Dear Desiree, thank you for your brave soul, and putting your heart out here on line.

Forest, whoever you are, you are not welcome here. Not in my world. Why in the world would you feel the urge to even respond like you did? How mean can a person possibly be? Shame on you, Mister!

WSB, thank you for pointing out this mean comment and not deleting it.

I had the same experience with Danny Munoz. He charged me $400 up front, was completely unspecific about the scope, and did very little. When I saw how things were going, I fired him and asked for a refund for the remaining balance. He agreed but then invented a new charge for picking up bark that we hadn’t agreed to and didn’t give me my refund. In the month in which he did about one-fifth of my yard, the growth got really out of hand. In terms of his communication, when I canned him, he told me the problem was that my expectations were impossible and that no wonder I had trouble getting people to work on my yard. By contrast, the guy I hired after him did the *entire* yard, including the messy overgrowth Danny left, for $350 and did a beautiful job. Linda, who always recommends him, is his girlfriend.

I’ve also had them close out parking violation complaints without taking any action (and while the violation was ongoing.) Seems like they need to find-and-fix their app support.

JoB, I thought 22blades’ post on the other thread needed clarification. I know others did, too, especially in light of the seemingly unfounded accusation of anti-Semitism. It seemed as though they might not be following the other thread, so I posted here. I would hardly call it “killing the messenger”.

I tried to use the Find It, Fix It app to report a parking violation yesterday. I received an email this morning from parking enforcement letting me know that the CSR system is downloaded once per day, Monday through Friday at 7 am. That makes it fairly useless for reporting parking violations in real time. (I didn’t have much luck with it reporting a downed stop sign, either, to be honest).
    .
Per the email: As stated on both the Find It Fix It and Seattle.gov websites, if you need immediate assistance, please call the non-emergency number. The non-emergency number is (206) 625-5011; choose option 6 for faster service. SPD Dispatch will send one of the on-duty parking enforcement officers to the location. This is the fastest response to any parking complaint, day or evening that we can offer.

    FYI!

On transportation; I have cared for elderly parents with challenges for a few years now and I can attest to the fact that it is becoming very difficult for seniors and caretakers to function in Seattle. Lack of parking, particularly handicapped on downtown streets and some bus service being curtailed has had a major impact on people with challenges. As JoB said about the future, the age demographics of this city is like a giant ignored elephant. A “bunch” of us are getting older and we’ll have to find a way to keep everyone productive and relevant.

Hmm.. I see. Probably not the best thought out response there. I am actually going through a similar ordeal. The response was from the view of not vetting out a business before proceeding with a purchase. I was in a bit of a urgent situation made worse by my poor choice of business. I’m sick of the situation and I absolutely feel for the person who started that thread. It’s awful and it’s leading to a very unhappy and very expensive end. My apologies if my response came out weird.

Sigh. Sorry to see the hostile response. I should have jumped in sooner to note that Desiree is not a spammer – she contacted us directly and after reading her I recommended the forum as a better venue than the news section, where we generally don’t run crowdfunding requests unless they are linked to a news story (fire, other disaster, etc.). If you don’t want to respond kindly, please don’t bother responding at all. Too much meanness in the world already. – TR

cbb~IF things don’t work out for you finding the ‘Capers Santa’, I’d like to offer my services.

This holiday season will mark my 21st year Ho-Ho-Ho’ing as a volunteer to raise money for children-related non-profits. For the past 4 years ALL proceeds go directly from the customer to WestSide Baby.

I have many west Seattle families I visit each season as well as others off the peninsula. I also do phone calls to those kids who’s families will be traveling over the holidays, reassuring the kids that Santa knows they’ll be gone and where he’ll be going to deliver their presents.

One family has even video recorded Santa delivering presents under their tree and eating a cookie the kids left out for me!

This happened one night a week or so before Christmas after the kids were in bed. Afterward the parents hid the gifts until Christmas Eve, then on Christmas Day after all the present were opened they played the video showing Santa doing his deed!!

So if you, or anyone reading this is interested in an experienced and fun-loving Santa AND donating directly to WestSide Baby, please write and lets get a visit scheduled!!! (references available)

Note~Christmas Eve is likely already filled with 3 long-standing annual visits, although I have yet to receive confirmation from those families.

Hi (fill in first name) –

Welcome to the (fill in blank) neighborhood. I’ll definitely be sending my credit card information and a blank check to you. Right after I have helped out a deposed prince in Nigeria.

    Hi West Seattle neighbors.

I’m Desiree. I’ve lived in West Seattle three and a half years now and love it.

Unfortunately, I’ve met some difficult life challenges lately. These challenges have created a passion in me to speak up for people who may be experiencing the same thing.

Please know my story deals with mental health. I don’t feel mental health is an open or accepted subject in our society. I hope to change that. But if it’s something that makes you uncomfortable, or that you don’t feel ready to support, I would ask you to think before considering reading.

If you’re ready to support the need for education around this subject in our society, this story may resonate with you in a huge way.

While I have created a GoFundMe for my current situation, what’s more important to me than finances is being heard so that others can be heard as well.

I’m reaching out and being brave, even though I am unaware of any negative repracussions I may be subjecting myself to. But I’m ready. More people need to speak up and ask for help. I hope to be a leader in that fight.

    Thanks for reading.

    Desiree 💛

Anyone know the resources if I wanted to renovate/flip a property? A friend offered to sell me their West Seattle tiny house. I do not know the first person to contact for the repairs (and it needs a lot). Everything/soup-to-nuts: roof, windows, flooring, walls, kitchen, bathroom, everything. I’d rather not spend the time interviewing a dozen different contractors for various repairs and such.

Any reputable West Seattle licensed contractor who can work with permits? Maybe a walk-through would help assess the needs?

Our Pediatric Dental Office is in hiring a dental assistant skilled with making children and teenagers feel comfortable and calm for their dental appointments. If you are an individual with enthusiasm and positive energy, please consider joining our team! Full time position with benefits available at Westside Children’s Dentistry.

Sound Generations (formerly Senior Services) is a 50-year-old nonprofit serving King County older adults and adults with disabilities. We offer a variety of programs and services that help people lead healthy and independent lives in their own homes and communities for as long as possible. One of those programs is called Minor Home Repair. Minor Home Repair provides free, “minor” repairs to low-income homeowners in Seattle, Shoreline, and Bellevue. Our program is based in the SoDo neighborhood, right off the West Seattle Bridge.

The Minor Home Repair program is currently hiring for 3 positions. All offer benefits – health insurance, dental, and a 401K. All tools and a van are provided. Successful candidates must have a clean driving record for the past 5 years (no moving violations), and be able to pass an initial drug screen & background check. Join a dedicated team of professionals who provide needed repairs to over 500 clients/year in our region. This is a rewarding employment experience.

Minor Home Repair Specialist (Repair technician) $18/hour + full benefits: This person will perform repair, installation, or replacement of: leaking plumbing fixtures or pipes as well as opening of plugged drains; electrical fixtures and sockets; grab bars and handrails; broken steps, porches, and rotted floors; wheelchair ramps. This a full-time position, but could be part-time for the right candidate. You do not need any specific license to perform this work.

Residential Electrician (Journeyman) $30/hour + full benefits: Ideal position for someone looking to work part-time while providing a much-needed service to low-income homeowners in our region. Will hold primary responsibility for the electrical repair requests (minor in scope) made by our customers. Residential journeyman license (or higher) required. We are looking for someone to work 20-24 hours per week.

Plumbing Specialist (Journeyman level residential plumber) $30/hour + full benefits: This person will perform minor plumbing repairs to low-income homeowners and share responsibilities with second plumber for installing new toilets and removing old ones for the Water Conservation program. We are looking for someone 20-24 hours/week who carries a current journeyman residential plumbing license or higher.
