We’re having a banner month already (1st time with more than three-quarters-of-a-million pageviews 2 months in a row) so certainly not doing it for the traffic. But there was too much talk not to go really deep with the research. Anyway, gotta get back to the stories I have to publish first before I can finish that one!

The charlabobs finally got to Eness last night (all reservations for Lifelong Aids dinner at Fresh Bistro were taken — so we decided it was time to try the new place in our favorite location.)

The goat cheese and apple salad was amazing and bob got the seafood lasagna which was also amazing — delightful subtle blend of flavors.

Khadidja came to talk to us and was very receptive to both our praise and our suggestions. The charlabobs are both notoriously opinionated — if you ask, we’ll tell. Bob is much more cosmopolitan — Charla is much more opinionated, so it works out.

We definitely look forward to our next visit.

Oh, I agree completely. I’m just saying, there seems to be a glut of people these days who don’t want to take their time and enjoy a good meal and the atmosphere. That’s all.

zgh, while I can definitely appreciate “dining” and not being rushed through a meal, I would say my experiences with Revo were a lot slower than that – being seated and waiting 10 minutes for a menu or glass of water is not “dining,” but being overlooked and/or staff being overwhelmed. Plus, there is a way for waitstaff to be available to you without hovering over you – long periods of time went by with no one coming anywhere near to our table to enable us to ask for something.

learnnlove…not exactly fair to allude to “rumors” on here. Either tell it straight or don’t bring it up. It’s not fair to the business, if what you think you know isn’t true.

Does this have anything to do with the drunken person who had to be removed from the dugout by the police before a game? The same person who managed to cut them self pretty badly and then proceed to bleed all over the dugout? This didn’t sound like a safe place for the kids to be. I have heard this story from two sources in the last week.

We use the magazine exchange at the WS and Delridge branches all the time, so are sorry to hear of the plans to end it at WS. (BTW, it has nothing to do with the library’s periodical subscriptions. It’s just a shelf where people can bring recent magazines and leave them for others to take.) The shelf at the WS branch has been on the inside right side of the divider between the front door and the desk. The one at Delridge is also to the right immediately after entering the door. They’re usually quite neat, although sometimes the offerings are pretty esoteric (alumni magazines) or outdated. WS branch has a “comment/request” book on the front desk just after the checkout … it would be a good place to express interest in keeping the exchange (in addition to or in lieu of speaking to the staff). Thanks for the heads up, Wes.

We bounce between Alki Cafe, Fresh Bistro and Chelan Cafe. Chelan may not be as good food-wise as the first two, but it’s cheap eats. :)

Circa is the best breakfast in the Admiral neighborhood by far. Tried Heartland Cafe last weekend (was hoping for good things) – and it was so so. Bummer.

Endolyne Joes in Faunt is good.

I am checking to see if anyone in West Seattle is interested in a special private picnic cruise on Saturday for the famous and historic Opening Day Boat Parade on Montlake Cut. You will be riding in style on a beautifully restored classic yacht built in 1928.

We would leave early in the morning from West Seattle and cruise across Elliot Bay, through the locks, and up the ship canal to the parade staging area on Portage Bay. We will then wait with the other classic boats for our time to go through the parade route where you can wave to all the funny people onshore who came out to watch.

After we parade through the Montlake Cut, we will cruise a little on Lake Washington until they open the channel to westbound traffic, then we will motor back through the locks and home to West Seattle.

This will be an all day cruise full of fun and excitement. I can take up to six people. You can bring all the food and drink you want plus your cameras. If you waned to dress in costume for the parade, that’s ok too – but it’s not required since we are in the antique boat class – because we’re special :). You can see more about the parade at http://www.seattleyachtclub.org. If you have never been in a parade before, this is your chance to claim your fifteen minutes of fame!

We must depart by 7:00 AM to make sure we get to the parade on time. We will return sometime between 5 and 6 (best guess).

You can see the boat at: http://www.cedarwave.com. We will be taking the M/V Allure.

The special price for this special Seattle Opening Day event cruise is $450 (that’s only $75 per person if you have six people).

If you don’t want to cruise all the way back to West Seattle in the afternoon with me, I can drop you off at South Lake Union.

Call me ASAP if you want to book this cruise: 206-355-0133

Funny ideas. I had neighbors once that woke me up every morning about 5 am playing games with their infant. The infant was making high pitched noises and it penetrated through the windows between our house. I did talk to the neighbors in a polite way. They were extremely offended, told me they had it much worse because the infant woke them several times in the night, and were very cold to us after that discussion. They also continued the loud play at 5 am. In hindsight I wish I had not brought it up. I invested in some ear plugs and a fan to dull the noise.

So many good options! For regular breakfast, albeit a hearty one, I like Skylark a lot. Love that I can get good French toast and bacon with nothing else for around $7.00. Also have heard good things about Easy Street, but have always been scared off by the wait.

Brunch? Love JaK’s and Spring Hill. Been meaning to try Fresh Bistro. Also, EATS Market Cafe does good food, but the service was just too slow the times I’ve been for breakfast/brunch. Last time was about a year back and my husband and I were waited on after two other groups who were actually seated after us, which was frustrating.

Hi All…With the offer being extending indefinitely, there was a slight change to the pricing. [My apologies for any confusion]. Here is the correction:

The full price for spaying (female cats) or neutering (male cats)is $90 each. This special offer is $90.00 for two cats, regardless of gender. Quality surgery at an afforable cost!

Please remember: Don’t litter; neuter your critter.

It’s nice to see advocates of “dining” for a change. Too often is the conversation about how long one had to wait for something at “X” restaurant. So much attention toward instant gratification.

It’s good to slow down a meal and enjoy the surroundings. McDonald’s will still be there if you want fast food ;)

    Hangover, by Billy Collins

If I were crowned emperor this morning,

every child who is playing Marco Polo

in the swimming pool of this motel,

shouting the name Marco Polo back and forth

    Marco Polo Marco Polo

would be required to read a biography

of Marco Polo-a long one with fine print-

as well as a history of China and of Venice,

the birthplace of the venerated explorer

    Marco Polo Marco Polo

after which each child would be quizzed

by me then executed by drowning

    regardless how much they managed

to retain about the glorious life and times of

    Marco Polo Marco Polo

As many may know already, the Heartland Cafe has late night breakfast served from 11pm to 3:30am on Friday and Saturday nights.

We are currently accepting resumes and applications for cooks and a server for these shifts.

For the cook position it is a true graveyard shift with alot of prep for the weekend involved. For the server, you must be willing to commit to the shift and help grow it! This can be very profitable for the right person!

Both positions require prior breakfast experience.

please forward resumes to matthew.heartland@gmail.com or stop by and fill out an application… we are located at 4210 admiral way. please , no phone calls.

    Speaking a Foreign Language

How clumsy on the tongue, these acquired idioms,

after the innuendos of our own. How far

we are from foreigners, what faith

we rest in one sentence, hoping a smile will follow

on the appropriate face, always wallowing

between what we long to say and what we can,

trusting the phrase is suitable to the occasion,

the accent passable, the smile real,

always asking the traveller’s fearful question—

what is being lost in translation?

Something, to be sure. And yet, to hear

the stumbling of foreign friends, how little we care

for the wreckage of word or tense. How endearing they are,

and how our speech reaches out, like a helping hand,

or limps in sympathy. Easy to understand,

through the tangle of language, the heart behind

groping toward us, to make the translation of

    syntax into love.

I chatted with the owner at the farmers market a few weeks ago. She’s regularly open for lunch on Sundays after the farmers market. Aside from that it seems like it’s catch her when you can. She said that, while she isn’t often open late enough for dinner, she’s very happy if people call and say they’d like to come for dinner; she’ll stay open and prepare a meal. I haven’t taken her up on that yet.
