Hi Saraee, this was mentioned a few weeks back, I believe both here in Forums, and on the WSB Main Page.

I’ll see if I can find one or both, and link them here.

Does anyone know where the third white goose came from in Lincoln Park? For years I have only seen two and about a month ago another one showed up that now hangs out with the other two!

Thanks for this post! It’s always fun to see the beautiful geese at Lincoln.

Tracy, I didn’t mean to imply the man was FROM Anacortes, merely that Sam the goose came from that area.

The man I talked to appeared to be in his 40’s so it’s not impossible that he had something to do with the geese showing up at the park?

Next time I see him, I’ll ask for more info and let you know if he cares to share any. If any of the readers notice a man with a moustache and usually wearing a yellow jacket feeding the geese, ask him. He’s very friendly.

I wonder what would happen if the geese started attacking off leash dogs at Lincoln Park?

    Reader photo was included here:

5 things for the rest of your West Seattle Tuesday, + 3 geese

I have never heard a story about one person “placing” the geese. Following is the story that was told during a triple-digit comment thread about a dog attacking one of the geese in 2012:

Lincoln Park ‘resident goose’ attacked by dog, readers report

All I know firsthand is that white goose/geese have been there at least 15 years or so. My kid and I would see them down at Cove Park (reopening soon!!!!) during walks down the hill in his toddler days. Could have been around long before that, but it’s the clearest memory I have.

If Wakeflood or anyone else has any idea how to reach the person he mentioned (from Anacortes? why here, then?), that certainly would be a story of interest. – TR

wake, if you haven’t done so already, you might want to drop a quick line to TR, to let her know this backstory. There was an article and pic of the three geese a couple weeks or so ago.

I would guess that WSB might post a quick update, when time permits.

So maybe this has already been posted but if not, some really great news for fans of the geese at Lincoln Park.

The kind man who put them there years ago brought a gentleman suitor to join them. He’s bigger than the two sisters and his name is Sam.

When the man comes down to visit every week or so, they honk up a storm when they see him coming! He feeds them romaine lettuce by hand and they look so happy!

Sam has traveled from up near Anacortes? if I remember correctly. I think he’s around 3yrs. old.

Let’s hope they continue to enjoy a long, happy and healthy, reasonably unfettered life.

OK, many of you know about my rants on folks who would rather have a pity party and disobey leash laws than actually do the work to get the space they want, well, COLA is asking for your support now.

Go here, sign this petition, share it on your FB page, and then DO SOMETHING to help it become a reality, please?

    Thank you,

    Signed,

The geese, the seal pups, the other various flora and fauna in our parks, the lawful owners and their pets, and every non-pet owner who uses the parks.

Yeah, as cool as it would be to have it down at the Beach, (and be able to see the Resident Geese, and yell at Morons letting their on or off-leash dogs on the Beach), I’m personally glad it’s topside.

I probably would have still come, but was concerned on more of an “Administrative Level”, what with being on the Planning Committee, and one of several of us that have trouble with hills. I could do one uphill trip, (with rest breaks likely), but repeated ones to unload/load, would be a big issue.

    Just thinking…

It seems that it might be helpful to figure out ways to enlist others who haven’t read this thread but would agree with those who want to reduce the off-leash threat to the geese?

One way that pops into mind is signage posted to educate park goers. It could be brief and inform folks that the geese have been attacked multiple times by off-leash dogs and that their mother was indeed killed by one. It could list the phone number of HH (or Animal Control) and suggest capturing events on phone cam.

I realize that the Parks folks would be reluctant to allow signage anyplace but the main board at the south end entrance but we could ask? Maybe someone knows already?

We have the seal sitter signage already but that doesn’t include a request to report wrongdoers, does it? And I’m sure that signage was vetted to be within some legal terminology.

Regardless, I suspect that education will help swell the ranks of those who would help protect the geese.

P, I think you’ve made the right decision. The park is the only home these geese have ever known, so it’s understandable that they would be reluctant to leave.

The only thing we can do at the moment about the off leash thugs is to harass the heck out of them, so that it just becomes too uncomfortable for them to continue their behavior. The owners, that is – the dogs are just being dogs. I would also encourage visitors to Lincoln Park to take down the license numbers of off-leash offenders and make an online report to Animal Control.

About Fish & Wildlife: I called a few weeks ago to report the killing of a federally protected seabird by an off-leash dog. They never returned my calls.

@waynster fish and wildlife will NOT do anything, These geese are considered domestic period.

dhg: we actually did suggest that. We will continue to check in on them and see if they changes your minds, but for now they accept what will happen to them.

Geese can be terribly difficult. I know for a fact they’re hard to train because if you leave off for just one day they forget the routine!

I think you should use the 4 communicators to tell them that you are aware they might change their mind and so you will bring the truck around and, if they are not interested, they are to simply ignore the bread crumbs leading into the cages.

It comes with a heavy BUT respectful heart, that I will not be moving the geese.

No matter what you think about animal communication, I had 4 different people ask them what they want. They made it VERY clear they do not want to move. They understand the danger they are in. They were born wild and wish to remain where they are. So I am going to respect that.

At this point in time, I think it is best for people to step up and speak out at people who are being jack asses, for not obeying the law. We can NOT count on animal control to do anything. Get as much info as you can if see a dog off leash, pictures, videos. I understand people are scared but all I can do ask to be more vigilant for the geese.

If anyone ever sees one of these geese injured in ANYWAY. CALL ME Pamela 206-427-6454.

Seattle animal control, paws or sarvery WILL NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL. So don’t bother calling them.

Please do not poopoo me on the communication issues. For those of us people who are open to this will understand completely and NO I am not wussing out on rescuing them. It what they want.

I’ll be sad not to see the geese, but not as sad as I would have been had we lost them to a dog attack. Thank you to HH for taking action.

This does not solve the general problem, though; there are still seal pups, and less-charismatic park inhabitants, still facing constant threat.

My (partially) evil mind wants to make a tasteful but obvious sign to post down by the swings where our feathered friends were usually hanging out:

“In case you were wondering, the geese have been permanently relocated to a safe place, free of the molestations they have received from (illegal) off-leash dogs in recent months.”

    Just a thought…

I’d be tempted to add the Animal Control phone number at the bottom, too.

Good Luck Hammerhead and thank you for doing this. I will also miss the geese but hope they have a more peaceful retirement up North.
