers Parcels is the very last, largest piece of undeveloped property in Seattle that could become a major park and we already own it. We owe it to the future to preserve it. We have left our youth with a trashed world environment, lets not leave them with a trashed City environment too. The local residents deserve something nice between their homes and the pollution and noise of Myers Way south and Hiway 509.
