The best thing to happen to President Obama for 2012 will be the “Pure Evil” (alinsky point) Republicans gaining power in the House and maybe the Senate.

He will have an actual enemy to blame and bash instead of paper tigers and Bush. I mean, really, for him and his administration to attack FOX News? Really? Does the first amendment mean so little. Is his skin so thin? If it wasn’t true it would be laughable.

Our favorite progressive, anti neo colonialist, liberation theology, narcissist, was untested and has made some strange and difficult decisions, while getting some major legislation passed. I would say he has done a good job of pissing off the right, independents and far left. I just hope his golf game has improved. He is out there enough.

Now, I readily admit I probably should have posted the link, but I have posted on here enough for most to know that I do not make claims lightly. But asking for proof is fine. Usually I use Mainstream media links to make points except for when I want to make a righty point to contrast leftist points.

Redblack, I never ever said the Federal Government should not spend our money. I just want them to be responsible in spending the top wage earners money (wink) and the rest of us peons hard earned cash. I think for quite a few issues, local makes more sense than national. Not always but I would prefer fighting or cajoling a politican in Seattle or Olympia instead of Washington.

Clarify for me please. Does not a VAT, tax each level of say a bullet train from raw materials through completion? I have heard a VAT hurts lower and middle class people.

I just do not agree with most of the progressive agenda, but I am glad for the highways we drive, certain consumer protections, our military and the average citizens who give way too much of themselves for our rights.

It takes all of us to keep this nation one of the best countries of opportunity. We can all contribute and I am fine giving a certain amount of my hard earned tax dollars to the city, county, state and federal government. All I am asking is that they be wise stewards with our tax dollars.

But the government cannot be our nanny or mommy. The government needs capital for all these agencies and programs. That is why every effort should be made to encourage business and encourage people to invest in us. We also need protections from scoundrels too. I am all for certain agencies policing our commerce and people within reason.

Our constitution and bill of rights were created to limit government. I don’t see that anymore. Who will spend less in DC? Rossi. And if he doesn’t he will need to get booted too.

I had a great experience with a West Seattle merchant yesterday.

I needed to replace a watch battery; it’s become more difficult over the years to find someone who will not only sell you the battery but install it.

Wyatt Jewelers has moved from their original location near Eats Cafe in Westwood Village; they are now in the stretch near Chico’s.

It seems they will replace your watch battery AND install the new one. For the product and this service, they only ask that you make a $10 donation to the White Center Food Bank. Really – they didn’t take anything at all for themselves.

I found myself writing a check for a little bit more than the amount requested AND thinking what a nicer place the world would be if everyone thought of something THEY could do to make it easier to do

something nice for someone else. I think we all have good intentions, we just often don’t make the time or take the trouble to find out what we can do that will make a difference.

Wyatt Jewelers is a local business that cares about their neighborhood and for that, I think they deserve OUR business.

I was driving home today around 6:30pm on Roxbury and did a double take when I saw someone waiting to cross the street going north at 30th SW. He was a larger guy, with curly blonde hair and a leashed RACCOON on his shoulders. The raccoon seemed perfectly happy to be chilling out on this guy’s back. Does anyone know his story? I’ve always found raccoons fascinating, but after reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” when I was a kid, I’ve had a healthy respect for them. As cuddly looking as they are, I think I would worry about having one as a pet.

I enjoyed reading everyone’s comments. I too have been trying to decide who would be a better fit. “He aint Heavey, He’s my brother!” hahaha.

I have to say I recieved a call from a Heavey phone banker and the older gentleman directed me to read the Seattle Times Endorsement of Heavey. I told him that I don’t agree with the Times very often and he laughed and agreed. He did point out that this year they endorsed Patty Murray, Suzan DelBene for congress, and Denny Heck who is running in congress for SW washington. All solid democrats and each one of their Op/Ed’s was dead on. I encourage you to read Heavey’s endorsement. It makes a compelling case that really when it comes to balancing the budget and protecting critical services Heavey has the experience and the independence to balance it with out being swayed by Olympia heavyweights (unions and business interests alike).

I support unions but I don’t agree with them 100% of the time. And I think Heavey can replicate the success that Dow has shown at the county to get the unions to come to the table.

I do like Fitzgibbon’s environmentalist support but I am cautious after doing some research and seeing the same coalitions that elected our current mayor are the same groups that are supporting Joe (ie SEIU Union, Cascade Bicycle Club, Sierra Club). Especially with him being so young a worry that he might be a lock step vote much like the mayor.

Plus I see on Heavey’s website he is endorsed by the Veterinarians Association, as a dog person I am impressed!

Nope, I’ve never even met the neighbors there. The spot is a last resort, and while a large car might not fit there, my small sports car fits just fine. Yeah I’m going to ask around to see if anyone saw anything.

On the issue of parking illegally: Parking in a disabled spot or in a tow away zone is much worse than say… parking an SUV in a compact space, parking 13″ from the curb, parking a little less than 5 feet from a driveway, parking a tricycle in a motorcycle parking only area, etc.

I agree with you Phil, people who blatantly park illegally wherever they go often seem to be arrogant and self-absorbed.

“I was not parked fully legally” means “I was parked illegally.” There’s not “partially legal” and “mostly legal” and “somewhat legal.” There’s legal and illegal. People who park illegally seem to me to be inconsiderate at best, blithely arrogant at worst. Parking is already a nightmare without people parking in random spots.

That rant aside, smashing someone’s windshield with a golf club on a vigilante quest is by far a worse crime and I hope they get found and prosecuted for damages (and undoubtedly lost wages, if you have to take time off work to get it repaired). Might ask some of your less aggressive neighbors (if you can figure out which ones) if they saw anything. Sucks, though :(

Could be injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter. Hesitation and/or dying are a result of fuel or air starvation. Fuel quality is kept within very strict guidelines and I’ve never heard of a fuel that was poor enough to cause engine troubles – some have more additives or more gunk left, but not so much as to cause measurable engine difficulties in the short term.

HMC, spot on. We started anticipating an Obama victory in October and made contingency plans accordingly. Once elected, those plans were put into place, so those “cool graphs” that supposedly illustrate “saved or created jobs” should attribute Nov 2008 – January 2009 job loss numbers to BO, imo.

as i keep saying ad nauseum, obama’s “tax hike” won’t affect small businesses. he’s reducing – and even eliminating – capital gains taxes for the little guy and maintaining or increasing taxes for the top 2% – because they can afford it. in other words, the president is trying to encourage the wealthy to invest in the economy instead of taking profits, which will be taxed at a higher rate if democrats can break republican road blocks or convince them to play along.

and i really couldn’t care less about wall street’s confidence. the middle class is learning to fare for itself without those clowns.

Oh Redblack. For the past two years the democratic party basically owned both houses of the congress. (Do I need to cite that to Dobro? ) Republican obstructionism? Pahh. The Republicans were and still are essentially powerless. It was fighting among Democrats that watered down certain bills. In fact most bi-partisanship came from Democrats siding with Republicans in NO votes. Why aren’t most Democrats proudly proclaiming how they voted instead of mudslinging and running away from Pork, Obamacare and other massive spending bills? All Boehner and McConnell could do is flap their lips and watch.

Really, passing 2300 page bills without reading them while Pelosi said “trust me”? Ridiculous. What if Republicans had done that?

What economic plan do you propose? Lets hear it. So far, I just see spend and spend. The Federal government is borrowing 37 cents on every dollar spent? How can you support that? Because it feels right or is meant to help the less fortunate? That is not reality.

That evil Bush guy caused the lowest wage earners to pay less in taxes. I guess he hated the little guy. I was against the Prescription drug plan but Democrats wanted twice as much spent. (Although just for fun I did defend it once on this blog just to be contrary).

Now, I said I would have supported infrastructure rebuilding. That is not really a huge concern for the current Executive Branch. I do not support wasteful temporary bandaids to larger problems that first Bush and then Obama pushed in the financial meltdown. Did unemployment stay below 8%? No. Has it gone down? No. Did the stimulus work, by most accounts no. Was healthcare really fixed? Probably not and it is already costing us. Did the unions benefit from the financial bailouts, Their unsustainable benefits have. Geez if Bush had taken over GM, cries of fascism would be resonating everywhere. Has Obama really dealt with entitlements? Not on your life.

And yes, where were the fiscally responsible Republicans? They were spending too much money just like their Democratic friends. They are getting booted. You are right, we who claim fiscal responsibility, We should have been more vocal and they were exorcised in 2006 and 2008, weren’t they. McCain was a joke but he wouldn’t have been bankrupting us (as much).

Little did people like me know that the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party would swoop in so quickly and start a new era of fiscal irresponsibility. I admit, I was surprised at what has transpired.

IT IS NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS JOB TO MANDATE HEALTH CARE. IT WILL BE FOUND UNCONSTITUTIONAL. It was meant to be dealt with by each individual state. Regulation is a different story. I want a health plan that involves the following. Children and Seniors, NO COST. 18 to 65, either a single payer system or true interstate access to health insurance. I must be evil. Giving free healthcare to some and making others pay.

OK Redblack, As far as tax rates, First I would see what the cost of government is. I would cut some spending and make cuts in some areas and kill some departments or agencies. I believe taxes would fall somewhere between 15 and 25 percent. I would abolish all loopholes. State and local taxes would take another 10 to 15%. Live within a budget. In fact I am more in favor of a higher state tax burden than federal. I believe local is better than national. I also believe that the government should not be entitled to more than 30% of anyones income. What do you propose?

Someone was bitching about the military. Under Kennedy Military spending was a whopping 42%, Reagan 22% and under Bush 17%. Over 50 years, Military spending has decreased from 42% to 17%. Jan, interesting video but it is flawed. I will admit debt went up in the Reagan and Bush years. But Congress reneged its pledge to keep spending down under Reagan because he phased in his tax cuts over 3 years, and W hardly vetoed any bill after 9/11. Plus Clinton had a relatively fiscally responsible congress which convinced him the era of big government is over. Supply side economics cannot work if too much is spent. So if that makes you right then you are right. But the Keynesian model is not better unless you like stagnant or little growth.

Interesting conclusion. Let us clarify a few things. Extending the Bush tax cuts will allow tax rates to stay the same. Not much of anything will change. There would not be any NEW growth incentives. It would not be a tax cut. If not extended it would become Obama’s tax hike and it will affect everyone.

Allowing those tax rates to expire will hurt business confidence and stifle job creation. Confidence in the economy will shrink even more. Conversely when the business sector had confidence under Reagan and Clinton, we had some pretty good times and people were hired.

Small businesses hire the majority of the workers. Businesses cut staff even before actual revenue declines just from speculative economic downturns or major negative events (9/11)

For example, a few years ago I saw an article about Starbucks. They were going to cut some stores and jobs despite the fact that they were going to make (the exact numbers escape me) 63 million profit for that quarter? or year? which was a decline in projected numbers. Because projected revenues were less than anticipated the business took steps to minimize possible future losses in case the economy weakened more. If only government would act in such a way.

The sales staff I worked with a few years ago were deeply affected just because business confidence was low and budgets were excruciatingly reduced. In fact some people lost their jobs because the company I worked for did not make their goals.

So when Smitty said Oct/Nov of 2008, he was correct because once we knew Obama was the man and the financial meltdown started, executives went into cutback mode. During our current financial and economic recession, the only area where we have seen real growth has been in government jobs. Somehow that just doesn’t seem right to me.

Reductions in capital gains helps businesses and consumers. Obama wants to raise that rate and bring the death tax to 55%!!!

Such moves do not inspire confidence for the business sector. Couple that with upcoming health care costs which are already rising, you have a recipe for a minimalist recovery and possibly another recession.

Lowering tax rates at various times has spurred revenue to come into the federal government coffers. Kennedy, Reagan, Bush. Spending needs to be curtailed by our politicians.

Redblack, supply side economics did not cause other economic downturns throughout our history. Bad business and bad government have caused most of our problems. But wealth creation has also flourished under the free market system more so than any other. I salute the risk the small business owner takes.

JoB…I have a hard time believing problems can be solved within the system that generated them (or even by actively resisting the system – better to tune out, drop out, create a functional subculture with a different paradigm)…but I’d love to be wrong. Care to elaborate on any successes? What works?
