“solar-powered, high-altitude drones – or giant balloons is best and the greenest way to get internet.
    Cell towers are obsolete!

    ****************************
Advances in solar-cell and battery technology have made those technologies more feasible. Last month, Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank Corp said it would partner with California drone maker AeroVironment Inc to build a drone capable of flying to the stratosphere, hovering around an area for months and serving as a floating cell tower to beam Internet to users on Earth. Airbus and Boeing Co are also working on their own versions of high-flying, solar-powered drones.”

Brendan, your photo ID pass is at the Westwood post office, found around 14th & Cambridge. Also, if you lost a single key on a carabiner, I may know where that is also.

ValVashon–I think KCTS is even lower around 21.x kW. Ive been on Rabbit Ears all week for projects so my brain might be scrambled at this point :-)

I have found that not only moving the antenna works, but honestly the weather and time of year matter too! It’s always a minor miracle when KCTS comes in. I ended up getting the PBS video app on my phone and cast to the TV since antenna reception is so hit and miss.

I’m in Admiral District and noticed it sometimes just goes out for hours (at least) at a time. All of the 9.1-9.4 channels.

KCTS broadcasts on VHF channel 9- many “HD” antennas are designed to pick up only UHF channels so your antenna may not be designed to pick up VHF channels. KCTS’s license info has disappeared from the FCC website so I can’t check to see how much power they are running but I seem to remember it was around 25KW or so, which is actually not much power at all. KSTW is also broadcasting from Capitol Hill on VHF channel 11 with 100KW of power- if they don’t come in then you definitely have an antenna problem. For best results, especially in the Lincoln Park area, I would go with an outdoor antenna. Two more things- KCTS does not have any translator stations so no hope there and if you aim your antenna south you might be able to pick up KBTC from Tacoma on RF27 (will show as 28). Their signal might find its way up Puget Sound to your area.

Have you tried locating it in a different area of your home, playing with the distance of it from your windows? Low E glass does affect antennas, depending on the type of window you have. KCTS’s transmitter is also on Capitol Hill and I’m not sure of any repeater locations, which also might be a challenge. I’m not OTA at the moment, but KCTS was a tricky signal for me in Westwood as well. Bremerton’s KCPQ was always the strongest. Seattle can be a tough terrestrial market.

A Rant about the management at WWV’s Desert Sun Tanning Salon…yesterday after work I stopped by to start getting a little glow for our vacation coming up in July well the girl that works there was in her car leaving she rolls down her window and says “sorry we’re closed” this is at 3pm and then she explains to me that the person that was to come in for the next shift called and said they “didn’t want to work” so she called her boss and he/she said “if you don’t stay you’re fired”. She then told me that she has a 2nd job that she needed to get to and that she needs to work the 2 job just to get by and that her boss knows this but he/she fired her anyways. Couldn’t he/she had asked her to stay just until they could get cover to come in or themselves come in???!!!
She is telling me all of this crying her eyes out. I called their Corporate Office from home and told them how disgusted I was in how this was handled and all they said was “we’re sorry you had to experience that” and oh you can go visit our West Seattle location. SMH with disgust.
WOW have you ever heard anything so mean?

Finally somebody else noticed and said it! Prius drivers are totally the worst! Anytime I see a Prius I give it a wide berth these days. No signals, pulling out without looking and now with the Lyft/Uber menace it’s getting worse. Just stopping in the middle of the road is not OK- we don’t care that you are making less than minimum wage and are trying to squeeze in as many fares in a day as you can.

My personal opinion is the strong electromagnetic fields present in a Prius due to the hybrid drive system is messing with the driver’s mental abilities.

Vanessa, I agree that it’s confirmation bias but let’s not take it as far as your generalizations. They’ve already discussed the fact that Prius cars are the go-to car in the ride-sharing pool, so it’s perfectly normal to see a Prius and assume it’s a Lyft or Uber (or even a taxi). As a pedestrian, I agree that any car can and likely has a driver that wants to run me over. As a Lyft user, I think about half of my drivers have been safe, calm drivers and the other half drive just as aggressively as any insane taxi driver.

People so paranoid about “security” in this country and they spend so much money just to protect the false sense of “security”
No cameras in pubic but when the is a crime involved, they cry foul where the security.
No wonder business plays the “fear” factor.
Every human being has the same biological needs…so there is nothing to hide behind the masks.
