Is it just me or have our sidewalks been taken over by flowers, bushes and trees? I was pushing a stroller and found it hard to navigate the sidewalks so my kids weren’t smacked in the face by them. And as I am looking down to steer stroller away from overgrowth, I get hit on the head with low hanging branches! It’s easier to walk in the street, which isn’t safe for anyone. I’ve thought about walking around my neighborhood and cutting back growth myself but I simply don’t have time {note aforementioned kids + work}. So, in lieu of that is there anything that can be done to get our sidewalks back?!

Try Alki Mail just a few blocks west on Admiral. Under normal conditions one of the bank branches would be an option. If the information is not sensitive you could ask a neighbor with a printer to make a copy for you. Good luck.

It’s getting that time of the year when I have to use the leaf blower every day…, this is not by choice. It’s because the neighbors will not clean up the fallen leaves from their tree’s. If you didn’t want to do yard work, You should have bought a condo.

Btw, My gas powered yard tools will still be around long after the battery equipment will be tossed into the trash.

If you need some ear plugs, True Value sells them. Bring your debit card.

So glad for electric leaf blowers. If people don’t like them they are welcome to rake my leaves so I don’t suffer due to back/ hip issues. Promise I won’t run past 5pm.

I got a new bike yesterday 9.17 and went for an inaugural ride and managed to lose the keys! Somewhere between Locol on 35th and my home in Admiral district, my keys fell off the bike. They Keys are 3 black keys on a keychain that has a Green Bay Packers logo and a pocketknife from my boy scout troop in Mcfarland WI. If anyone finds them in the street it would be amazing if I could get those back!

Leaf blowers are obnoxious under any circumstances (how did we ever survive without them? /s). But are you saying people are running gasoline-powered leaf blowers when the air quality is very unhealthy? That’s pollution for sure, plus it’s unnecessary.
Many communities across the nation have banned this damn things. The noise is an overbearing nuisance to residents working and studying at home; and people should not have to breathe dust particles created by leaf blowers while trying to stave off Covid-19, a deadly respiratory disease.

Is there anything happening to ban gasoline powered leaf blowers in Seattle, like the ban in California and other places? I live in the Junction and the situation has become intolerable, with every commercial and apartment building and some residences visited everyday with blowers, sometimes multiple blowers, and sometimes several times a day, 12 months of the year. The bank next door to me sometimes has three workers using gasoline blowers at the same time and the noise in deafening. This is pollution!

Does anyone know of a place to take old smoke/carbon monoxide detectors to be recycled? The manufacturer won’t take them back (they would if they were just smoke detectors, though). The city utilities said they don’t recycle them and to just put them in the garbage. They have trace amounts of radioactive Americium 241 as well as all the plastic and electronics, so I’d rather recycle than trash them. I’d be willing to take them somewhere locally or mail them to a recycler, if only I can find one! Any ideas?

Hi Kathleen: I moved in the last month and used New Horizons moving Co located in Burien — I used them after seeing them recommended and highly regarded on a couple of local FB pages. Josh, the owner was very responsive and gave me a very accurate estimate and put the exact right crew on my job for my items and needs. I was very happy with them and would recommend them and use them again. I used a different company 3 years ago I wouldn’t call back. New Horizons, Josh, 206-483-8071. I had a 3 man crew at $140/hr, 2 hr. minimum. They did a local move and also trip to storage.

    Hi all!

I’m soon going to be moving into a new apartment just up the road from me in the Junction. Normally I would just rent a car and do all the hauling myself and with friends, but due to a medical issue I’m not supposed to do a lot of heavy lifting, and my friends have other commitments. Basically I just need a vehicle and 3-4 people to help me (A) move some suitcases and boxes from my old place to the new one and (B) help me unload the rest of my stuff from a shipping pod into the new unit. Part A needs to happen by the 20th; part B could happen later but ideally around the same time.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

    Kathleen

Hi, I am a member of the CTF and I can tell you they are fully vetting the tunnel. It is one of the replacement options being considered in the CBA. They added an extra 250k to the process to ensure it was fully vetted even though it is something that should be looked at during the ‘size, scope, location” discussion that happens after the CBA. They moved it up to calm peoples fears of it being left out and put a quarter million dollars down to back that move. Whoever told you it wasn’t being consider hasn’t been closely following the project.

    Hello West Seattle Community,

I’ve set up this on-line petition to urge Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to seriously consider an immersed tube tunnel (ITT) similar to the system that supports BART and many other underwater thoroughfares worldwide. Per a presentation from local engineers, the ITT solution has numerous benefits including lower cost, faster construction, a good safety record, longevity, and earthquake resilience.

From what I understand, SDOT is focused on repair or replacement of the bridge and may have “tunnel vision” – pun intended! It’s unclear what political and business pressures will influence a decision; we must avoid another lengthy, costly bridge option unless it’s the only solution. Proper evaluation of an ITT requires SDOT to bring in outside experts and think outside of the box. We MUST keep up the pressure on them!

On September 27th, I will submit this petition to our Councilwoman Lisa Herbold who can bring our collective voice to the SDOT bridge replacement task force of which she is a member.

Petition to SDOT – DEADLINE SEPT 26

If you want to learn about the ITT, here is some information from the local engineer who has done much analysis of this option.

Thank you for your interest and support!

A drone flew over our airspace this evening at approximately 7:35 p.m., and after I pointed in the air in its direction and mouthed that they were invading our privacy, it flew lower and hovered over our backyard. This is absolutely an invasion of privacy, and I understand you must have a license to operate this device. If anyone else experiences this, please let us know. I am an attorney and will follow-up with the county prosecutor about this invasion of privacy if I get more information from others experiencing the same. Thank you and stay safe.
