5 things for the rest of your West Seattle Tuesday, + 3 geese

We often feature bird photos atop the daily calendar preview – and this time, it’s what now appears to have become a trio of white geese at Lincoln Park, where parkgoers long have noted two. Thanks to the person who texted us the photo!

Speaking of the beach – that’s where we start our short list of calendar highlights:

LOW TIDE AT 12:23 PM: The daytime low tides of summer are here! Today, tide is out to -2.5 feet at 12:23 pm. It’s season-debut day for Seattle Aquarium beach naturalists, who you’ll find at Constellation Park and Lincoln Park (near Colman Pool) until 1:30 pm.

SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS: District tournament play tonight for West Seattle High School, which took 2nd in the Metro League tournament – 5 pm game against Bellevue HS at SW Athletic Complex. (2801 SW Thistle)

WEST SEATTLE CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL: 7 pm at the Southwest Precinct; bring your neighborhood concerns/questions, hear about crime trends/stats, plus – wonder what the truth is about gangs? Tonight’s featured guests are billed as a panel of former gang members. (Webster/Delridge)

THE HELIO SEQUENCE AT EASY STREET: Free Easy Street Records in-store performance at 7 pm tonight in honor of The Helio Sequence‘s album release. (California/Alaska)

DINE OUT FOR HIGHLAND PARK ELEMENTARY: Until 9 pm, dine at Zippy’s Giant Burgers in White Center and a percentage of the proceeds benefits the Highland Park Elementary PTA. (9614 14th SW)

warms my heart! was down there a few weeks ago and didn’t see the two resident geese and thought that they had either flown the coop (preferred!) or had perhaps met up with a critter they couldn’t defend themselves against. nice to see their numbers increase.

Saw our new beach goose this morning. Although he appears content and part of a threesome, his head has a broad featherless patch. Hope the other two are being nice.

    Welcome goose 3!

Three geese, what great news! So glad to see this.

I’ve always wondered–do those geese live in the park or waddle home to a house nearby at night? If they live in the park, how do they escape the coyotes and raccoons?

Is the new goose a male or another female? Are Lincoln Park and Fauntleroy about to be overran in a few seasons with crushing goose density? Do we have enough nesting spaces per unit?

You check first. One of their predecessors almost bit the hand off my kid when he was a toddler (and that was a LONG time ago). I’ve given them wide berth ever since!

Did the third goose join them spontaneously or did they place an ad on Craig’s list?

Iowa country husband says bald spot is likely from mating behavior,”something to hang on to.” Therefore he’s betting new goose is female. I’ll take his word on it.

Saw the new 3rd goose for the first time this past Sunday! Much bigger than the other two I’ve seen a few times a week for several years, that I understand are a mated couple with eggs in their nest last year near the beach driftwood. When I saw them Sunday they were all pretty mellow, just standing together near the swings facing the water, with the new, big one in the center, so I just assumed he was a male interloper! I have only seen them be aggressive when kids or dogs run at them, brandishing sticks or rocks, etc, which is totally understandable defensive goose behavior in my book.

    Absolutely delightful!

Maybe the larger goose is an offspring that moved back home.

Sorry, comment time is over.
