Alright forum friends, here’s a mystery for you. We found a dead rat in our chain-link, fenced-in back yard. We blamed the cat, who we take diligent efforts to make sure is an indoor-only cat, but nevertheless he gets out of our patio door occasionally. It was late at night, I thought “ugh you darn cat!” and decided to deal with it in the morning. The cat was inside all night. In the morning the rat, that was definitely dead, was gone! We’ve never seen critters other than our cat in our backyard. We live very close to Longfellow creek. I’m curious, what do you think took the dead rat? Someone else’s cat?

Or a coyote, or a dog, or even another rat…Like cock-roaches, they will eat their own.

Less for you to have to deal with!!

    Whooo?

But yes, owl, crow, cat, coyote, raccoon, rat… Nature is a waste not, want not world, where very little doesn’t get used.

Ahhh, I like the owl theory. Didn’t think of them because we never see them. Thanks for the clean up, owls.

I vote owl. My sister lives on Whidbey Is. Their security camera caught an owl killing and eating a rabbit.

All sound plausible to me. There are lots of critters that come out only at night or when we’re not around, so we may never see them.
