If you use the bus and water taxi a few times a week you could look into a bus pass. They also have a single day pass for $5.50 which is worthwhile if you’re going both ways on the water taxi more than two hours apart and using the bus in between, and might be more cost effective than a monthly pass if you’re using metro two out of five days (or seven).
I live in West Seattle and drive to Lower Queen Anne for work. I am trying to reduce my carbon footprint and now walk around West Seattle as opposed to driving. But paying 3.00 each way seems like it would cost me more to pay 6.00 a day then drive to work and park for free. Does anyone have any suggestions?? The bus is not an option because 3 out of the 5 days I work I leave at midnight.
one of the things that I have thought about since this happened is her viability as a running mate for Obama…not gonna happen now. This is out there…it’s part of the world, floating around in the air…and while we “get it”…there’s always that little faction that doesn’t, and heaven forbid…take it to heart. G-d, I even hated saying that, let alone think it…but…
Thank you, WSMom!
A gold mine for a music freak like me.
I concur with Celeste17, the WT is great, and parking at along Alki Ave on weekdays isn’t that bad. Weekends, like today, would be darn near impossible. If you are going downtown, you can walk to the Harbor Steps building south of the steps and take the public elevator to the 1st Ave level. Or walk to the Market Garage and take the Market Elevator. Assuming you don’t want to climb the Harbor Steps (saves one from the ciggy fumes too–the last thing you want to do when you gotta breathe is inhale someone else’s cigarette smoke.)
The WT is no more faster than the Bus (barring a Ms game or traffic tie-up) but it is much more relaxing–The Argosy crews are efficient and polite.
BTW, the shuttle leaves the Junction and drives straight to the WT. Besides, if you are on the shuttle, the boat will wait for you to arrive. Just look for the little green shuttle signs on the bus stop signs.
I agree that this was way out of line. I don’t think any one would dispute it was a huge mistake. She could have even still used RFK with different wording. I’m just in the Jan camp. *I simply don’t want this to be again, the topic that leaves the real conversation in the dust.*
When you have every word you say dissected during an exhausting months long campaign, you are going to screw up. I’m surprised there hasn’t been worse, on both sides, sooner. I am supporting Obama, but unlike some others, I don’t think Hillary is evil.
bcollins…she is definitely taking political advantage of race…that’s what politicians do. it is most unfortunate that she said this when she did…well, that she said it period. It can be a thought, but sometimes you have to realize that you simply can’t verbalize those things …ever. It’s a great insight into the candidate, even if she says it was a faux pas, and didn’t mean it like it came out. I simply don’t want this to be again, the topic that leaves the real conversation in the dust.
They are all politicians and subject to gaffes..I’m sure that now she’s “apologized”, that she wishes it would just blow away. I’m sure this will become a point in the campaighs…
This was not even the first time she brought up RFK and the assassination. It was actually mentioned on 5/07/08 too. She has *tried* to claim that she made this *slip up* because the Kennedy name has been on her mind since the seizure however; 5/07/08 is prior to the seizure. Keith Olbermann brought up so many examples that she could have used that would have avoided the dreadful word assassination but she chose not to Then she gives a half a ** apology because the truth is she does not see anything wrong with her comments. So classless.
That would be great!
I was referred to a list of links by the city and at the end of it all it wasn’t clear if it was a street or parks…or whatever issue. I really just want the city to take the plant materials. I’d be happy to dig it up and replant (solo or part of a community project).
thanks, JT…moment of sanity. I understood what she was saying…she said it once before. I have never felt that she should pull out…almost a slap in the face who have stood by her during the primary season….it’s over when it’s over, I say.
But it sure helped a slow media day, didn’t it?
Kayleigh, thanks for the link. Thought he nailed it too. Makes you think nothing’s going to change though, and I don’t know how both sides are going to come together.
The RFK thing is being blown out of proportion, IMO. Stupid, stupid thing to say. Bringing up assassinations in this climate when Obama has already been getting threats. Still, just a case of trying to make a point and poorly choosing her words. Kind of like Obama and the gun toting bible thumpers.
RFK JR, who supports Hillary, went on the news and said it didn’t bother him, so why should it bother us.
Who did you talk to at the city who was “not clear”? There’s nothing on the Parcel Viewer
http://www.metrokc.gov/gis/mapportal/PViewer_main.htm
(use it to look at 35th and Fauntleroy)
but private property and street space. Looks like this would be part of the street space, and that’s city of Seattle unless marked otherwise.
I know one non-government person to check with who may well know – someone with the Fairmount Community Association, which is talking about organizing a long-overdue community cleanup in that area, including the stretch down to Walking on Logs. I’ll e-mail to check — TR (WSB editor)
I know my Mom hired a tutor for me when I was young and I think she asked the teacher for a recommendation. You might also check with the local colleges there are always starving students who need some experience teaching (I found I did better with a tutor who was closer to my own age then someone who was older). It seems to me that since they are younger they can find different ways for the child to learn. I am a visual learner rather then a read and then apply. When I was young my dad would do flash cards with me for the math and I could tell that 3+2=5 but that 2+3=5 I couldn’t tell him. He would get upset at me and tell me that it was the same number as the other just in a different arrangement. Now I know LOL! Good luck and hope your little girl will get the hang of it.
I use to take it all the time (when I worked in Downtown). If you get down to the boat for the first 2 runs the parking is usually pretty good. The only time the parking wasn’t good was when the fishing season was open and then all the trucks and trailers where parked on the street. I would often take the 16 and what I found is that if I was the first one off the boat and really walked fast I would make the bus. The bus needs to wait for the foot traffic from the Ferry so sometimes we would be waiting a few minutes. There is also the 66 so sometimes if you miss the 16 the 66 would be an option. There is also the waterfront streetcar bus that runs but I am not sure when and where to catch that bus.
We’ve been trying to put together a time when everyone can get together. I know our schedule is crazy over the next few weeks but I’m sure we could find some time to socialize and have coffee or wine with a bunch of WS Gardeners. :)
Everyone just needs to weigh in with their preferences for meeting times. Sundays are usually really bad for us because that is our market day so we’re up in Ballard most of the morning then putting stuff away, freezing, canning, etc. That’s our only restriction.
Update, just added a little bit to the home-page post. Two separate e-mails have indicated police told residents they were looking for a suspect in an assault. No info on circumstances and I don’t have afterhours contacts to try to find out more (a longrunning project to try to fix that), but that’s at least a little bit of info — will continue to monitor as we’ll be up well past midnight — TR
Yeah that’s mine. There should be some nude pictures of my dog on there.
Hi! im looking for a tutor for my daughter who will be going into the 2nd grade next year. I was thinking Sylvan or Kumon, but ive heard that they are pricey and also tutor in small groups. I think my daughter needs more one on one. She needs help in reading and math. If anyone knows of any good tutors,or have had good experiance with either sylvan or kumon it would be great to know!! thank you!!!
saney, parking is a huge challenge down there. The couple times I did drive down, I would get home at the end of the day unable to move my car because people parked so close to me that I would surely hit them if I tried to get out of the spot. The free shuttle is a great option if it’s not too far from where you start. I only had to walk a few blocks to the corner of admiral and california. One big complaint with the water taxi is that it doesn’t necessarily take the “only 12 minutes” that the website mentions. Not a big deal if you don’t have far to go after you get to the other side, but I had to get down to the far south end of pioneer square so it was a little frustrating, also if there is a lot of freighter traffic the little water taxi has to go around and yield for them. It’s a relaxing ride if you aren’t worried about making a specific time. I have to be to work at 6 a.m. so it really doesn’t work for me at all.
LOL…my Mom quit Curves when she found out about the owner’s anti-abortion stance. Melsbees, you should be able to get a two week membership for free to All Star to check it out. Not sure about trial periods for the YMCA, but I’m quite sure that 24 Fitness offers something as well. Check them out and see which one you like best. Southwest Pool has water aerobics, but they’re closing down for the summer, unfortunately. You could go to Colman Pool too and get a nice walk in to boot. Good luck in finding something that works for you!
The Log House Museum is planning on installing an exhibit at the Admiral Theater in June. We need a case built to display a 1940’s self service popcorn machine and are putting a call out to any local carpenters that could help.
Help give Pops Corn a home!
I got a letter saying I would have mine by today. Guess what? No check in the mail. Liars.
well, i finally hit my breaking point with gas prices. i traded in my parking pass at work for a company provided bus pass. it takes about 40 minutes to get to work on the 55. i am thinking of trying the water taxi.
my questions….
what is the parking situation down at the dock? taking the bus there defeats the purpose since i will have to change busses just to get to the dock.
also…
i was looking at the schedule. to get to work, i would need to catch the 16 bus once i get to the downtown side. it seems scheduled 3-5 minutes after the water taxi arrives. does anyone here take the taxi/bus 16 route to work? how is that? are you having to wait the 20 minutes for the next 16?
Jiggers, here is a true story.
Someone called to ask me how to apply for a job. I told them. They ignored me and sent the resume to our president, who forwarded it to me.
Now what do you think I did with that resume from a person who 1. Can’t follow directions 2. Thinks the rules don’t apply to her 3. Doesn’t respect me enough to actually listen and 4. Doesn’t respect our president’s time 5. Doesn’t understand that presidents generally don’t do initial screenings?
People form huge judgements (fairly or unfairly) based on how you apply for the job, present yourself, etc. And you, as a candidate, should be judging the employer as well, based on how they treat you, their flexibility, their courtesy and promptness, etc.
Hi- I would love to be included in any gardening meetups that happen! My partner and I gradually getting our yard toward a future vision of food production/greater sustainability/etc. Thanks!
