I knew the family (Bobby) way, way back in the 70’s but also moved out of the area and lost most contact with all my school friends. Shame how this happens isn’t it? Good luck to you in finding the family, maybe on FB?

If somebody in your family ends up joining them, tell them they should get back to sending us info on their accomplishments! We haven’t heard from them in a few years. Social media’s nice and all but we reach a lot more people and really enjoy sharing the good news of locals’ achievements. – TR

In my opinion, places where dogs belong: your house, your fenced yard, on a leash outside, camping or hiking. Places where dogs don’t belong: grocery stores, festivals, concerts, playgrounds, city park beaches, off-leash outside, and restaurants, with a few exceptions for places that are designed to be dog friendly. I have a dog, and those are the rules I follow.

And another thing, people who cheat the system and falsely claim their dogs are service dogs are no different from non disabled persons who park in disabled persons parking spots.

LBD is correct that service dogs are easy to spot and their training makes them VERY well behaved. Emotional support animals are needed by some but the “need” for one has been so abused it’s a joke. That said, the rest of the dogs you see in stores are there simply because their owners DON’T CARE. They’re sure they and their dog’s are “special” and are above the law. These are the same people that let their dogs run loose on the beach.

People misunderstand the difference between a Service Dog and an Emotional Support Dog as well as the rights afforded each. A Service Dog is a highly trained dog trained to perform specific tasks to help mitigate a person’s disability—-a condition that is medically diagnosable and meets the definition of disability in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Such a dog has virtually impeccable behavior when working (e.g., no sniffing around, no jumping up on others, no pulling at the leash, no growling at other dogs, no greeting other dogs) and is allowed access to all public places. An Emotional Support Dog is not trained to provide a specific task. Providing companionship and making their owner feel comforted is not a specific task. They can do that by virtue of their presence and relationship, but it is not a trained behavior that mitigates a condition that rises to the level of a formally diagnosable disability. ESAs have certain rights in housing and on airplanes (but the airplane part is so frequently abused that it’s likely to change), but they do NOT have the right to access public places such as stores. While some ESAs have excellent manners and training as companion dogs (good obedience skills and a Canine Good Citizenship certificate, for example) they still are not legally permitted in stores and restaurants. Many people who do bring their dogs into public settings call them Service Dogs when in actuality they are, at best, ESAs because their owners find their presence comforting. If asked they might claim the dog alerts them to something like low blood sugar, a skill that would be very hard to observe as it at most only occurs intermittently, but you can tell just by observing the dog pulling at the leash and sniffing at items on the shelves or floor that in reality it is not a trained Service Dog. A Service Dog would be totally and continuously focused on the handler, or in the case of a person with certain emotional symptoms such as hyper vigilance, scanning the environment for possible dangers, or a hearing dog on alert for unusual or dangerous sounds paying attention to nearby sounds, and then be trained to perform a tangible and observable “alert” behavior to inform the person. Judging by the behavior of most dogs I see in stores it is highly unlikely they are Service Dogs.

I would like to purchase the EGO 21″ Self-propelled mower. The thought of not dealing with oil and gas (storage too) plus the noise is kind of appealing. I am hesitating because the weather here is rain rain rain from late September until May and I see that it is not meant to get wet. The reviews really have been mostly very positive, some have mentioned an issue with tall wet grass.

I have also looked at the Ryobi. I know many people have been returning them because they keep turning off, but that seems to be what it is designed to do. It is a safety and conservation of battery thing. If it doesn’t detect anything to be cut for a period of time, it will shut itself off. With a second battery, the run time increases to about the same as the EGO 7.5. The Ryobi is a bit smaller, but like the EGO the battery can be used on other tools.

Information on how you use this type of lawn mower in your yard and if you feel it was worth the investment would be helpful.

    Thank you.

In 2012 a city employee with the Office of Housing stole and cashed a check for 3.5 million dollars. (Probably on a foreign beach somewhere still laughing) The check was from a developer paying a Incentive Zoning contribution.
Department director, Steve Walker, discovered the theft at a later date. (From the files my conjecture is about spring 2013) He chose not to report it. Instead he turned to Fred Podesta, department director of Finance and Administrative Services. (Currently serving his punishment as director of Human Services) Neither director chose to report it. As the Incentive Zoning program involved the Department of Construction and Inspection, they enlisted the support of the director, Nathan Torgelson. The three directors chose not to report it.
Around the late spring, early summer 2013, Podesta cried foul to the Seattle City Council about rampant violations occurring in the building industry, theft, wage, and the need of additional FTE (full time positions) to help with oversight of the programs. City Council responded with ordinance 124253, passed on 08/07/2013.
The report by Podesta to the council peaked Councilman Mike O`Brian’s interest, and he ordered an audit of the Incentive Zoning program. (Audit of Seattles Incentive Zoning for Affordable Housing, 4/13/2017) (If any of this matters to you, read the audit. It not only adds to the speculation of other departments involvement, it’s like a roadmap for the fraud).
The auditor issued a preliminary draft to Office of Housing and FAS sometime in spring or summer of 2016. The departments were allowed to respond to the auditors findings prior to the final release. The audit draft report included 3 very important facts worthy of notice here. (As well as much more)
    1. 2 IZ participating buildings with payments past due and uncollected (as of 04/2016)
    2. Three instances when an Office of Housing employee deposited the checks (IZ payments) directly at the bank instead of following procedure. (Secondary note by auditor, “the funds ultimately reached the city “)
    3. Auditor noted an apparent discrepancy in the calculations of payments due and that the required amounts are not placed on the MUP (Master Use Permit) or the building permit application. Auditor noted “According to an Office of Housing official, staff requests to address the issue have been put on hold by the Executive and Law Departments “. (I believe that it will never be proven that they knew, but really?)
This audit forced the directors, Walker, Podesta, and Torgelson to devise a plan to account for the stolen funds never reported. This is what they did.

The city council pays bills and payroll by ordinance at council meetings. The money is paid through warrants produced by FAS from city accounts. The following is a public record of payroll amounts by ordnance for September and October of 2016.

Date of Council meeting ORD. Total payroll. Payroll ending date.

    9/6/2016. 125123. 44,440,940.42. 08/23/2016
    9/19/2016. 125137. 43,387,944.79. 09/06/2016
    10/03/2016. 125170. 47,089,493.25. 09/20/2016
    10/17/2016. 125174. 43,266,028.56. 10/04/2016
    10/31/2016. 125177. 43,346,214.99. 10/18/2016

LOOK at the payroll for 10/3 vs. the others. IT IS APPROXIMATELY 3.8 MILLION DOLLARS MORE THAN CURRENT PAYROLLS BEFORE AND AFTER. I`ll explain.

One of the directors opened an account with Bank of America. False employees were then added to the city payroll for that specific payroll period. All false employees were paid through direct deposits, into the Bank of America account. The false employees were then eliminated from the payroll records. (Payroll warrants 390001-402459, direct deposit portion only)

With the proceeds of the fraud, the directors had Bank of America issue a check, payable to the City of Seattle in the amount of the 3,759,546.36, on November 1st, 2016. The check was received by the city on November 4th, 2016, supposedly to pay the missing IZ payment from the developer. (Without seeing them you really would not believe how many records were falsified for this fraud)

    Worthy of note:
    1. Current city action points at Podesta taking the fall.
    2. Many of the conspirators will never be held accountable
    3. No one cares or wants this information as I have sent it to the following entities with no response or interest;
Councilman Mike O`Brien and one staff member
    Mayor Durken staff member
    Seattle Times
    Komo 4
    King 5
    Private attorney

DONE! This feels so goooood to get off my chest. Send it to your neighbors, friends, anyone and all. The entire city has the right to know. There is more, other deceptions, other discovered truths. I`m going to wait and see what happens with this information first. I have no expectations. I have no doubt the city will expload or nothing will happen at all.
I am hoping that they sue me. I would relish a day in court. Most probably this gets shuffled away and they continue to do whatever they want to.

Disclaimer: This posting is if my own, from facts derived from public records, public documents, and personal opinion. No other person or entity is involved.

    Thanks, and good night

Alright forum friends, here’s a mystery for you. We found a dead rat in our chain-link, fenced-in back yard. We blamed the cat, who we take diligent efforts to make sure is an indoor-only cat, but nevertheless he gets out of our patio door occasionally. It was late at night, I thought “ugh you darn cat!” and decided to deal with it in the morning. The cat was inside all night. In the morning the rat, that was definitely dead, was gone! We’ve never seen critters other than our cat in our backyard. We live very close to Longfellow creek. I’m curious, what do you think took the dead rat? Someone else’s cat?

While shopping in the Alaska Junction QFC store today, I noticed 4 pet dogs. I just want to suggest that people consider their neighbors before bringing their pets into the grocery store. Please consider the safety for individuals who do have service animals and may want to shop in this store. Having pets in a store can be a distraction to a service animal and places that owner at risk of being harmed. Pets in a store makes it difficult for individuals to understand the difference between a pet who can be stopped and petted and a therapy dog who cannot without risking harm to their owner. Please also consider our fellow community members who fear dogs and what this does to their sense of safety. Lastly, please consider the harm this may cause individuals with allergies to dogs. The smoke these few weeks have been hard enough and this only adds to the issues of those who are already compromised. While you may prefer to have your pet by your side whenever possible, is it worth harming our community members? I also want to thank the QFC staff for being understanding and kind when I shared my concerns above.

I haven’t seen evidence of the off-leash dog or of campers — at least recently. Neither would completely surprise me, but I’ve walked the Schmitz trails at least every few weeks for many years now. I also have never heard of anyone, male or female, young or old, being accosted there. If anyone has been harassed or discomfited while in Schmitz Park I would like to hear about it. I was ticketed for parking “overtime” in the Safeway parking lot this weekend, the time stamp on the ticket was for a few minutes before the 2 hour mark.

Has anyone else experienced this? I didn’t see any signs warning that you would be ticketed for parking more than 2 hours, and I was doing my errands at multiple businesses in that compound.
