I just feel that as a private business it is their responsibility to pay for enhancements if they choose to add them. I shop at Nordstroms and sometimes don’t like what I see. Does the store ask for customers to pay for enhancements so we will shop there? No.. I go somewhere else or Norstroms pays for them.

I wonder if that ”enhancement fee” is just a means, on the part of the gym(s), to compensate for the “deals” they give to join and sign a contract for a year, or whatever?

I’ve never been a member of a gym, so am not familiar with their pricing structure, or any of the “small print”, other than the passing glance I may give an ad for a gym on TV.

Back before I got a smart TV and was having to pay the cable company in our area for both TV and internet, among the annoying fees shown in the itemization of my monthly bill was a “Regional Sports Network Fee” that had been around $5.00/mo for awhile. By the time I got the new TV 15 months ago, it at some point gone up to $8.50/mo, IIRC.

Although I was annoyed by all of the rest of the hidden fees, I really resented that one as I don’t watch any of the sports networks since I don’t care about sports, and usually mute the TV when the sports reports and game recaps come up on local news.

I know I wouldn’t be very happy as a gym member, to be soaked $56 or $60 (or *any* amount) if I never made any special requests.

I had pertussis as a child( before vaccine) and was in the hospital for 3 weeks. I almost died. Because of it I now have Lung and respitory problems. I don’t see any good reason not to vaccinate a child from this sickness. Live in my shoes one or two winters and you’ll understand why a parent should do it.

The gym I belong to also charges an enhancement fee, I think it’s $60. But there is no joining fee.

I belong to a local gym that has a yearly fee I don’t remember having to pay and I wondered if other gums do this. Bedides the joining fee and the monthly membership fee they also have a $56 ” enhancement fee”. This is to cover the changes that members request and updates to facilities. As a private owned profit business is this not their responsibility? Do other gyms do this? Maybe I am just naive. Please let me know if this is standard.

I have noticed something in the West Seattle neighborhood and that is some people do not have the means of transporting, picking up things for lack of a pickup truck, I have recently retired ( disabled ) and have a pickup truck, and time and a need to supplement My meager SSI, so for gas money and a donation I am available for local assistance. Message me. :) I should make clear that you pay for the dump, If enough people need a dump run and the total weight is under 420 lb’s we can pool it for the 32 dollar fee, also I am doing runs to the local donation sites, this is more about me driving then loading and unloading if I were able to do that I would be able to have a job. Little stuff ok. :) you can e-mailme at nkunnap575@comcast.net

You might try dropping into Meeples Games, I know they organize DnD sessions and I’d imagine others are looking to play too. I play with some friends but we’ve been struggling to set up time together lately.

Now if we could just get people who ride the bus to show some respect and concern for others by either staying home when they’re sick, or wearing a mask if they absolutely must take the bus. Most of the time people just hack and snort, which is both disgusting and dangerous, without even bothering to cover. Yuck.

Just want to give everyone a heads up that a vaccinated student at Madison Middle School just tested positive for pertussis. The parent was hyper-alert and had the test done when a “normal” mild cold abruptly turned into a barking cough just four days after onset of symptoms. To everyone’s surprise, the test came back positive. This early diagnosis allowed the student to start antibiotics promptly, which will both protect the community and minimize the severity of the symptoms.

According to the CDC “Vaccinated children and adults can become infected with and spread pertussis; however, disease is typically much less serious in vaccinated people.” (Source: https://www.cdc.gov/pertussis/fast-facts.html) Given that more than 99% of pertussis cases go undiagnosed (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5085009/), there may be 100 people in the larger West Seattle area who have pertussis.

Please spread the word. The vaccine helps, but we need a strong second line of defense. To protect newborns, please keep ALL coughs away from babies and pregnant people in their third trimester. If you are a primary caregiver for a newborn and develop a cough, please inform your medical provider that there is a documented case of pertussis in West Seattle. Early use of antibiotics can stop the progression of pertussis. For newborns, that can save lives. For everyone else, it means less illness, and a much shorter contagious period.

    Hello Seattle homeschoolers!

I have a 13-year-old daughter whom I need to take out of public school due to medical issues (which are not externally visible nor contagious in any way :-). We are looking for a mom with a middle school-aged girl with whom to join forces. I am currently between jobs but am looking and thus am hoping to find a family who will allow her to share their space.

    About us:
My daughter Ariana is a very sweet and kind girl (in fact, too kind to others and not kind enough to herself) who is academically focused. I have a degree in education and am comfortable finding and adjusting a curriculum for her. My daughter is very creative, fun, artsy, analytical, and fairly non-athletic. She is introverted and has a sensitivity to loud noises and big spaces but very social and friendly.

We live in Burien and currently attend school in West Seattle. We are completely secular and focused on academic success. I am currently working on PSAT 8/9 prep with her and a friend and would be happy to share this curriculum as well.

If you’re interested, please contact me and let’s find out if we’re compatible. Any help from the community is appreciated!

West Seattle Endodontics is looking for a fabulous new front office receptionist to join our team! This is an awesome place to work with two very kind dentists, a lovely gentleman as our office manager, and three fun dental assistants.

The office is locally owned (both docs live in West Sea) and boutique-style. We take good care of our patients and treat them like family. Sadly, one of our front office team members is leaving to go back to school, pursuing her dream. (Sad for us, but happy for her) So we are beginning the search for her replacement.

The most important thing about this job is a friendly, positive attitude and kind personality. We would love it if you had dental insurance experience, since it can get complicated – but we can also train. You would be answering phones, scheduling patients, organizing charts, checking on insurances, etc.

If you are interested or know someone who may be, please send a cover letter and resume to drcohen@westseattleendodontics.com or fax to 206-937-6223. You can also call us at 206-937-1010.

I just heard from Markham McIntyre — executive director of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee, Civic Alliance for a Sound Economy (CASE) — that he has removed the photo of me from the Phil Tavel TV ad. For this much I am grateful. –Clay

For the public record, I wish to state that contrary to a TV ad that apparently is using a photo of me without my permission, I have not endorsed Phil Tavel candidate for Seattle City Council District 1. Below is a clarifying statement issued by Tavel:

    Independent Expenditure Distracting Voters

I was notified this past Friday morning by West Seattle resident Clay Eals, former executive director of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society, that a photo of him and me was used in a TV ad that supports my candidacy and that aired on television last week.

Clay contacted me because he was concerned that the use of the photo incorrectly implies an endorsement of my District 1 City Council campaign, and so am I. “I have strictly stayed away from endorsing any candidates for public office because of my longtime association with the Southwest Seattle Historical Society, which, as a nonprofit organization cannot endorse candidates for public office,” says Clay.

This was in no way an endorsement by Clay of either me or my campaign. The photo was taken after Clay made a presentation on May 15, 2019, to the Rotary Club of West Seattle about “Seattle Now & Then: The Historic Hundred,” a recent book by Paul Dorpat and Jean Sherrard for which Clay served as an editor. I posted the photo to my campaign Facebook page and it appeared with a caption that was approved by Clay.

I myself did not use the photo in a TV ad for my campaign. A Political Action Committee supporting my campaign apparently pulled the photo from my campaign’s Facebook page and used it in a TV ad that aired last week. I have no control over such ads, as these things are done independently from the campaign. I want to make sure that anybody who sees the ad knows that it was not an endorsement by Clay.

    Phil Tavel

Keep up the well rounded selections…there seems to be something for everybody! And, patrons, leave your phone screens turned OFF during films!!!
