The usual Fauntleroy Church Recycle Roundup will NOT be held this fall, but there’s an alternative event in the Junction scheduled for Sunday, September 26: http://wsjunction.org/blog/junctionresuerecycle2020/
We are looking for a recommendation for company who does crawl space and attic insulation. We have old floor vents that need to be sealed closed as part of this as well.
Thanks in advance!
Hi all!
I’m soon going to be moving into a new apartment just up the road from me in the Junction. Normally I would just rent a car and do all the hauling myself and with friends, but due to a medical issue I’m not supposed to do a lot of heavy lifting, and my friends have other commitments. Basically I just need a vehicle and 3-4 people to help me (A) move some suitcases and boxes from my old place to the new one and (B) help me unload the rest of my stuff from a shipping pod into the new unit. Part A needs to happen by the 20th; part B could happen later but ideally around the same time.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Kathleen
Hi, I am a member of the CTF and I can tell you they are fully vetting the tunnel. It is one of the replacement options being considered in the CBA. They added an extra 250k to the process to ensure it was fully vetted even though it is something that should be looked at during the ‘size, scope, location” discussion that happens after the CBA. They moved it up to calm peoples fears of it being left out and put a quarter million dollars down to back that move. Whoever told you it wasn’t being consider hasn’t been closely following the project.

Don’t build any bridges to W.Seattle, save the money and fund the police.
Less traffic, less crime, quiet and make W Seattle a Paradise island full of coconut and palm trees.
Hello West Seattle Community,
I’ve set up this on-line petition to urge Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to seriously consider an immersed tube tunnel (ITT) similar to the system that supports BART and many other underwater thoroughfares worldwide. Per a presentation from local engineers, the ITT solution has numerous benefits including lower cost, faster construction, a good safety record, longevity, and earthquake resilience.
From what I understand, SDOT is focused on repair or replacement of the bridge and may have “tunnel vision” – pun intended! It’s unclear what political and business pressures will influence a decision; we must avoid another lengthy, costly bridge option unless it’s the only solution. Proper evaluation of an ITT requires SDOT to bring in outside experts and think outside of the box. We MUST keep up the pressure on them!
On September 27th, I will submit this petition to our Councilwoman Lisa Herbold who can bring our collective voice to the SDOT bridge replacement task force of which she is a member.
Petition to SDOT – DEADLINE SEPT 26
If you want to learn about the ITT, here is some information from the local engineer who has done much analysis of this option.

Hello, I am looking for someone to wash the outside a 5×10 foot window on the third floor of an apartment building. Will pay well even though it is a small job. Lowman Beach area. This is a safe, socially distant job since I can pay by Venmo and no need to enter the apartment itself. Plenty of room for a ladder.
It’s been years since it’s happened to me so I could be wrong, aren’t they obligated to provide an estimate prior to working on your car? I don’t think you should have paid for work you didn’t authorize.
I’ve been to the Burien Goodwill, and had a decent experience there. I believe they accept donations between 9 and 3, most days–but check the website to make sure. They have people with donations line up in their vehicles, and when it’s your turn you drive up to a spot and unload your items into bins they provide.
A couple things to note: at least when I was there they wouldn’t help people unload items, and they weren’t accepting “large” items–so no furniture, and nothing larger than, say, a small microwave.

Many organizations have had to put donations on hold. What you have sounds like it might work for the Junction’s Recycle/Reuse event, now less than 3 weeks away:

Suggestions for where to donate accumulated household items and clothing? I understand the Northwest Center truck isn’t available during the pandemic.
After 11 years in Seattle (7 in West Seattle) the Surly family is picking up and moving to Norway. Mrs Surly is from there, and our kids are thrilled that they will be able see their only living grandparents every day. Me? Well I like cold weather, pickled fish, and skiing.
There are so many things I will miss about Seattle, but I will not bore you by listing them. The things I will miss most about West Seattle are 1) My 20+ mile runs through our amazing parks, followed by two sandwiches from Husky Deli (a Club Husky followed by a tuna and swiss), 2) paddle boarding, kayaking, and swimming spitting distance from my front door, and 3) tide pooling with my kids. We are keeping our house and renting it to my niece, who is completing here medical residency here, and sold our rental property near the junction to a friend who is a developer; not sure what his plans are for it yet. We have no plans at the moment to come back, but who knows what life will bring.
Be kind to each other and remember that the bridge debacle will not last forever.
Farvel og ha en fin dag!

I recently just went through the process of getting myself a hybrid fitness bike so I will share a bit of my experience. Most of the entry level type bikes are sold out (sub-$1200 bikes), and have been for months. Many stores are getting them a few at a time, sporadically. I was looking for a Specialized Sirrus model specifically, and called a couple dozen stores around the western side of the state. After a couple weeks I was able to find one in Gig Harbor in my size, but not the color or model I REALLY wanted (I had to spend about $250 more to get a higher end model since it was the only one available). When I called, I also asked if they had anything comparable to the Sirrus model, or any entry level priced bikes. The answer was always no. Some stores told me they had literally zero bikes in store available to sell.
So the short answer to your question is, don’t limit yourself to a specific store. Just start calling around and hope you find a store with what you are looking for. If you know a brand or model you want, you typically can go to the manufacturers website to see what stores carry which brand (online inventory is not accurate according to most stores I called), then start calling. Good luck!
Hi, kgallaghy, WSB Forums is a great place to look for advice on this, and so much else.
But, specifically to the topic of bikes/bicycling in West Seattle, and although I’m not…ummm…connected to them, other than casually following their Facebook page, I’d check with the group West Seattle Bike Connections.
As far as purchasing a bike, although I don’t have personal experience with any of them, I think I’ve heard of mostly favorable experiences with all of the West Seattle bike shops.
That being said, if I were in the market for a bicycle, the first place I’d probably check out would be Alki Bike & Board in the Admiral District.
Not only is owner Stu Hennessy hugely involved with the local bicycling community he’s also very involved with the West Seattle community as a whole.
Hope all of this helps!
Mike
Lots of household items, craft supplies, nice women’s clothes (sizes 10-20) and nice women’s shoes (appropriate for work) sizes 7.5-11, furniture, electric grill (great for apartments), electric automatic “dustpan”, large room divider, etc…
If anyone needs a great mechanic who is honest and trustworthy go talk to Ben at Complete Auto. He was on the 35th and Holden at the really ugly building he leased but has since moved to his own location on Delridge. He worked on my 2001 Ford Ranger until I finally decided to sell it and go new two yeas ago. And guess who bought it? Ben!
He now takes are care of my two new vehicles and always will.
He is simply the most honest, nicest and trustworthy mechanic I have ever had.
My family has a very similar experience this year.
If I could give zero stars I would. A family member of mine went here for some work on their car because it was close to their house and their kid knew the owners son. The original work was for an oil leak repair.
They ended up blowing up the motor and treating my family like garbage!! The owner has horrible customer service and is SO rude. He yelled at them on the phone and kept their car for three weeks. He refused to deal with my mom because she wouldn’t let him yell at her and she couldn’t be manipulated! He kept saying it would be ready but then would push the date back. He acted like my family was crazy for being so upset about them blowing up their motor that had no problems prior to them bringing it in. They did something messed up with the timing belt, tried to start the car up and then blew the motor.
The owner refused to provide his insurance information and FORCED my dad into letting them put a junk yard motor in it. He kept claiming it is so much better than anything insurance would cover. He refused to provide a warranty on it as well!
I would not let them work on my car if it broke down in front of their shop. I wish my family looked at their Google and yelp reviews before ever coming here. Do not trust them with your vehicles, not even for an oil change. They got their car back and the check engine light that wasn’t on to start with CAME ON! The speakers aren’t working and my dad won’t let my mom drive it and says don’t trust it it might break down! These people are CROOKS!!
Catmom. Tax evasion is a crime that should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But credit card fraud also happens-and should also be prosecuted. It’s definitely NOT a risk free payment option. Joblessfuture. My sister and a friend have both been in restaurants that had card reader issues. They would NOT let them leave until they’d paid with CASH. No dine and dash.
CarDriver – to your original question of whether or not a business can refuse to take cash. Yes, they can. From the Federal Reserve site:
“Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.” (https://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/currency_12772.htm)
States may prohibit this but I don’t think WA state does.
Although I don’t think that’ll satisfy you since you could have googled that yourself.
