They were right down the street from us and we’re just west of Fauntleroy Park (the pocket park on 97th). Scared the bejeezus out of the dog, woke both of my children, and just pissed me off. I am sick and was half asleep. Whoever you are, glad your team won, but could you maybe not make the rest of us suffer for your pleasure?

I don’t have a specific recommendation for you but I do have a few suggestions. First I’d check with my son’s doctor and speak to him/her and get recommendations from them or have them point you in the right direction for resources.

    .

Is this for the long-term? Do you have health insurance? If so, you could probably go to their website and look up therapists who are in your network. You can sort by location, specialty, gender, accepting new patients, etc. You could even phone your ins company and have them mail you a list.

    .

If you don’t have insurance then you could research online for someone and ask them about a sliding scale fee. You could also check out what services are available at your son’s school and maybe he could see a counselor there, or you could ask them for recommendations for family counselors.

    .

Please don’t get discouraged; it can be daunting at times finding the right ‘fit’ of a therapist for your son and/or family.

    .

Lots of teens ‘see’ someone so it’s not a big deal in that respect, so having that attitude while moving forward will help your son and family.

    .

I hope I helped a bit. I find most people don’t really know how to get started. Good luck.

Now that I think back, 2-3 yrs. ago when the first Triple Play came out, I paid $140 for promo, Which they extended maybe 3 Mo.?, a couple times then it went to $170. At that time we had the free wireless internet come into our building. I went back to just cable because it and phone were expensive. Saved money by changing phone and using wireless. Service got worse and worse and hated it from beginning. Main connection is on 1st floor with 4 floors, booster on each end of upper floors. I,m only 2 doors from where the booster is installed but… I’m around a corner in the hallway and got so I was off more than on. Manager said she thought she was doing us a good thing when she had it installed, didn’t know it would be such a hassle Several residents have quit use. Would lose signal in the middle of bank statement or transaction. In the end I’m back where I started the 1st time around. Its just that the initial bill was so high when wasn’t the first time around.

As far as payments, never had an issue with them. Rarely have a problem with payment and if fall short of full payment, never hear from them. I’m in good standing there. Refuse to do it online.

Sometimes we all have to vent:)

Except that’s not really commentary. Quoting a few lines of prose in a book review, summarizing the results of a recent scientific research for a report, etc. That’s commentary as there’s a public benefit to that, not just two friends privately sharing some sunset images they didn’t create. There’s no “transformative” purpose to the latter. I disagree that there is a difference between a commodity created by a baker and that created by a photographer. If I choose not to mind if strangers want to share a few slices of my bread among themselves that is up to me. But I’m not about to be cavalier about telling people they are free to take and eat someone else’s bread.

The fair use doctrine has been fairly hammered but still stands. You can send a photo to someone without violating the copyright laws. It should go without saying that anyone who posts anything online should be aware of the copyright laws, know the source of the photo, and have proper permissions to make use of it. But personal use, including sending a photo to someone to say look, how beautiful, is expressly legal under the fair use doctrine.

Thank you Goodgraces for the validation.

    UPDATE:

I just spoke to Sunny Robertson, the new Aquatics Dir. and she apologized for not posting the changes and for the lifeguard not being fully versed in the reason for the changes.

Appearently the National Medical Board for the YMCA has recommended no child under the age of 12 be allowed in any Hot Area facilities – even the hot tub. I personally disagree with this – but if they change the rules and POST those changes I will respect their right to set their own rules and determine if the facility still meets my needs accordingly.

    Slightly off-topic:

I am feeling “lowest common denominator-ed out” – My children can’t go into the hot area because some people MIGHT let their kids stay too long and that is a health risk. My oldest can’t bring any food into her classroom that has nuts, eggs, dairy or gluten because some children have allergies and …my kid’s food might fly into their mouth? They’re 9! They know if they’re allergic and (hopefully) are way past the stage of putting everything they see in their mouths…smh.

Maybe no humans “allowed and enabled this senseless waste of life.” For the Pets page, we get multiple reports weekly of cats getting out, and while I have had indoor cats all my life, also believing personally that they should live inside, a couple of them got out because of somebody’s unintentional mistake (at least once, it was mine, 25 years ago, when I forgot to slide the window closed before going out for a bit, and my beloved cat Ariel tore through the screen, something I’d never seen her even try to do – we looked around for hours, finally took a tearful break, and she came back in through the screen hole with a “present” for me, a bug).

Our current cat shows no interest in even trying to so much as approach the door, but I have seen others that are relentless in their attempts.

Please, after such a kind and caring post, don’t throw in angry assumptions. Thanks – TR

Riley lost his best cat buddy a month ago and his owner’s job required her to move to another country. I am currently taking care of Riley until I can find forever home for him.

Riley is a sweet 4yo neutered indoor male cat. Who loves his toy mouse and is crazy for cat nip.

He’s an affectionate cat who likes to come up for some cuddles, but isn’t too keen on being a lap cat.

Riley was very bonded to his buddy / brother-from-another-mother Mordred, and needs a home where he can have an older alpha cat (preferable male) tell him what to do and give him comfort.

Riley isn’t too sure about guys as he has always been around women.

Riley has been an indoor cat most of his life and would do best continuing as an indoor cat or having limited outdoor access.

To view pictures and learn a bit more http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pet/4222355225.html

*adoption fee is just to make sure applicants are serious. He will be free for his forever home.

If you are interested in providing this special guy a forever home, please email me at sagek77@gmail.com or call 206-422-9901 to arrange a time to meet him.

I cleaned out the garage and have stuff to get rid of: four boxes of dark flooring (Brazilian walnut), one box of light colored laminate flooring, and some Pioneer and Kenwood stereo components. I was asking $20 for the components but I just want to get rid of them so they’re yours for the taking. The flooring too! Here are the CL ads with pictures and details:

For the past two years we’ve gotten our turkey from the Swinery. They sell heritage, free-range, fresh, no-chemical birds. Pricier than your average grocery store turkey, but THE BEST we’ve ever tasted. Seriously.

I think strobe at lower location to get attention but solid light too to allow driver to determine distance. I appreciate that strobes make you pay attention but given that both vehicles are in motion, an additional aid to immediately locate the cyclist is extremely helpful. The strobe is slightly disorienting but I very much appreciate its primary purpose. Reflective clothing is so necessary. Who do so many cyclists and peds wear black? Like a group of itinerant mimes.

Hi! Glad you’re going. We’ll be there to cover the local participants as usual. But I’m a parade fan even in off-hours. Anyway, if nobody else has advice (it’s slow in the forum on holidays and weekends), here’s the Metro trip planner:

    http://tripplanner.kingcounty.gov/

Note that buses will be on a “reduced weekday/no UW” schedule on Friday.

    http://metro.kingcounty.gov/alerts/holidays.html

Any reroutes because of the parade are listed here:

    http://metro.kingcounty.gov/alerts/

.. if you are interested in a particular bus route, scroll through there to check to make sure it’s not affected. RapidRide, for example, does not appear to be.

You have a wide choices of places to get off the bus downtown – given the parade route, which is in this story we published the other day:

West Seattle holidays: WSHS, Sealth bands in Friday’s parade downtown

    Have fun!

A cyclist just can’t get a break can they? Not even for trying to make themselves MORE visible so they don’t, say, get hit by a driver claiming to have not seen them.

    1) automobile light are incredibly blinding if stared directly at. I could claim that those are blinding so they shouldn’t be used on city streets.

    2) personally, when encountering a cyclist with a flash front light, I don’t look at the light. Never had any problems.

    3) from years of riding experiences, I use a front flash on streets, solid when on a dark trail, and a solid helmet beam. A rear flash and reflector on the back along with lots of reflective tape. I have drivers notice me more, IMHO, with that flash. It immediately reads ‘cyclist.’

    4) when cyclists stop being condemned for doing all they can to not be hit; for taking a lane, to what lights they use/don’t use, for the clothing colors of choice, to helmet choices, and even stop getting hit at all THEN I would maybe consider not using a front flash on the street.

Thanks for your concern about my safety. Hope you continue to never drive over the speed limit, roll through a stop sign, slow down and prepare for a stop at each yellow light and yield to all pedestrians and cyclists at each legal intersection crossing.

I have a steady beam headlight, a red flashing tail light and a round slow flashing light that’s visible from the side.

Every time I’ve been hit ot nearly HIT by a car was when I was going through a controlled intersection and a car approaching on the right didn’t see me. Since I’ve had the slow 360 flash, it hasn’t happened.

I like your approach, add! I, too, am tired of the Obamacare debates. As far as brokers, I enthusiastically recommend Dan Maizel (danmaizel@gmail.com). Phone: (206) 232-1882

Cell: (206) 388-9684 He’s on Mercer Island, but his schedule is pretty flexible, as far as I can tell. He is very knowledgeable. In fact, I found out about him through a recommendation on the Blog about a year ago.

Wakeflood, I swear, so many people I know lost pets last week…myself included, as I had to put my 18-year-old (near as we can figure) cat to sleep. I’m thankful for Dr. Gomez from the West Seattle Animal Hospital who was so kind and compassionate and offered to come to my house on her day off for the purpose. (And to the hospital, who saved this cat’s life twice during his life with me!)

I’m thankful for my husband, my friends, and for financial security, and for the means and ability to pursue creative goals that aren’t ever likely to be terribly remunerative, but which I’d find life pretty unbearable without.

Mostly I’m thankful to be in a position to help friends who need it. For whatever reason a lot of my friends are having incredibly tough times right now, and I’ve been lucky. (If I had a superpower, it would simply be to have good luck, and be able to transfer that luck to others.)

Shoofly did (does) have apple pies for walk-in customers. My daughter and I were having a little day out together, and stopped in to get a slice of pie after lunch, today. They didn’t have anything in the case except boxed pre-orders with customer names, but also a variety (pumpkin, apple, shoofly, pecan…) available to sell. Picked up an apple and a shoofly (dark chocolate pecan was sold out. darn!) to share tomorrow afternoon.

Actually, flashing headlights ARE, in fact, illegal in Washington. Tail lights on bikes are OK to flash though.

Here’s the reference from RCW 46.37.280:

“(3) Flashing lights are prohibited except as required in RCW 46.37.190, 46.37.200, 46.37.210, 46.37.215, and 46.37.300, warning lamps authorized by the state patrol, and light-emitting diode flashing taillights on bicycles”

I agree the article had some overblown descriptions of the hazard, but the fact these newer lamps can get extremely bright is the issue of concern.

A person wearing reflective clothing or using a warning light at reasonable brightness is obviously a good thing.

Seriously? The inflammatory article states “strobing and flashing headlights, shine straight into the eyes of motorists and other cyclists, transfixing them with disco-ball distraction.” We’re not zombies or idiots that become instantly hypnotized when a person on a bike rides by with a flashing light. Let’s see, how many times have I wrecked my car because I was transfixed by a disco ball? Let me think. . . . hmmmmmm. . . oh yeah, that’s right, NEVER.

I applaud folks that take the precautions necessary to protect themselves and others. When they start shooting laser beams into my pupils I’ll be concerned but until then. . . . meh.

Also, the article states they are illegal yet sites nothing making them illegal. It states that “Codes in Seattle and Washington State require only a front headlight that is visible from at least 500 feet away and a red rear reflector; a red taillight is an acceptable addition but no substitute for the reflector.” That doesn’t mean having more light is illegal – it just provides a minimum level.

Geez, I wanted to write something funny, but Wake got me turned around.

I am thankful for the nine wonderful years our family member and 140lb American Tundra Shepard gave my family and me.

Nine years ago, we rescued a dog from a shelter in Las Vegas. He was estimated to be between three and four years old at the time we adopted him. At a little over a year old, he was dropped off to a shelter that was overcrowded with pitbulls. In a kennel with three other pitbulls, he was packed up on and mauled. The pits tore up his throat, shattered his two front legs, damaged his ears, and his eyes. However, he managed to fight the dogs off long enough to be helped by staff. He fought so much, that one of the pitbulls injuries were so severe, the pitbull had to be put down. However, our champ was not out of the woods himself. Critically injured, staff had to make the call of putting him down too. With volunteer vets onsite, they elected to help him fight. For six months, several local Las vegas vets volunteered their time to help him recover. He bounced around to foster homes and made a full recovery earning him the name “Tough Guy”.

Tough Guy ended up at a nicer shelter in Vegas and was ready for adoption. He ended up going to a man who kept him for a month. The man returned Tough Guy to the shelter claiming he had food aggression. This is where my family come in.

My wife and I were looking at adopting a German Shepard. My wife and I just had our third child and we wanted a nice family dog. My wife searched classifieds, dog rescues and the internet. Many of the dogs she came across were not recommended for families until she came across Tough Guy online. We arranged a meeting with the shelter. They told us to bring the entire family to come meet Tough Guy. The trainer at the shelter was a retired L.A. County Sheriff K-9 officer. The trainer told us all about Tough Guy’s history. The trainer swore up and down that Tough Guy loved kids and had no food aggression. He had Tough Guy take food from our kids hands and let them play fetch with him. Tough Guy was PERFECT!!!

For the next nine years, Tough Guy was known for roaming from each of our kids rooms and sleeping next to their beds at night. He loved people and he really loved kids. He didn’t like pitbulls too much. He had a heart of a lion. In the end, it was the strongest thing about him that brought him down…his heart. A tumor latched on to his heart and started cutting off his blood flow. The vet did x-rays and said he his perfectly healthy for a twelve year old shepard, but his heart is enlarged. So enlarged, his time was extremely limited no matter what we do. On November 11th, we let Tough Guy move on. His presence is greatly missed.

For nine years though, he gave us everything he could and for that, I am thankful!

You don’t have to assume that because some petty thieves theoretically align themselves to the left, that you need to rethink your position, whine. I don’t cut those jerks any more slack than I would any other criminal, regardless of ideology. And I suspect that these bus abusers are the kind of folks that thought WTO vandalism and theft was pretty cool too. There’s a difference between civil disobedience and criminal behavior. (Not that the Police seem to know how to differentiate that but that’s another thread!)

There’s plenty of folks on BOTH sides who don’t “get it”, and take advantage of the system any way they can. And lets not forget the biggest criminals of all…Wall Street. :-)
