Police have checked out several reports of possible gunfire in various areas tonight, and just confirmed one: Officers checking out 911 calls told dispatch they’ve found shell casings at 29th SW and SW Brandon [map]. No report of injuries so far.
So when is Saka gonna do anything to make even his own neighborhood safer?
What should he do? Not trying to be pro- or anti-Saka. Just noticing that no city council members, nor the mayor, nor the county council seem to have any plan or intention to do anything. What do you think they should do? Within the boundaries of their ideology, no options seem to even exist, other than idle talk blaming someone else.

Saka is just one of several Council members. He’s constantly advocating for more crime-fighting measures city-wide. Do you expect him to patrol the streets in his neighborhood with a pitchfork?
I’ve seen him advocate against diverters that would make this area less attractive to people shooting guns from their cars, I’ve seen him fight a curb for 2 years. I’ve seen him allocate funds to turf fields no one wanted turfed. When someone’s car seat got shot in he suggested street lights: he talked at his constituents and didn’t listen.when a cyclist got hit by a car and killed. He suggested a road sign with the victims name on it. We just had another cyclist die, he said “we hear you”well if he is hearing us I’m not sure what it is he’s doing, as far as I can tell rob Saka advocates for one person: himself.preventing a diverter that would make him drive and extra 5 seconds and prevent using a greenway as a cut through. He fought a curb that made dangerous left turns into his kids day car impossible, so he could save 10 seconds of driving or parking and walking.he moved funds to turf fields for his kids despite surveys saying people don’t want turfed.i suppose he’s also trying to steal funds from metro for some sidewalks.so I ask again: what’s he doing to make his district, his neighborhood safer?
What more do you expect him to do? He has been the strongest advocate for increased police staffing on the Council. He led the charge to get the security cameras turned back on for FIFA. What could he have done to prevent this shooting from happening like a quarter mile away from his neighborhood?
I see we’re back to firing guns at the same location as last spring. This eventually moved into the High Point neighborhood, including the Library.
Is there a still increased police presence in High Point? I know some point last year there were emphasis patrols and that seemed to calm things down. There used to be shots fired on Brandon once a week or so up until the patrols started. If there are no longer emphasis patrols, can we get them back?
