I lost my phone somewhere on the west sidewalk of 25th between Findlay and Brandon. Could also be on the north sidewalk of Brandon between 25th and 26th, or the hill in the southern part of Cottage grove park this morning. My husband and daughter were looking everywhere for it and have yet to find it. It’s a its a pink and green case with a picture of my husband and daughters on it. It has precious videos and photos on it so if you find it could you please contact me. Thank you.

My wife drives that route every day and has had a few close calls there but never hit thankfully. What time of day was it, it may jog some peoples memory but of course the torn off bumper should too!
It wasn’t that “Yellow Ryder” truck that did damage to a WSB poster was it? Sorry can’t remember story, think it was under crime a couple days ago.
Good luck with your insurance company.

How do you know if I gave her money or not I never mentioned if I did or did not. All I’m saying is I find it strange that she’s still out and about panhandling for at least a good 2 years that I’ve noticed when Seattle has so many places that would help her, especially since she has children. Mary’s Place (I think for one)
And you have no right to think of what my beliefs are to accuse me of being what did you call it “Reagan Era welfare queen” I for one have never had to go that route (public assistance) but do have friends that have and have always helped them when I could.

So to end this… you all can think that I’m a negative judging person and that’s your right but I know what I am.

NO I do not have all the time in the world, I’m 65 and have worked and still working for the last 48 plus years of my life. I just find it strange that she can travel store to store to panhandle and yes, I do not know her circumstances.
As for the “African” woman as you pointed out I had never seen her and I do not judge people by their Color/Race as you seem to.
I’m not posting here to get into a dizzy fit with anyone I understand people have their reasons to panhandle it was just my observation that I recall seeing her at numerous businesses that are not close together/walking distance just seems sad that she has no family to help and or the resources.

My husband was sideswiped yesterday at 1st Ave S and East Marginal Way near the Chevron station by a large box truck as they turned from 1st Ave and headed towards the first ave bridge southbound. The truck when turning came into his lane sideswiping our car on the drivers side front panel and ripped off the front bumper and front end of the car and kept on going. My husband wasn’t injured and followed the truck and got some information off the truck but was unable to get the driver to pull over as he continued toward highway 99. Our insurance company is dealing with the trucking company but a witness would be helpful. We know this is a longshot but I am wondering if anyone might have been in the area and witnessed this event. If so please post here and I will reach out to you.

momosmon -do you have so much time on your hands that you are keeping track of the travels of someone for the past 1 1/2 years and then criticizing how they are choosing to live their lives? what business is it of yours? if you don’t want to give her money that’s your business. writing about her travels here and making assumptions about how she chooses to spend her days?
I’m curious how you feel about the African American woman who spent years of her life sitting in a chair outside the old PCC and Admiral Safeway. maybe still there for all I know. Is it ok for her to do it?
This is what I know- whenever I chose to hand over money to someone it is none of my business how they chose to spend it. Same here, why judge how this person earns their money?

On Saturday, February 6th at about 11:30 am, a 12-foot Ryder truck rode through my back alley and demolished my backyard fence, pulling up the cement footing in multiple spots, and scraping on a yellow bumper.

My neighbor saw the truck and raced outside to try to capture the license plate, but it was already on the move and was so dirty, the license plate was harder to see.

I suspect it raced away up Admiral Way. If anyone saw a dirty Ryder truck with damage/deep scrapes on the righthand side and probably yellow paint from scraping on the bumper, I would love to know.

I tried to file a claim with Ryder but no local Ryder center says they’ve seen a truck like this come back to the lot. I also tried to file a claim with Ryder (national), but without a license plate or partial one, they say there’s zero possibility they will approve a claim.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old phonograph Cabinet I am looking to let go of. I love it but just don’t want to haul it around as I move too much. This is about the size of a small credenza or wet bar unit (I’ve been using it as a wet bar) and had been chalk painted to give that antique look. Happy to send text just shoot me an email. amickows@gmail.com

If you are getting a vaccine shot for something other than COVID be aware that you need to wait at least 14 days for the COVID vaccine…apparently, not all the doctors are aware of this. I was offered a pneumonia vaccine and asked my Dr if it would keep me from my COVID shot 1 week away. Assured it would not interfere, I consented. Then I saw on tv something about a 14 day wait between shots. After confirming the info with several sources, I had to cancel my COVID shot(and we ALL know-how hard it is to get an appointment! PLEASE learn from my and my dr’s ignorance. I am not naming the dr(or their office which does not feel any responsibility for finding me a new spot for the COVID shot) because my goal here is to let you know about the waiting period.

I work in community mental health and several of my clients are or have experienced homelessness. I’ve seen several of my clients holding signs in front of local retailers. Their life stories have layers of struggles including complex PTSD, endless systemic oppressions and inequities, and neglect in many forms. If they are receiving monthly disability checks, they generally have just enough $ to cover rent/utilities each month leaving them with just a few dollars for spending money. I continue to learn from them and have acquired a heightened sensitivity to our community members in need of support.

A letter I sent to the PCC today regarding there protesting the city’s increased hourly wage during Covid

I have been a member since I moved here in 1985, at that time it was in a small brick building west of green lake. Everyone brought all their own containers, babies cried, you waited your turn to park and were proud to be part of a tribe that choose to support a community of like minded people who choose to eat healthy organic foods at an affordable price.
Many good evolutions have occurred since then. It has been a complex and controversial path forward. Decisions have been carefully made and reconsidered and debated as a healthy community do.
Choosing a leader who does not, first and foremost, support our employees, however, Is just wrong. PCC should, and has been, the model for how the greater world should treat their employees. Our employees, like all of us, are hard working, skilled members of society deserving of living wages and benefits to support our chosen families. The PCC leaders must have that first in foremost in their decisions We are all workers. Transparency of wages at all levels from temporary employees through upper management is crucial to a healthy, functioning, community based, responsible organization.
Given all of this, It is hard to believe that the current leader of the PCC is a good fit with the very long term goals of our coop. Choosing to protest “combat pay” for our employees during a once in a century health and economic crisis is contrary to everything we stand for. I thank every employee I see, every time I am there for continuing to be there for us.
Expansion and profit are absolutely secondary secondary, to the goals of sustaining the coop to provide healthy food and good fair employment.. I also have to question whether the team members who choose the current leader have also lost sight of the vision.
If there are financial problems with PCC, there must be during Covid. The coop needs to be public about those struggles and involve their members in reaching community based decision for long term sustainability.
This, hopefully, can be seen, as a good time to step back and look at the recent choices we have made as a coop and realign our actions with our core beliefs.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and all you have done and I hope will continue to do for our community. Kea Ireland

I should not have to explain myself but on this circumstance I will. My wording of somethings not right was meant if there is something mentally, physically not “right” then again the available resources what they may be have let her down. BUT in our eyes there seems to be nothing wrong with her and as Cardriver states…well I’d read it again especially his last line.

There was a woman that stood outside Met Market and Admiral Safeway with her sign saying she needed money for her 3 kids. Haven’t seen her for quite a while. One day watched her leave from Safeway and go get in her fairly new Toyota van. It was clean and looked well cared for. No sign anyone was living in it. My sister lives in Ballard. People are always at the Fred Meyer entrance with their sign’s looking for money. Couple of years ago she told the guy that not only Fred Meyer had signs up that they needed people the post office a block away had help wanted signs up also. His response was to hurl obscenities at her for not giving him money. Jesse Jones from KIRO did a story last year on women downtown with their young kids begging downtown. Followed them on the bus to their high end apartment complex complete with pool. Sad reality is that there ARE scammers out there. The people they’re hurting are the ones that really do need help.

No need to judge. You don’t know her story. I’m sure she wouldn’t be putting “so much time” into standing outside stores (can’t be much fun, really) if she didn’t think she had to.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Met Market and noticed a friendly girl (she says hello how are you when you walk by her) sign in hand stating the fact she is a “mom” needing money for food for her children, now again today she was there but I also recall seeing this same girl outside of the Roxbury Safeway about a year and half ago same language on sign… well what do you know we went to the WWV QFC 3 to 4 hours after our Met Mkt. visit this morning and there she was standing by the driveway into their parking lot… makes me wonder if she would put that much time and effort into finding a job she wouldn’t need to panhandle???

    Hi, Kathleen,

I think a couple of good places to start would be the Duwamish Tribe and the Southwest Historical Society:

    Hope this helps!
