Robert2715ParticipantI filled up on October 17th with I think the medium grade (which is a mixture of regular and premium) and over the past couple of days my Toyota Highlander has had some engine “issues” for lack of a better term. Anyone have similar experience?

bsmommaParticipantWhat kind of issues? I have noticed a “burning” smell. But nothing other than that.

Robert2715ParticipantEngine has seemed a little hesitant since the fuel up and this morning the engine turned off while my wife was driving downtown. It just got a scheduled service a few weeks ago and all of this did seem to happen right after the fuel up, but who knows – could be a fluke – was just seeing if anyone else noticed anything after getting gas at Safeway.

bsmommaParticipantI haven’t noticed anything like that happening to my car as of now. Maybe check for any recalls. I had a Lexus (made by Toyota) that started hesitating and would just shut off……….ON THE FREEWAY! Then the engine caught on fire. Oil Sludge. Was part of a mass re-call and they gave me a check for the value of my car.

celeste17ParticipantI had this happen to me in my Honda Accord once and I put a bottle of Gas additive in the tank and then next time I filled up I used a higher quality of gas and never had a problem. You could just have settlement or a little water in the tank that worked its way through the system,

BigPhilParticipantCould be injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter. Hesitation and/or dying are a result of fuel or air starvation. Fuel quality is kept within very strict guidelines and I’ve never heard of a fuel that was poor enough to cause engine troubles – some have more additives or more gunk left, but not so much as to cause measurable engine difficulties in the short term.

dhgParticipantI was filling up at Admiral Safeway for more than a year, always premium gas, but then tried the more expensive premium across the street after a few posts here. The first tank did about 5% better, the 2nd tank, 8% and then it topped out at doing 10 – 12% better on Shell than on Safeway gas. I’m thinking there really is a difference.

BonnieParticipantMy husband had this happen when he gassed up at 7-11 a few weeks ago. He added a gas additive to it and it’s okay now.
